fecks sake Perry...just wave a flag and say "Let's win this for the Gipper".

He's got to be finished after this.

I've said all along, it's going to be Romney. It can't be anyone else. And Romney won't beat Obama, regardless of the economy. Imagine what a well-funded presidential PR campaign can do to Romney's.. shall we say, varied stances.

Yeah, thought so too. A lot more confrontation than in the previous debates. It's only going to intensify, I reckon. Particularly as the obvious no-chancers drop off in due time. In the end you're going to have Perry, Romney and Paul going at it. Paul won't hold back, that's for sure. Perry won't either, but that's just because he's too stupid to realize he's going to lose. Romney.. I don't care. It's Romn- zzzZZzz

Why, exactly, is the idea of the Federal government doing something so very, very different from the idea of State government doing something? Some of these people treat anything the federal government does as overreaching, but would be happy to see states do the same thing on their own.

Why doesn't that go any further? Like.. counties? Why so arbitrarily opposed at the federal level? Hell, some states have populations the size of decent sized countries.

Is it their all-powerful 18th century constitution?

1. It costs more money to buy influence in the Federal Government. The services in states, like environmental protection agencies, etc, are more poorly funded and more in tune with corporate desires in localities. That way West Virginia can eliminate all safety regulations, environmental regulations, etc. The same could happen in other states. The GOP passed a bill trying to castrate the EPA from setting the standards for water and pollution. So if Minnesota doesn't care about it's nuclear waste since it's in the Mississippi near the border, they could just eliminate any regulations since it doesn't matter to them. Then the companies could just dump it into the river and Missouri, Illinois, etc have to deal with the after effects.

2. State government in general gets less oversight by constituents. Most people in NC couldn't pick out their representative from a group, by picture or by name. It's the same in most places. Becoming informed is almost much more difficult and time-consuming. There aren't flyers or commercials to the same extent(thought now with Citizens United it's definitely increasing) or other readily accessible forums to evaluate candidates.

Devolving power to the states is trying to reverse the Constitution and go to something closer to the AoC. The Federal government is the best equipped in terms of manpower(and quality of manpower), funds, experience, and know-how to enact most regulations and provide governance. Putting it into the states means that everything is more readily controllable by political parties. It also means that they don't have to pay for anyone else's stuff. God forbid.

There were bills in the NC legislature that tried to require all state organizations to use bottled water made in the state from recyclable material. It just so happens that the former Pro Tem in the Senate was good friends with the only guy whose company made such products in the state. It was a democrat doing this, but it's evidence of how crappy state government is. They spend half the time voting on bills allowing golf carts/atvs to drive on roads in bumble-feck nowhere or congratulating the teams that won such and such in sports or different people who were nice.

Question - So should any of the Wall Street Execs go to jail?

Bachman - It's all the federal government's fault. ALL THEIR FAULT.

Gingrich - It's the media's fault for making business leaders look bad.

You forgot....Democrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd should go to jail.

I like how this election shapes up for 2016. Romney gets nominated because all the Tea Party saviors are morons, Romney loses to Obama, then in 2016 the frothing right convince themselves that the reason Romney lost is the same reason McCain lost, they weren't "real conservatives", and try to nominate another bunch of right-wing eejits the rest of the country won't be able to stand.

The more I see Romney, the more I feel he's a bit like a white, slightly more polished version of Obama. No particular beliefs of his own, good public speaker, reasonably good looking with nothing you can particularly hold against him.

Which is why i'm not particularly bothered which of them actually wins the next election. Neither will do anything much and give way at the slightest hint of serious oppostion. There might be a slight movement to the right but I don't think thats necessarily a very bad thing for either the US or the world economy provided there are signs of the end of the recession by then.

But then I suppose most politicians are exactly the same. There's no real difference between Blair and Cameron for instance.

Slight movement to the right? You're kidding yourself. Are you one of those "they're all the same" people? It annoys me greatly when people say that, or a variation on it.

And how is Romney a more polished version of Obama? He has no charisma at all, while Obama might be the best orator in the White House in decades. You're right about "no particular beliefs of his own", though. Which is why he would be a disaster in the white house. All he cares about is wealth and power. He would have no qualms about being lobbied by big corporations.

It's all a moot point, though; he's never going to win. He's simply not a good enough politician, and his earlier opinions and actions will come back to haunt him.

The funny thing about if Romney gets the nomination is that it will mean that the whole Tea Party movement was a load of bollocks. They were just a small group with no real say in things. Romney is as far from being a Tea Party candidate as Obama would be.

If Romney got in to the White House it wouldn't be great, but I think he'd be closer to the centre than any other repub (except maybe Huntsman) and the dems could work with him on some things.

That being said, I hope to god the dumb fecks select Cain. He'd be torn to shreds by Obama. At least Romney is a capable debater..Cain is a joke.

He worked in Godfather Pizza's baking department?

Have you seen that clip where Cain talks about Uzbekistan? He knows his pizza and he knows a bit about economics, but he'd be a fecking disaster when it came to foreign relations and diplomacy.

To be fair, none of the candidates are focusing on foreign policy as well. All the furor over the economy and domestic issues have pushed foreign affairs to the background.

Don't foget how everybody laughed at Bush when he called the Greeks 'Grecians' during the first campaign....strange shit goes down in US politics.

There are also lots of voters like this:

Rick Perry's wife...derp. She claims Perry is criticized because of his faith. Perhaps he shouldn't use his religion to get votes, which seems pretty blasphemous to me.

Typical xians whining about being persecuted because of faith while ignoring that they basically can do whatever the feck they want in this country.

What's this 9-9-9 stuff?

It's Cain's tax plan. Drop both personal and corporate income tax to flat 9% rates, then have a 9% national sales tax. It's called 9-9-9 because, "feck poor people. I want more yacht money" isn't as catchy.

Herman Cain 999 Plan: Did It Come From SimCity?
In Herman Cain's America, the tax code would be very, very simple: The corporate income tax rate would be 9 percent, the personal income tax rate would be 9 percent and the national sales tax rate would be 9 percent.

But there's already a 999 plan out there, in a land called SimCity.

Long before Cain was running for president and getting attention for his 999 plan, the residents of SimCity 4 -- which was released in 2003 -- were living under a system where the default tax rate was 9 percent for commercial taxes, 9 percent for industrial taxes and 9 percent for residential taxes. (That is, of course, if you didn't use the cheat codes to get unlimited money and avoid taxes altogether.)

Herman Cain 999 Plan: Did It Come From SimCity?

hahahah

I dont see Romney getting the nomination. It will be Perry, because both Bachmann and Cain's backers now will go to Perry. Romney is not McCain who though not a conservative was a war hero. Romney is a mormon. That is his real problem.

He could at least make it the 10-10-10 plan so its easy to work your taxes out.
