US Politics

Ironic coming from politician of a state often holding out its hand for government funds, cough*LOUISIANA*cough, somewhere in the top 10 of federally bailed out states. Curious if any recommended conditions came with that money given to coastal red states to combat flooding and storm surges.

Just like Rand Paul, who votes against federal funds for disaster relief every time it comes up, except when it's Kentucky, the state he represents

This kind of shit is only going to make actually antisemitic conspiracy theorists feel as if they’ve been proven right. The kinds of people who think that the USA is run by Jews or whatever.

Everything they "think" Jews are doing in the background. Elon Musk is openly doing in plain sight. In terms of openly threatening Congress. Holding his vote lottery/scam in swing states. Now ingratiating himself with Trump and being appointed access to self deal his own interests. Conspiracies are what they are.

How are the Democrats so much worse at this?

It is in interesting question. I wonder if there are any psych papers on this subject area.
Politics requires hard decisions and ability to get past feelings. Politics is ultimately a power play and they're all self-serving in that regard.

Perhaps the DNC is filled with too many bleeding hearts and empaths (probably more likely "dark empaths" as politics is a power pursuit) holding out hope for overall goodness and order. But there is internal differences between centrist and far left causing friction that is not always resolved when enacting policy and governing.

Whereas the RNC is filled with sociopaths willing to do anything to hold power and enact their beliefs even when it undermines their own voting block. Perhaps some are empathetic but they fall in the party line for policies. And in centrist and far right differences they will universally toe the party line in contrast to DNC splits.

I could be totally off above.

Watched this DW Documentary. Sometimes you get the feeling you underestimate how far it goes back. Federalist Society, Gingrich, Tea Party, Fox News, birther movement, it's quite all encompassing.

For those not aware of this subreddit and want to keep track of all the other shenanigans being pulled in this country as we speak, sub to r/Keep_Track

Especially for those of us in this country though it will likely you even more desperate about the state of this place.

Case in point...a little update on the GOP circumventing the vote of the people in Minnesota and North Carolina:

The sub does a good job at tracking many things that don't get widely reported but are arguably just as bad, or even worse. Imho anyway.

Partly true, I would say. The Democrats suck at messaging, but whenever someone uses the trans issue as their go-to example, I get a bit suspicious. Which Democrat is out there saying what the Republicans are accusing them of? There isn't one. It's just the Republicans lying really effectively.

I watched an interview with one of the candidates for DNC Chair on the Pod Save America podcast, and he made some interesting points about how the Democratic party fails to communicate in unison. Like for instance how Biden walking the picket line with the UAW became seen as a Biden action rather than a Democratic party thing, because they don't pick it up and message on that effectively.

I’m guessing that’s down to the private donations from corporations and the Uber executive on the campaign team. Plus can add in Biden also forcefully shutting down the rail workers strike.

Republicans have been all hitting the same talking points daily for over 20 years. It’s like they all get a daily fax from, oh let’s say the Kremlin, and read from the sheet.

It definitely a big asset to them, their supporters then all make those same arguments, it makes their propaganda way more effective.

I’m not the only one who wonders if the democrat party is just here to lose to the republicans, that their big donors and party power players prefer republican rule and just need to look like they’re trying, to keep a real left wing party from forming.

The run up to the DNC elections were amazing, like this party is cooked they absolutely cannot get away from the identity politics man. Congratulations to Vance on being the 48th president i guess.

Surely a simple and effective tact for the Dems would be to have a liver tracker of basic issues; price of eggs, price of gas, police funding, drug prices, either generally or state-by-state, to show what the government cuts and tariffs etc are doing to people’s pockets.

Maybe even a live tracker of tax cut benefits. You out in your wage and it shows how much better off / worse you are compared to to someone on say 2x / 5x / 10x your wage?

This is the new party chair

If I may play devil's advocate:

The job of the party chair is to rebuild and rejig the party infrastructure in order to support midterms and the eventual nominee for president in 2028... And for that, you do need money.

Now the nominee should be more principled in getting all money out of politics. But they won't get far if there's no party infrastructure to amplify their message and work on down ballot races at local and state levels.

But overall, it's been pretty underwhelming from the Democrats. They still look shell shocked.
