Has there ever been a tie and how is it decided?
Also has what happens if a candidate gets seriously ill just before the election and has to withdraw? Has this ever happened (not wishing to hex Romney of course:lol:).

It's decided by Congress I think. Not sure how the difference between the Senate and the House is worked.

That would explain Frosty's earlier post which had confused me (since I'm guessing Romney would walk the House vote). Romney/Biden

Can someone explain to me, what exactly does it mean when people say that Bush put the wars on the "credit card"?

And why do I keep hearing that Obama "put the wars on the books"? The wars weren't part of the Bush deficit/debt?

I don't think they included them as part of the defence budget, at least in future projections.

Biden looks so awesome. I can guarantee you Obama would get in right now with a cleansweap if he had Biden looking like that. Get him out tomorrow with jet black hair and you watch what happens.

Ryan looks like how he probably felt after the debate.

In the reality of any sensible person (i.e. not Republicans) they were, but by funding them via Emergency spending measures, the Bush Administration claimed the deficit/debt during their time was much lower than it was.

Ryan there reminds me quite a bit of Mr Burns. Even got the hunch.

Rasmussen saying
+2 Romney in Virginia
+4 in Florida

ARG saying
+4 in NH
+3 in Florida

Can we say that Romney is probably ahead in Florida?

The feeling I get living down here is Romeny's stock is up a hell of a lot.

On the national polls from the last few days on RCP Romeny is up in all bar two, with one of the others being a tie.

They have also adjusted their electroal collage predictions. Now there are 156 votes considered toss up, which is a huge increase.

Yup. Obama needs a good performance on Tuesday otherwise I'll be shit scared. That said, those are typically polls that favour the GOP, but I still agree he's probably up in Florida right now. Specially with that +7 the other day.

Party time for you two :drool:

My gut feeling is Florida has gone already baring a massive turnaround in the debates. Romney has already shown he can hold his own so I expect the next debates to be close. Obama needs to hold onto Virginia or Ohio and he should be OK.

Based on what i am seeing and hearing on TV and in the office etc Romney's stock is way up. He has gone from someone no one really wanted to vote for to a viable alternative for many.

The last few polls show healthy leads. The general view around here is Ryan won last nights debates. Bidens smirking and laughing didn't seem to go down well.

Part of me wants Romney to win. It would be fun watching the US implode, especially whilst knowing why.

Biden is being criticised all over for interrupting Ryan (which I don't think he even did that often), yet Romney interrupting the Moderator and spoke over Obama far more in the first debate and it hardly got a sniff; why such bias in the reporting?

The side that moans about the moderator is usually the one that lost.

It will make little difference who wins to most people. The very poor might do better under Obama while the very rich will do OK under Romney. The other 85-90% in the middle wont see much change really.

Most of the other stuff like foreign policy is only rhetoric for the campaigns. If Iran continues to develop their nuclear program the US will intervene no matter who lives in the White House.

Keep telling yourself that.

And the period between 2000 and 2008 would've been exactly the same had Al Gore been in the White House.

If Romney wins I really hope China will crush the US every time it can, which will be easy under a Romney admin, with Romney it will take China half the time so surpass the US as the world's leading superpower.

In all fairness the west in general is taking less of the global economic cake, and that will not change no matter who is in the White House. Some of the bad stuff that occurred in those years was out of GW hands, and believe me I am by no means a supporter. The 911 attacks needed some sort of response, and lax lending practices were a result of democratic legislation.

As for China, they have their own problems sustaining growth long term. Birth rate issues, and the westernization of their people will take a serious toll in the next two decades. If they ever make super power status, which I doubt they will, it will not be in our life time.

Wouldn't be fun for my family and friends over there, particularly the women.

Bang on.

Things are getting a little scary now. Losing Florida wouldn't be the end of the world at all, they'd have been planning most of their strategy around the assumption they'd lose it anyway. But the narrative is sort of changing from "Romney must win Florida or it's all over", the pressure being on him, to "Obama must win Ohio". There's an awful lot riding on that one state. Colorado's narrowed right down, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Nevada are all closer than is comfortable, and Romney does have the momentum. And it's bizarre, because he's a terrible candidate. Those 47% comments should have made him unelectable.

On the positive side, Biden showed yesterday they have the right arguments on their side and can express them forcefully, whilst highlighting the nonsense positions of the Repubs. If the analysts actually did their job last night, they'd have made that clear.

That Clinton interview with Fox made clear that if Gore had got in, there'd have been a far more concerted effort to actually get Bin Laden, maybe even before 9/11 happened. There certainly would have been no Iraq. That alone would have changed the world a hell of a lot, here in the UK as well. feck knows, we might not have Tories in power right now.

Don't be so naive. Talk is cheap, Clinton had years to get Bin Ladin, and failed miserably. The post 911 decisions would have been practically the same. There was a hell of a lot of pressure and support for the decisions made in 2002-3.

If Gore were elected and 9/11 had still happened, our oh-so-patriotic Republican Party would have blamed Clinton and Gore for it 100%. They'd have run on it for decades. If it had been prevented, we might well never know it was ever tried.

They still kind of do, as demonstrated by mjs' use of the typical attack of the "right wing neo-cons", as ol' Bill lovingly calls them. He destroys that argument far better than I can, however, so I'll not bother.
