US Men's National Team Discussion

Awesome, can't wait. What a fecking coward. No way does this relationship get fixed to where it needs to be any time soon when the adult in the room can't be bothered to even try on his own.

Sickening how corporate JR became when he really blew up.

Back in the day when he grew from being local to national, there was absolutely no discussion of NECKCAR & soccer except to make fun of them.

What more is there to say by Berhalter? If he's willing to let bygones be bygones and keeps playing him, that sounds pretty fair to me. And Reyna has to step things up on the sporting side anyway, if he doesn't want his career to go down the drain at club level.

He needs to actually talk with him. Was Gio a prick in the WC? Sounds like he was. Was Berhalter right to not play him? Sounds like it.

However, the drama all kicked off because Berhalter started blabbing about stuff to the media after the WC and now he is doing it again. It is understandable that he would not make contact prior to the official announcement, but to still not have reached out, and then to comment on the player, is just stupid. You are the coach, reach out to him and extend an olive branch, if for no other reason than you can say to the media: "We spoke and had a productive conversation, and I am looking forward to working with him." Instead, the continuing narrative is going to be "Will Berhalter play Reyna?" for the foreseeable future. One simple phone call, even to say "Congrats on the cup, you played fantastically" would have prevented that.

Maybe he thinks it's a bit too soon to pat Reyna on the back? Trust has to be earned. I'm not informed on all the media drama, but I think actions speak louder than words and immediately starting Reyna sends a pretty clear message in my book.

The major media narrative here in the states as soon as it was leaked that Berhalter was being rehired was Gio/GB.This was only compounded by how good he looked in the two games, especially since he was playing in a role that Berhalter never wanted to use him in.

It is not about "patting him on the back", it is about re-establishing trust and a working relationship.
- Gio screwed up big time and lost the trust of GB and his teammates. It sounds like he owned up to that at the WC and started mending fences. This window there was nothing but positive comments about how he behaved in camp and you could see it on the field.
- GB handled things ok at the WC, but he fecked up big time afterwards by shitting on Gio to the public. It is on him to try and repair this relationship and it does him no favors to start talking to the media again before he makes even a token effort to reach out to Gio.

end of the day is this....if the players have a coach they trust and believe in, it's hard to over look that belief. it's pretty clear the players have that with Greg and if they'll run thru a wall for him then we can't really pass judgement.

Reyna screwed up and realistically it should be him who makes the first move HOWEVER for the sake of the squad, Greg should be the adult and mend fences

Spared a few thoughts for @WI_Red upon seeing the news

Underwhelming reappointment to be honest. Would have loved the chance to see a coach with new ideas come in and drill the team ahead of 2026.

Another concern (not coach related) is the lack of solid competition in CONCACAF apart from Canada. Thank goodness for the Copa next year.

Thanks.... honestly, at this point it is what it is. His biggest flaw is making in game changes and getting too cute with his tactics. We saw with Callaghan in the Nations League what this team is capable of when the coach is not a net negative. The tactics were sound and shifted slightly between the game to account for opponent and personel issues and the subs were all well times and made sense. If Gregg can do that then all the more power to him. This is the horse we are tied to, so I will be a GGG proponent and hope to hell my previous views look stupid in a few years time.

Fereira starting over Vazquez is a joke, especially since our strategy seems to be launching long balls.

Excited to see Neal. He's been shakey at times for LA when I have seen him, but is an excellent passer and only 19.

What if we passed it forward in the final third instead of turning around and passing backwards?

I assumed Berhalter was sort of incompetent but if the Athletic article about the World Cup was right, it sounds like Berhalter would have had a players mutiny on his hands if he put up with Reyna's shit.

Great player though. Whenever I see him he looks really promising.

The gap between the MLS guys and the European players is absolutely massive. This is really bad.

Meh. I should have just gone to bed.
Could have been worse - I set my alarm for 3am over here in the UK in order to watch it. Probably not my best decision.

I wanted to see how some of the squad players / MLS players looked as I wasn't overly familiar with a good few of them. There was obviously a big drop off from the key, European based players - especially going forward and attacking end product.

In fact, when I saw the teams, Jamaica looked like they'd have more attacking threat / end product with their PL based players. I knew Antonio and Reid had opted to represent them, but I hadn't realised Gray had as well!

So I wasn't surprised by the final scoreline, but I did think Jamaica surprisingly didn't threaten much at all apart from the set piece goal and the missed pen, and US should have scored more but for some good saves and wasteful finishing / final balls from the understudies. A starting XI with any or all of the likes of Pulisic, Reyn, Balogun, Musah, etc, would have obviously seen a much different result.

I thought Turner, Sonora and Neal looked all right. And, as has been mentioned, bringing a proper #9 on in Vazquez finally made a difference in the final third.

not easy though guys for these MLS dudes to be thrown in together and have to perform with the pressure of winning the gold cup again....jamaica brought all their top players for this event so a draw isn't a terrible result...

these mls guys need some time to practice and train together instead of basically putting together and MLS All Star team for an event

Looking at the Gold Cup rosters , Mexico better walk this. They have the majority of their first team I think.

I genuinely feel bad when we have matches like this. It's got to be humiliating.

Yeah, you could see it in Fereira's reaction to the goal. No joy in this. The sad thing is they kinda need to keep going for it as GD will be important for who tops the group.

US Soccer with another "fantastic" choice for a game location:

1. Southern City where it is likely going to be hot? Check (it's 95 here in NC)
2. Choosing a stadium with artificial turf, then covering it last minute with grass to make it legal, then watching as the ball literally stops rolling? Check.

Also, if someone asked for a definition of a CONCACAF ref I would point to the ref in this match. The ref has called 7 fouls on the US, only one on T&T despite the US having 60%+ possession. Ridiculous.

Where are we playing them, Charlotte or Raleigh?

from a logistics perspective it's a great place to host a match given all the big soccer cities within a 2 hour drive
