VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

Officials aren't fit for purpose, blatant penalty not given as the pull on the arm was "fleeting". Feckin nonsense!

It's probably a foul, I think the ref saw it and decided not enough for a pen and would have to be a red as well.

It’s no longer a sport, it’s an entertainment. WWEPL

I had the phrase not fit for purpose in my head...click into the last page and see this. It's utter insanity, they're such a poorly run organisation for such a high stake environment.

Not a real surprise is it? Some absolutely terrible decisions already this season, this one and the Newcastle Bournemouth game decisions probably the picks of the bunch.

The official explanation was that it wasn't a penalty because he didn't hold his arm long enough. What?!!!

A hopeless waste of time having VAR run by moronic idiots.
So stupid! He didn’t hold it longer because the damage was done and he saw his mate had caught up with him.

He grabbed him outside the box and continued to hold his arm for three of four strides as he entered the box. The attacker would have had a shot or released the ball around the time he went down. How is that not long enough?

Refs and VAR are really ruining football for me. The inconsistency is unreal! One week a penalty is given for the lightest touch, next week, the same thing gets ignored. VAR was supposed to fix this, but it’s only made things worse. Half the time they don’t even bother checking it properly, and when they do, it takes forever for a decision that still doesn’t make sense.

Honestly, it’s killing the flow of the game and just making things more frustrating for fans. Something needs to change, or football's going downhill fast.

Also it’s not just about winning or losing a match – it’s about the integrity of the game. When the players and fans don’t know what the rules are anymore, how can anyone enjoy watching? Feels like it’s killing the excitement of the game.

I don’t know the rules - but I assumed they didn’t give it as the grab started outside the box, so they couldn’t do anything. When the commentators said otherwise I couldn’t believe it

If the foul starts outside and continues into the box, which this did, they can give a pen.

Yep, which makes it worse when Forfana did the same to Somerville not long later, twice, but held him much shorter - and gave the foul

Vicario was a straight red. What on earth was the 4th official doing? Should be sacked for incompetence.

They’ll probably say VAR couldn’t review because it wasn’t denial of a goal scoring opportunity as enough Spurs players were behind the ball.

But that’s obviously stupid because if he doesn’t handle his momentum takes him forward and the ball just falls at a Brentford player’s feet with the chance to shoot at a goal with no keeper. Only in the moronic fever dreams of PGMOL is shooting at an empty net not a goal scoring opportunity because a few outfield players are also in the box.

Where's the card for Matata kicking away the ball long after the whistle? Bruno was booked last week for kicking it before the whistle.

Exactly. Absolutely ridiculous. To think, these chaps are paid god money to be this incompetent.

I propose they have 100 video referees sitting in a room and they get to vote yes / no on a decision whether it's a foul or not.

If you make the wrong decision you're thrown out.

If you make the correct decision you move to the next decision.

Within a couple of weekends there should be enough good video referees making the right decisions.

Or just do everyone a favour and put VAR in the bin. No fan likes it or wants it.

Martinez jumps up with both feet to stamp on whatever ends up beneath him: yellow card.

He was very lucky he didn't make more contact with the player.
It's crazy behavior, he lands barely an inch away from the Palace player's foot. Milliseconds away from gathering his shattered toes

Is it crazy to say it’s almost akin to throwing a punch or a kick at someone? You get red cards for that regardless of whether you connect or not. Crazy stuff from Martinez.

D

Didn’t touch anyone. Should not even be yellow.
You dont have to touch someone to get red carded you can throw a punch...miss and still get red carded. i think he is a lucky one, because he didnt make contact. He could have generated a serious injury and he would have been off maybe for more than 3 had he made contact. I dont know how he explains his actions there.

And then he has the nerve to question the yellow.
