VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

True, but they aren’t on film saying those things about teams so at least we can try to believe that the mistakes they make are honest.

He doesn’t need to be fired for me either by the way. He can have midtable or relegation games with no impact on Liverpool or our direct competitors, do games in the Championship, … But I think you can understand most fans wouldn’t want him near any of our games anymore? I just saw on Twitter that he was the guy missing the Rodri and Odegaard handballs as well - a lot easier to forgive him for that if such videos are not all over the internet then.
Some of them just work and get paid by club owners.

Coote is the one that called a penalty for West Ham in the 90th minute against us that PGMOL called a mistake. I know it was a tag team play by him and Oliver but ultimately his decision.

Wouldn't you rather just have neither? 'Something stupid happened here, but since something stupid also happened somewhere else under different circumstances and had no consequences, let's do nothing now either' always seems like such a poor argument. Especially since it leads to a world without consequences, cause next time the latter happens again, another person will say the same thing, inverted.

Anyway, the ref had lost his semblance of impartiality. Sacking seems a little much if there have been no performance issues, but for public perception, a strongly worded apology followed by a break in refereeing while he takes some sort of bias course would seem like a minimum response.
A Liverpool fan above said he missed that Rodri handball and the Odegaard dribble. Think that'll come under "performance issues".

Of course I would … wasn’t being serious, just making a (flippant) point that insulting someone may not be the worse/only reason to suspend a ref.

And I’ve got no issue if sacked.

Its unreasonable to expect refs not to have personal opinions. Like thinking Klopp is a cnut if perfectly fair. Just don't let yourself be filmed saying it. Probably gonna get the boot and give countless ammunition to ref conspiracy theorists. As it there wasn't already enough out there.

Also, unless you told me that was David Coote, I would have no idea who it was. All refs looks alike to me. Just one homogenous glob.

Doing it on camera’s a bit silly, but don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling Klopp what he is.

Also, bloke recording was the one that added the “we hate scousers” spice. The lad will lose his job, but I don’t think he did anything egregious

Everyone has bad decisions against them. This isn’t equivalent in any way shape or form. It’s undermining of the individual’s integrity and neutrality and it compromises the organisation he works for.

This isn’t missing an offside, getting VAR wrong or giving a soft penalty.

Kind of too obvious to make this point, no?

If I was manager I would rather be called things and not been on wrong side of decisions as we have. Last year we lost great amount of points because of some really bad decisions. Same kind decisions that went other way in other games. We had everything from missed handballs, ghost penalties to red cards that was never given before or after. This year we are still getting some ridiculous decisions against us. I haven't seen Arsenal, ManCIty or Liverpool getting same amount against them.

You don't think referees talked bad about Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger and so on? You can google it.

He was also guy who somehow didn't give Aston Villa penalty last game. Against you. You never lost a Premier League game he was referee in, if I'm correct.

We can't be having refs disliking managers, but it's alright to have refs receiving first class treatment, high paid gigs in countries by ruling owners that own clubs in England. Oh no, the latter is definitely not an influential act.

Can't believe he's claiming it's fake

It would be the most realistic AI I've ever seen by a long, long distance. I would think even with the current rate of progression that this type of shit is years away or nigh on impossible. And you think if someone had the power to do this they'd implicate David Coote of all people?

I thought he said "Jurgen Cnut" but on second listen it does appear he says "German Cnut" which is going to screw him.

If he hadn't said that bit, he could've requested a hearing and brought every 4th official who has ever been on the sideline with Klopp to provide evidence on his behalf.

Do appreciate the hail mary from him though.

When I first saw it on twitter I assumed it was fake mainly on the basis that nobody would be this stupid to video a conversation like this but I've looked at it full screen on a desktop computer and it's very clearly real.

Yeah, that's not the problematic part at all.
It’s pretty much the only thing he said, apart from in the second video where he said don’t send the video anywhere. Unless you’re talking about the bit where the other person said he hates Liverpool, which wasn’t something he admitted to.

He's probably been blackmailed by the scouse to help them win and feck us over lest this video be released.

Ah sorry fellas; somehow it totally slipped my mind that that second Herrera yellow was for team foul accumulation; thought it was on him personally but my memory is shit. My apologies.
Unfortunately for United fans, the many shit games and years of Michael Oliver are seared into our collective memory.

Still not my point.

All sides can clock up the bad decisions. A serving ref calling a serving manager a German c*** isn’t the same regardless of how it’s spun.

Well the league's definitely over now, the refs and VAR will be giving the dippers EVERY decision for the rest of the season.
Agreed. I think the only fair thing to do, since they can't be unbiased towards Pool at this point, is remove Liverpool from the league completely for the remainder of the season. It's the only possible outcome to avoid any more reputatational damage. Anything else and the otherwise completely untarnished and 100% not fecked at all by City image of the EPL would be in tatters.

Yeah you just don’t get the point as usual.

Even when it’s blatantly true? He is a cnut, and he is German. So calling ETH a bald Dutch guy is also, by definition true. If he, for instance had made a video calling Suarez a Brazilian cannibal that would obviously be wrong as he is from Uruguay.

Proof IMO that Klopp is in the ref’s heads and they’re scared to upset Liverpool. Shock.
Of course he was in their heads, just like SAF was back in the day, if social media had been around in those days like it is now you can guarantee there would be a video like this around calling him a Scottish cnut!

Suspended for saying something that is absolutely 100% the truth? The worlds gone mad.

Debbie Hewitt who is the Chairwoman of the FA is a Liverpool supporter. Not surprising at all. Probably was on the phone the moment she saw it telling PMGOL to suspend and investigate him.

That's the beauty of AI. Tricking you when you least expect it. Everyone is ready to fight the corner of Trump, Taylor Swift or Messi if there are disparaging images of them but no one is going to believe a lesser known PL ref when he claims an unprofessional video of him is AI generated.

I mean has he actually said anything that insinuates any kind of bias at all?

Just that he doesn't like Klopp because he acted like a cnut, which, you know, is an entirely reasonable thought process considering that Klopp consistently acted like a cnut to the officials.

How is this a suspension but there is no issue with Mike Dean exposing the fact they sometimes get decisions wrong on purpose because they just don't want their jobs to be difficult? Or its ok for Michael Oliver to literally be paid money by the owners of the team that keeps winning the league and is under investigation for cheating over 100 times?

The premier league has to be the worst managed and officiated brand of any professional sport in the world.
