Van Der Vaart On The Move

Wow, there we go then. 8 million is an absolute steal, Scholesy must be jizzing all over the place. Modric and VDV in the same line up?

i expect him to fully prove you wrong like Sneijder did. After all alsts eoans he was a fixture in the Real Mardid XI that broke all sorts of club records last season.

Erm...

On Van Der Vaart, I was exaggerating for effect. He might well do very well for them, he was very impressive for Madrid last season when he was given games in general, in a variety of roles, and I do think he's a very decent player. There's just no room for him at any of the top clubs, there's always someone better(or better suited). I was genuinely impressed by his selflessness in sacrificing his own natural game to suit the other players in the team and his workrate though, two things I thought he was lacking in in his first season there and I didn't think he had the mentality to stick it out and fight for his place with the galacticos, but he fought well.

I just don't see him thriving at Spurs the way I could at some of the other clubs in the tier below, I don't really see the need for him. That brings us back to my original point about being short-sighted, and you'd imagine VDV had some assurances of first team football at Spurs otherwise he'd have little reason to come, so as BL said it's probably best to wait. I've no doubt he'll add quality to their squad, but I can't quite see where he fits in right now. We'll see.

I was just using him to make a more general point about the 'value' brigade issue.

I did time and time again.

You said he was world class time and again? You said he an Arteta were on about the same level before he left Madrid...

Pretty useful squad at the Lane.

Gomes, Cudicini, Pletikosa
Corluka, Gallas, Dawson, King, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Walker, Naughton, Hutton
Palacios, Huddlestone, Modric, Jenas, Bale, Van der Vaart, Lennon, Bentley, Kranjcar, Giovani, O'Hara, Sandro, Rose
Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Crouch, Keane

--------------Gomes--------------
Corluka----King----Gallas--A-Ekotto
Lennon--Palacios--Modric----Bale
----------Van der Vaart------------
------------Striker-----------------

My bad.

Don't mind watching Spurs games now to see how they accomodate both VdV and Modric in the same team.

Where do you think he'll play? In a midfield 3, he'd start all day and in a midfield 2 he'd easily be pushing on for a start. It's retarded to think that he'd be nowhere near our starting eleven.

Has he ever played in a midfield two for any team? From what I gather whenever his team played a 4 man midfield he was moved out to either wing, usually the left. I'm not sure he has the discipline on or off the ball for such a role.

Presumably the idea will be to play him in a midfield three with two others from Modric, Palacios and Huddlestone, with Bale and Lennon on the flanks.

However, that throws up an interesting problem in that Redknapp likes Defoe, but he isn't effective as a lone striker.

Bale, Lennon, GDS.
Modric, VDV.
Palacios, Huddlestone.

Give me a group of 7 from any other club who are better.

Nani, Valencia, Park.
Scholes, Giggs.
Fletcher, Carrick.

With about thirty up-and-coming stars raring to prove themselves.

Give me that every day of the week, and twice on Sunday, please.

Why am I even bothering with Scholesy?

Who's GDS? And what are they gonna do with Kranjcar and Bentley?

The Spurs midfield looks good on paper, but on the pitch, United and Chelsea will put one over them.

United have much better strikers, Chelsea have Drogba. And also both have stronger defences and goalkeepers than Spurs.

Spurs win the midfield battle. It is a quality balance of everything.

Yeap..I think the Russian fella is actually best suited to play that role but is an inferior player to Defoe and Crouch.

I don't know why people are laughing at Scholsey. It's not that wild a claim. They now have a very very good midfield and 3 or 4 of them would challenge for a spot with us.

Not a single player in that Spurs midfield would get into ours i reckon when everyone is fit, the first team i mean. Not even Modric. Bale's primarily a left-back so he doesn't count.

he's no more than a decent player, it shall be proved at Spurs

He's better than decent Boss. If he can stay fit and Harry plays something other than 442 for a change I think he'll do really well for them.

Of course it counts seeing as he's been tearing the league up at left wing all year.

Modric, Bale and VDV would all be in with a chance of getting into our team.

The bias on here can be mental.

8M is all he cost them. Damn! They only spent 1M more than we did on Bebe and I would who I would rather have.

Bale, Lennon, GDS.
Modric, VDV.
Palacios, Huddlestone.

You forgot Sandro, Brazilian U-21 captain, now called up into their senior squad and fresh from having just helped his old team to win the most prestigious club competition in South American football - the Copa Libertadores.

What the hell is a bian?

Nah it's not biasness at all. For me with the exception of Bale, none of them would get into the quartet of Nani-Fletch-Scholes-Valencia

But as yet is still hugely unproven.

Wasn't Lucas also the U21 captain and get voted young player of the year or summat?

Of course none would walk into the team, but I never said that. I said 3 or 4 would challenge for a starting spot. Which they would.

Would they play that formation in a game.

They have a strong midfield but put any four of them up against Fletcher Scholes Nani and Valencia and I'm sure you'd have a good argument against

Very good signing for Spurs if they pull it off, though not sure where he will play. From looking at their squad they are stacked in attacking options, which is going to result in a few sad faces.

Suspect they'll line up as:
------------Sandro-------------
Lennon--------------------Bale
---------Modric------VDV------
--------------striker?-------------

They really should have sold two of their forwards and got someone of genuine quality, Fabiano? probably.

Come on, where are the likes of Huddlestone and Palacios ? Sandro is still an unknown so to put him in that starting line-up is premature

We are having a laugh because of the claim that it is the best midfield in the league. It's not.

There are a couple players in there that might challenge for a spot but, not even one of them is a guaranteed starter over either Chelsea or United's midfield.

Fletcher, Mikel > Palacios
Scholes, Lampard > Modric
Giggs, Nani, Malouda = Bale
Carrick, Essien, > Huddleston
Valencia > Lennon

VDV and Ramires are an unknown in the legaue -

Modric might get a look-in with our current CM but, probably not at Chelsea.
Bale is the only one par with either United or Chelsea's left wing options

The rest of the Spurs midfield are good but, the claim that they are now the best ... only in thatguy's mind

In mentioning the move from bottom of the league to CL, I was merely responding to peterstorey's post and its attempt to disguise his obvious displeasure that Spurs appear to have bagged VdV.
I'm not bothered about you getting VdV he's the same level as Modric or Krancjar, decent player not top class, and I don't know why you need three of them.

You forgot Sandro, Brazilian U-21 captain, now called up into their senior squad and fresh from having just helped his old team to win the most prestigious club competition in South American football - the Copa Libertadores.

Bale and Lennon on the wings, with a back up in Bentley. Then Modric, Palacios and Huddlestone in the middle with Kranjcar as a backup. That is to me very good. However, VDV belongs to that category of players you already have, ie very good players who are still a bit short off worldclass level. You should have spent the money on a worldclass defender cos midfield is the least of your concern surely.
