Iv been saying for the last few weeks now that he isn't having bad games as such, he is just contributing very little really. Like you say he is a good utility player but not sure if he is good enough to be our starting DM once we get back into the Champions League etc.
Yeah, this is how I feel about him. He's been a welcome addition/improvement, and he's an intelligent player, but I'm not convinced that he's more than a squad player in the long run.

We always seem to share the same sentiments "Speak"

Would love to see how United would do without Blind, only reason why the ball occasionaly comes in the opponents half, 7/10 of his passes are forwards. There arent many DM's with better passing ability. Without a DM who can pass the ball forwards from his own half, this system is worth literally nothing.

Well if Blind doesn't play Carrick will probably play and he's a forward passer as well...

1. Daley Blind is a good player but massively overrated on this forum.
2. Marcus Rojo is a bit shite.
3. Herrera is a better player than Mata.
4. RVP has been decent this season and not rubbish as seems to be the general opinion.
5. Di Maria's bad form has been overstated and he's still our best and most creative player.

1. Agreed, I'd throw Herrera into the same category too though.
2. Disagree, I think he's done a decent job so far considering it's a new team, league and language for him and he hasn't been able to play with a settled partner.
3. Disagree, Mata's top level is far higher than Herrera's imo.
4+5. Agreed.

Okay, what if we play Wanyama/Carvalho/Matic there, all decent passers but this role is so difficult. Getting the ball forwards in a static approach.

I'm always under impression Carvalho is more of the box-to-box type.Never really a fan of Wanyama or Matic type of holding midfielder anyway (was it called "destroyer"?)

They're very good players (dont know about Carvalho this season) but the Blind/Carrick/Busquet type players are so essential for this system, fair enough to think Blind isnt good enough but I just think, who else then besides Carrick.

If you want me to suggest first team signing,Schneiderlin?I'm always an advocator for Pearson to inherit that role.

3. Mata's top level is far above Herrera's top level. Mata at times dissapears though, while Herrera is always contributing 50/50
4. Good end-product, shit general play and very selfish. 50/50
5. Agree

Valencia is atrocious defensively. His positioning in particular is awful, and he's basically got by on being very athletic, less injury prone, and sightly better going forward than Rafael. He'd be nowhere near the side if we had a decent right-back.

He's alright at tracking back and sticking a leg in, but it's almost a certainty that he'll be stood in the wrong place if a cross comes in from the far side.

This, and

He misses everything and is always scrambling. Terrible to see.

Daley Blind as much as I like him, isn't the answer for the deep midfield role. Keeps possession tidy, but is too easy to get past, and has no physical or athletic ability of note. Carrick is still a far better player.

Absolutely. Decent passer, but not more. Good utility player, good sub, covers a lot of positions, and can from a solid part of a 2-man DM. But not good enough alone. Carrick is better at everything except mobility, and it's not too far there either.

All in plain sight today. Is LvG blind?

EDIT: No pun intended

Woodward did very well to bring Falcao here. He brought one of the best strikers in the last few years, possible replacement for van Persie. I remember the first day we signed him and the reaction in the thread- “he’s Hernandez but with world class touch”. Well it turned out he’s Hernandez without the speed (his positioning is still quite good TBH).

Considering Falcao injury, Ed was right to bring him for a one-year loan on a trial period. But that’s not his fault Radamel hasn’t cut it, to put it mildly.

Fellaini did a decent job yesterday, people get on his back because they dont want us to play fellaini ball, but individually he was quite good/okay to me. Won a lot of battles but even put in 2 or 3 good through balls and offered some threat offensively. Ideally he would be no more than an impact sub, but his impact this season on average has been greater than Mata"s one for example.

I agree.

Two things, when Fellaini does 'okay' it's not enough, he is a limited player who needs to bring his A game if he wants do be useful to us. And Fellaini's game does not correspond to the rest of the team he is useless to us most of the time.

What? Dont get unreasonable just because you dont like a player, he had much use for us. Playing those balls to him is almost like a short cut to get the ball in the opponents half and he even created some chances (sounds weird) 2 for di Maria and 1 for Young at least, had a good header too, he clearly had his use.

Was great to see Wellbeck celebrate his goal last night against his old club. If only more players followed suit.

It's not about liking or not liking a player in the first half he was good because he had the balls coming his way, but when we changed Herrera for Carrick, Fellaini was useless, it's not his fault but a player like Fellaini can't be only useful when we are attacking effectively.

Mata wouldn't improve us and people need to start complaining why he isn't starting.Rooney and 1 other striker still the best option.

Last night was actually a good performance by us.

If Messi actually left Barcelona somehow there would be a lot of bad blood there.

According to him, every player should celebrate - at least thats what i think he implied, which means Messi would be right to celebrate against Barcelona irrespective of how he left the club.

In fairness, Messi has given a lot more to Barca than Welbeck did to United. I think he was speaking more along the lines of players who had average to decent spells at a club not celebrating when they score against them. Lukaku not celebrating when he scored against West Brom after a season loan springs to mind.

Depends on your experience with the club, Lukaku's West Brom gesture was a good one as he had a good time at the club, Welbeck was in the academy when the likes of RVN were United players, he was about 11 years old which just shows you how long he has been with United, he is a United fan. He probably wouldn't have celebrated if SAF was still around.

Yeah, maybe. I didn't mind Welbeck celebrating last night. Maybe I was too pissed off at other players on the pitch to care too much, but in general I prefer players celebrating than the sort of insincere non-celebrations you sometimes see that are almost becoming a celebration themselves.
Giggs should never have been made #2
Not 100% sure about that as I don't know what affect he has, but I definitely do not want him as manager unless he proves himself properly at another club, preferably for at least 5 years.

Think about it

Tito - Pep
Clarke - Mourinho
Karanka - Mourinho
Queiroz - SAF
Rice - Wenger
Phelan - SAF

The #2 role should also warrant some level of experience as well

You would want Messi to celebrate against Barcelona in the Champions league? most likely going to be a hatrick as well

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if Messi celebrated if ever played a competitive game against Barça and scored. Sick to death of players scoring against their old club and not celebrating.

Giggs should never have been made #2

I fully agree with you on this. For van Gaal having an assistant who one day clearly one day wants your job, is always a risk.

Van Gaal is retiring after his contract is up, and said he likes to keep somebody from the old coaching staff around, hes mentoring him and takes most of his advice from Albert on match days anyway

Welbeck celebrating was justified, we didn't want him, LVG said some disparaging things about him so why can't he celebrate. Fans need to stop being babies.

Will never understand why Sturridge never celebrated against Chelsea, they treated him like shit.

I agree with the celebration not being a big deal and all, but LVG's comments about him were true - he just wasn't good enough it wasn't personal, if he took it personal then its on him.

He has been a lifelong fan though and an Academy player so i can understand why some fans would feel some type of way about him celebrating his first goal (flukey) against United, i personally don't care enough about Welbeck to deem it a big deal.

The thing is sometimes fans need to realise players don't automatically have beef with the fans, it's how they feel the club has treated them.

For instance when Tevez left I completely understood as he felt he was being dicked about. He left for Manchester City as he didn't see them as our rival compared to Liverpool. When he first came up against us he never celebrated but the fans still turned on him so he next time he though feck it. Tevez loved the fans his problem was with SAF more than the club but fans don't understand this.
