US Politics

Trend rather than over performance?

Millennials are overwhelmingly more liberal.
Could very well be a trend. Though what I've said after Brexit and Trump is that hopefully those events were such extreme shocks that it could change the voting behavior of those who stayed on the sidelines (which young people, of course, make up more of percent-wise)

I think what we are seeing in modern Western politics is a rejection, especially by younger voters of these traditional political labels. People want quality candidates who are going to work for their constituents rather than blindly follow some political ideology. The traditional parties' unwillingness to adapt to this new reality is one of the main reasons for the rise in popularity of a lot of these populist movements.

The wealth gap and continued underinvestment in education have created a lower class susceptible to populists. Read up on the late Roman Republic and you'll see how strikingly similar the situation then were compared to now.

We've just come full circle.

I'm still shocked almost half the votes went to a child molester. Feckin hell Alabama.

Well done to the African American community though for at least restoring some dignity to the state.

Wow! Things really are looking to point towards a Dem wave at the moment.

Bloody hell, spot the odd one out:

This is awesome news to land to.

Senator Doug "Mike "Back Then They Didn't Want Me" Jones" Jones

Just need to flip one or two more elections and that is toast for Trump's agenda.

Whilst it's obviously a great result it's still concerning that 49% were happy to vote for a child molester just because he's on their political team.

This is suitable compensation for Alabama making it into the CFP. Roll Tide.

And the allegations were just the tip of the iceberg. Someone with his radically fundamental beliefs should be in a mental institution, not a few votes away from Congress.

Exactly, didn't his spokesman say he (Moore) believed homosexuality should be illegal?

That clip of the guy in stunned silence on being told you don't have to swear on a Bible though

Yeah especially considering it took a significant turnout of African American voters to gain that small majority.

Aye. Also said all the amendments after the 10th are irrelevant (including the ones about slavery and women suffrage)

That clip was comedy gold.

That's how I feel as well. It's obviously great that that nasty, pedophile cowboy didn't win, but the amount of people voting for Moore despite him being accused by multiple women for sexual misconduct when they were teenagers, him wanting to outlaw homosexuality, him being removed from office more than once, him saying that America was last great when it had slavery etc. is staggering.
