Vardy/Kane to replace Rooney in the summer?

Vardy - seriously... the new Michael Rickets
20 goals in 63 championship games
and even with his 10 in 10 games this season his pl return is 15 in 44 games
Fair play to him having bloomed so late into his career and on current form he probably deserves a place in the England squad but Im sure any links to us (and I have seen Real Madrid mentioned) are all his agent hoping for one big deal

City spent 30m on bony. All the top teams are spending that kind of money on a non-automatic starter.
Getting an England international from Daniel Levy with 4 years left on his contract for 30 mil? No chance..seeing what we have paid for Martial..that cnut Levy will demand something above 60 mil..Kane isnt worth that, we can get Griezmann for less than that.

We really should go for Kane.

Rooney is absolutely done. He still is the only "star" player we have but Martial is quickly building a reputation.

United need stars for our profile. Kane can become this player for many years.

I think around £60m would be a reasonable fee to stretch to to get him. You have to bear in mind that if he realises his potentially that fee is absolute pennies over the coming years.

Kane and Griezmann are musts this summer. Perfect age profiles too.

God no, thats almost 90 mil Euros..you should be getting top 20 in the world kind of players for that amount..Kane is nowhere near...and Woodward has said that our rate of spending will slow down..so Id rather we spent our cash wisely.

We should aiming higher than Andrew Johnson and Alan Smith, get a grip FFS. Okay, Kane is quite good but not worth £50m in a million years.

We need a world class forward not an overhyped english flavor of the month.

Vardy will be playing in the Championship for a club like Sheffield Wednesday in 2 or 3 years and we'll all be saying "remember that guy that thought we should replace Rooney with him?"
Amr Zaki

You no longer think Kane is a £100m player? Soon you will be putting him at £30m which is his realistic value.

It's baffling that people would be willing to pay £60m for Harry Kane based on one good season.

As for the idea of signing Vardy, I have no words.

Kane's got more upside than Vardy. I like Kane. Wouldnt mind him here for the right price. Vardy has got James Beattie written all over him, though.

Vardy will be the next Kane (who was the next INSERT PLAYER that had a great season and not so great/average follow up season). If a player can maintain that type of form for 2-3 season, then it's worth considering.
what a bullshit, Kane's 22, he had a monster of a season last season and he doesn't play bad despite low scoring record, he's in a shit team..
And if you look at the goal return itself, he's on 4 and with Erricksen coming back and Tottenham hitting the form he can easily get back into top and try to win the golden boot as Aguero will be always injured and Vardy will stop scoring at some point.

Vardy's good player but he's 28, you expect from experienced player like him to have a season like this once upon his career, while Kane had a brutal season at his 21 years of age, say full debut season.. How can people compare them is beyond me.

If Kane's available for good money we should definately go for him. Martial can play from the wing as well as no9, Kane's best as no9 ut he showed he can be a good no10 too. It's good to have a good competition in the team and different strikers as well. Martial's 19 and dip in form will come let alone some injury. We need another great striker to lead the line..

We should martial at 9 theres no need to sign another striker that kid has immense talent and will go far when played at striker.

We should sign griezmann to play wing and hope that memephis can get his act together

We play mata/herrera at 10

We put rooney in a suitcase and send him to america some MLS team will pick him up.

9- Martial
7- Depay 11- Griezman
10- Mata/herrera

That's what I want to see next season but I'm certain rooney will still be hanging around like a bad smell.

I don't rate Kane at the moment, despite his hat-trick against Bournemouth.

Thought he was shocking against Liverpool and it just added to my hesitation. Surely there's better out there?

...And no, not Vardy. God bless him, he's having a stormer at the moment but he's not top quality.

Vardy is having a purple patch, but long term isn't good enough for United. Kane might have been worth a punt, but he has signed away his future to Levy for some years, and at this moment seems too big of a risk for the over-inflated transfer fee it would take to acquire his services.

Kind of a moot point but it will be quite difficult to get rid of Rooney, on current form and wages. If Woody pulls this out he should get a statue near Old Trafford.

Vardy would be a bit of a risk. He's been excellent this season, but he could quite easily just be on a good run of form at the moment. Certainly not done enough to warrant a move for him yet.

I'd be happy with the prospect of signing Kane, but the problem will be getting him for a fee that isn't astronomical.

Vardy's punching above his weight. Good luck to him but, as you say, he's not top drawer. We won't get Kane unless we stump up a huge fee but considering we weren't deterred by Martial's asking price, Woody would do business if Levy gave him some encouragement.

short of agreeing to pay his contract up and let him go on a free - or sending him on loan and paying 75% of his contract I don't think anybody will be rushing to take him off our hands.
Hopefully he finds some form soon because as you say on thise wages he is probably not going anywhere in a hurry

Newcastle always like themselves a geezer big name striker. Whether Rooney wants to go there is an entirely different matter. If he agrees to a pay cut, he could just as well return to Everton.

Otherwise you have the usual Italian clubs who love themselves a loan to buy offer.

Surely we should be looking at signing the next Jamie Vardy instead................

I can't believe there's people who want to sign Vardy.

I mean seriously.
I can. It's always the same whenever a striker for whatever team hits a hot streak there is always some cock womble who wants to sign them. It's happened countless times down the years. I remember someone wanted to sign Agbonlahor years ago.

He [Vardy] has 10 in 10 this year and Rooney has 6 in 14.

Where are you getting 6 in 14? I assume you are trying to bring the Brugge game into that stat and calling it a CL game?
Lets compare apples to apples, so lets talk about league goals.
Vardy has 10. Rooney has 2.
Those are the numbers which are directly comparable, though I believe Rooney did play 1 game less.

With regards to Vardy - he was fantastic against us last year @ Leicester. And is currently in the form of his life right.
The opposition cannot contain his grit and determination (something we don't currently have at MUFC - Rooney used to have this quality).

IMO, if we play Young on the left, Herrera in No.10, Mata on the right, Martial up-front - this should yield great results.
No need to buy Vardy or Kane, this season - we already have the players to do serious damage.

Surely we should be looking at signing the next Jamie Vardy instead................

Has anyone in this thread at all actually said they want vardy?

Not only will Utd not be after him but none of the big clubs (even Liverpool) will go after vardy

Newcastle and Villa might be tempted in January though

It was a CL game, qualifier or not, it still counts.

We are comparing a player that has 10+ league goals each season since 04/05 and started this season poorly and is 30 with a 28 year old that's only now having a good season. Nothing against the bloke and credit to him for making it through the leagues and getting to represent his country, but to me it's just mental.

It's Rickie Lambert all over again.

Bruge had about 5/6 first teamers injured..Vardy is doing it in the best league in the world(TM). There is obviously a huge difference here, and Vardy has scored his in 7 consecutive games, not in one game.

We shouldnt be signing James Vardy though.

The only Leicester player who could possibly do a good job for United is Mahrez.

Martial should replace Rooney. We should be looking at strengthening on the wings.

Martial
Young/Memphis - Herrera/Mata - New RW
