Yes. De Ligt was the contrary, not as pacey and fancy tackles, but better positioning, reading of the game and calmness. He will also be the better CB in the future than Sanchez. He probably is already now

Spurs fans I know seem to be pretty happy with Sanchez mind.

Only on the ball... but even then, he was still incredibly impressive in that game, and considering his age and his potential to improve, it would have made total sense to me.

I mean look at him now, he's no worse on the ball then any of our CB's (though admittedly that's a fairly low bar)

He’s not as good on the ball as Tuanzebe. If Axel can stay fit and get loan games at centre half, he’s one heck of a prospect.

Bailly's had games where he's looked capable of going on to be a very good defender and had actual man of the match performances, I've yet to see that from Lindelof who I often find myself reaching for reasons why he did well in certain matches. Bailly is more highly rated by United fans, and rightly so, because he's had plenty of times where he's looked the part even with his inconsistencies. I also don't think it's fair to say Bailly really escapes criticism either, I've been very critical of his raw/rash nature in his thread before and haven't been alone.
I agree, Bailly has had great matches (defensively, not being so much part of any creative football). However I think his style of football is always a bit risky. Either he plays very well, or he makes costly mistakes. Hopefully he can clean up and improve his judgement.

I'm becoming a broken record on this topic, but I was sad to see both Tunzebe and TFM go out on loan. I fully appreciate the need for them to get time time, but I'd have thought one of them should be a match day squad member this season.

Rojo and Jones are sick notes, while Victor L is turning out to be a very poor signing. Given Bailley's current erratic performances (since his injury) and Smalling being unlikely to improve further, I see both youngsters becoming mainstays if given a chance.

This brings me back to Victor L, a talented defender in a lesser league, but a player who is struggling mentally and physically at this level. His passing abilities (when confident) look very good, but the rest is just average at best.

Begs the question why we went for him when we had 2 great prospects at the club?
Victor L had just a season of games at a decent level in Portugal, so not that far ahead of TFM and Tunzebe in my opinion and not a 'ready made' option.

Feels a mistake, but it's easy to say with the benefit of hindsight. I seem to recall I was excited about signing Victor....but maybe that's because I was annoyed at our sick notes and CBs who had limited ball playing ability!

Let's see where we are come Jan. Might be time for United to cut their losses with him.

Real broken record is people who don't actually read what OP is replying to and go off on a long post and completely have no idea. My post was zip to do with Lindelhof, more a player we should have been interested in. Personally wasn't that impressed with Lindelhof prior to us signing him, saw no outstanding abilities and certainly nothing better than Jones, Smalling, Rojo etc...

I assumed you are talking about Victor as this is a Victor L thread.

Watford 1:2 Man Utd
We look like we're playing with 10 on the pitch with him around.

Almost everyone is covering for him it's ridiculous.

This guy, this guy. Clearly a good footballer, nice and smooth when the physical pressure is low but I can't remember watching a softer CB. No matter how talented you are a CB must be prepared to battle and get hurt in this league to survive. A step up from last season as he at least showed some appetite for it, but he has a long way to go.

Didn't do anything wrong, and the times he did get in a physical altercation with Gray or Deeney, he tended to come out on top. Good game.

He's not good, he's far too passive.
He needs to impose himself more, I don't think we can wait on him to come good, we just don't have the time.

He did make a few decent interceptions but had some VERY nervy moments too. Valencia's death stare at him when he gave the ball away was pretty telling. Hopefully the more he plays the more he gets used to the league.

He was OK. Didn't really notice he was on the pitch- I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

He’s not a centre back. Utter garbage, thank Zlatan for the recommendation.

Hopefully he’s gone in January or the summer.

He's still struggling a bit with the PL but I think he is showing some fight and was solid enough today.

Lindelof is shit. Not surprised some posters are happy with him though. Nothing player.

That tends to be a good thing for defenders. I thought he did alright today.

Don't agree, about the not noticing him comment. Playing not to make mistakes, allowing everyone else to do the real defending. It is passive and puts so much pressure on those around to babysit him.

Again didn’t put a foot wrong and the partnership with Smalling works.

Its a bad thing when you're letting others do your job.

These posts pretty much sum it up when it comes to praise for Lindelof on this forum. 'He didn't put a foot wrong, good game'. 'Didn't notice him, good game'. You cats are too kind.

Ditto (as in, don't agree with you either). I don't even know what the bolded bit means. He defended. Little threat came down his side but when it did he defended well and covered for Young when the latter went forward.

Pretty this much sums up the general thought process of those forum. It's either praise or scathing hatred. There's absolutely no in between. He had a decent game. He wasn't phenomenal, but wasn't poor by any means. I'm happy with that from a defender.

Haha feck sake give him a break. He reads the game so well. To blame him for watfords goal is just insane. Had a great game

Our weakest link, luckily Smalling and Fellaini were up for it today. After around 55 minutes he played the ball to Watford two times while not pressured at all and made the weakest tackle I've ever seen, at that point I thought he was going to have a meltdown. Luckily he recovered from it and at least showed some composure for the remaining 30 minutes.

It was a bit better, I'd have liked to have seen him put his body forward for their goal though, he was in a decent position to get in the way.

This thread would make you think Lindelof played normal games and didn't put a wrong foot in is not good enough for Redcafe's view and classed as poor and demanding world-class performance from him week in week out, 100% tackle, 100% air battle, many tackle and score like Smalling.

He's more of a passenger than anything else. I wouldn't even call his performance decent because his partner and Fellaini did most of the actual defending. Lindelof could at least contribute more in areas where he's supposedly strong, like playing out of the back and passing between the lines, but he's failed to demonstrate he's even capable of doing that. He was partly to blame for Watford's goal because he was in no man's land and tracking a player who Young was marking. If this is decent for you then so be it.

He excels at nothing really. Don't know why Mourinho plays him. With Bailly I can at least see the potential.

This place. The lads done very little wrong in the last two games and people seem to want to take a negative forensic look at his game. Thought people said he'd have a nightmare today and would be bullied? Didn't see that today. Teams score goals but we can't put that down to just his mistake every fecking game.

It's not good enough imo to have your best performance always being "didn't make mistakes today".

Didn't do much defending. Sure OK. Utter bullshit but whatever.

This. He's great at hide and seek until he gets exposed and actually needs to prove his worth. Coward of a defender

Utter bullshit that you think he had a decent or good game. This is not what United need. Hopefully Bailly gets his shit together sharpish.
