US Politics

but after almost a year, I've come to the realization that he's not got what it takes to destroy the world,

I think you seriously need to reassess your thinking as that's a pretty narrow view you have there. All the environmental laws, excursions in to foreign countries, verbal wars with various world leaders, complete breakdowns of trust with foreign countries. Just because he may not be firing nukes in to the sky doesn't mean his Presidency isn't seriously destructive on a global level. It could take years to repair what he's doing, and he's only a year in.

He's not getting much done right now, and he'll get even less done come 2018. I think the US will end up paying a heavy price for those 80k idiots in those 3 states, but the world will survive.

He'll spend his time screwing over the Americans rather than screwing with the world.

He's not getting much done right now

Seriously?

Jeez, sorry but you have your head up your ass if you believe that. Look at the people thrown off healthcare, the recent 59,000 Haitians having their emergency residency status being revoked. The oil drilling, the pipelines working and leaking, the proposed Muslim bans, the removal of protection for elderly savers, the lack of staff in every department, the fact the head of the EPA is a climate change denier, the head of education is opposed to most public school ideas or policies, nearly every department has someone in that is against the idea of the department or is trying to bring it down or at the very least hinder any progress. The removal of any climate change language from the official White House website... There are literally dozens and dozens of things I could list and there are probably hundreds more I'm not even aware of.

Honestly, I have no intent to argue or be obtuse but seriously, wake up. Look at what he is doing. He is systematically destroying Government, departments of Government, ripping up laws protecting citizens, environment and animals. He's destroying trust and relationships with countries around the world and only strengthening new ones with Israel and Russia.

The "he's not getting much done now" opinion is so dangerous, naïve and extremely wrong.

The plus side of destroying the GOP is true, but he's also destroying trust in the free press. He's getting a lot done. Maybe not as much as he wants, but don't fall for his distractions, seriously, he's doing far more harm than obviously you are aware of.

Anyway, wrong thread for this, so I won't derail it further. Apologies all.

I was well upset for a while with Trump being president of the electoral college of the US, thinking he'd destroy the world, but after almost a year, I've come to the realization that he's not got what it takes to destroy the world, yet is doing just enough to destroy the GOP.

The court appointments will have long term impact. Plus with this lifting of net neutrality it may affect the rest of the world.
Regardless I hope he suffers hugely in his remaining years.

The end of Net Neutrality combined with voter suppression and the lifting of ownership regulations for regional news networks is essentially game over.

What websites people get access to in America will be decided by the corporations. That means social media companies like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit will have to ask how high they need to jump when companies start questioning why their products are being criticised. Internet Service Providers are going to be hot property for the likes of the Koch Brothers and Murdoch.

Remember when Google started leaning on Niall because there was too much profanity on here? Now imagine that someone noticed the Trump thread and how it had nearly 3 million views. That goes against Murdoch's agenda so he decides that Sky Broadband customers will get a cap on visiting this website of 20mb a month. As the second largest ISP in the UK, it has an impact on hits to the site, advertising revenue to pay server costs and the activity levels of the community here so it starts to decline. Now imagine ISP's doing this for every website that promotes something against the owner's agenda or business interests and you can see the threat it has on freedom of speech alone. If you want to see how it affects the growth of businesses look at how AT&T throttled Netflix bandwidth to give their own HBO product an unfair advantage.

On to the Washington Post/Amazon Web Services platform then.

The point is that internet service provider ownership will become the next form of power. Owning a Newspaper was the thing years ago then a news channel and next it will be ISPs. Imagine deciding what people can access? It’s a wet dream for Murdoch and the Koch Brothers.

Amazon is the largest cloud platform in the world. They connect the world.

What does it take for them to go off Trump then? Trump's support of Roy Trump wont do it?

It's cultural and regional, often their upbringing (ex: me, being raised in Texas was led to believe that Dems were communists who hated god and country). It takes seeking actual answers and one's own personal belief/views of humanity, IMO. I feel for all people and realize that I've had it quite good in life, mainly from my own actions and choices but also that I'm white and never faced what others have.

But if there's firm treasonous proof through the Mueller investigation, or some hack release, I hope/think most service members would jump off the Trumpwagon.

Amazon doesn't own the infrastructure for spreading the network. Cloud companies will increasingly depend on the ISP's.

Google Fiber's progress in the market has stalled, but I would imagine they'd be prime to take advantage with a net-neutrality pledge to all it's consumers.

I saw this on CNN yesterday. With that kind of stretching I'm surprised they didn't strain a muscle.

Doesn't take away from Moore's odiousness. My fear is that Moore will ratchet up pro-life rhetoric against Doug Jones (who is pro-choice) and use that to get into office.
What could be more pro-life than wanting to share sexy times with 14 year olds?

I think it all depends on what the American voter stands for over the midterm and in to 2020. Outside of the big banks/pharma/health insurance and MIC who hold all the power, Obama did a pretty good job of cleaning up after Bush. If people on the right acted like adults and didn't lose there shit because a black guy was in charge there would be no Trump. I agree with you about his policies and the danger they pose we have to also say that outside of the worlds totalitarian regimes none of the globe is following his lead. The courts are also reigning in his bullshit and if Mueller keeps it up this disaster will end in utter failure. The conservative voter is the problem, especially when they would rather a pedophile representing them then a democrat.

Of course you make fair points there BUT @Cal? said Trump isn't getting much done, when he couldn't be further from the truth. He's systematically destroying everything Obama did whilst at the same time acting like an authoritarian Dictator with his attacks on the press and literally ANYONE who disagrees with him. At the same time he's passing severely destructive laws that effect the environment and wildlife, healthcare, benefits, education and the military. He's ripped up laws allowing women to have abortions overseas, he's reversed laws protecting elderly savers, kicked millions off Obamacare and tried numerous times to destroy it, to the point he's even included a portion of his tax bill that will help reverse some Obamacare options for people. Recently reversing laws protecting 59,000 Haitians who were escaping the devastating earthquake on their beautiful island. As I said, I could go on and on and on with things he's literally getting done on a daily basis. To say he's not getting much done is entirely false and extremely naïve. Yes, the courts are blocking things, and people are obstructing and fighting back, but too many are going along with it all because it benefits them or they want their agenda passed and don't want to get on the wrong side of the big fat orange manchild.

Also you have to consider his Supreme Court pick and the fact he could easily get up to two or three more, and then you can see why it could take a long, long time to clear up after him, with much of the damage he has caused being irreversible and why saying he's getting nothing done is completely the opposite of what's actually happening.

I also think you are being a little unfair as I think the saner, more intelligent Conservatives, those with a conscience and morals simply won't be able to vote for Trump or people like Moore who represent their party. I think the election in 3 weeks will be a massive gauge on what TRUE morals and principles voters, especially Republican voters actually have. If any at all.

Totally agree, unfortunately the things you mentioned are extreme to the point of him being a cnut for the sake of being a cnut. There is not much we can do apart from people power and the courts. He will do this shit until Schumer or another influential Democrat comes in to massage his ass and kiss his ego, then he will bend to them, that's how the idiot works. I just hope that if the Democrats take full control again Obama's executive orders be made law. Maybe LeVar Ball will distract him for a few weeks until fingers crossed, Doug Jones takes the Senate seat. Then I would like to see the media do a proper job of putting the women who accused Trump of sexual misdeeds in the public eye before the Mueller round houses the feck out of trump inc.

To be fair, his impact on oil drilling has been minimal. It was under Obama that US oil production skyrocketed and it was mainly due to the Sauds that there is a recent spike in activity, just like an uptick in coal was due to actions from the Chinese. He can't take credit for any of that. And the short-medium term environmental and societal impact of pipelines is debatable given how much damage the massive train network which already carries the crude (which no one talks about) is already doing in its stead.

It's not to say there isn't damage being done under our noses- largely by Sessions- but if we're going to shine a light on it we need to be accurate. Otherwise we play right into 'their' hands.

Wouldn't surprise me if another really damaging story is about to come out and that's why he's jumped ship.

Franken and Conyers should definitely get out. Would also put a lot of pressure on the Repubs to get their candidates out as well.

Sorry, I phrased it badly, he's not getting as much done as I feared would be a better way of putting it.

He's tried and failed to get rid of Obamacare, he's not getting his travel ban implemented, he's not getting funding for his wall...

I mean, the current regime is BAD, but it could be a lot worse, and things will get better in 2018 with it becoming even harder for him to get things passed.

There is hope.

That's what I hope for, but don't really expect it. This week, the leadership of the GOP has been very silent on Moore. Next week, they will talk about taxes, and in the meantime, the elections get closer... a repeat of October 2016!

That's fair enough mate. I completely agree it could be a lot worse if be were more competent and less divisive.

Well... That wasn’t weird at all

The guy who does it specialises in weird editing. There were tons of Cruz videos on an anonymous youtube account. These were to be used by his SuperPAC since the candidate and PAC weren't supposed to coordinate.
So this guy (Vic) found all his stuff there, and edited the zoom, voice, etc.
