Uniteds summer activity

If we can get them then we seriously need - Bale, Neuer, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Jovetic too for the playmaker role but maybe Clevelry can grow into that role but thats a huge ask.

And Rodwell would be a nice little bonus if we can get him even though we are not desperate to have him but it would be nice to give Carrick and Fletch a kick up the arse by signing him

I think this summer we have to spend the money and its as simple as that. To be honest its absolute Rubbish when people say we dont need to spend much. We have been saying that for a few seasons now and the team stuttered along with too much pressure on certain star players. If we win the league this year then some of it will have come down to Chelseas stunning slump. Winning the league will help to attract the big names too so fingers crossed!

Why do you think we need a winger (that we have) and a striker (that we also have) but do not need a midfielder?

Regarding wingers, we only have two good ones, in Valencia and Nani. Giggs can sometimes fill in, but Park is not really a winger. Now, you can't expect Valencia and Nani to play in all our games. Just look at our games this season.

But in truth, Nani and Valencia can and will play most of the year from now on and we're probably not going to buy an expensive winger to sit on the bench, especially as we already have Giggs, Park, Obertan, Fabio, etc.

The only player I could see us going for in this regard is Bale, but that's unlikly imo, given that our priorities are in central mid and at keeper.

Why should United keep Owen? He's hardly fit when needed and hardly needed when fit.

I give Owen shit for always being injured yet get stick.

Honestly if you think we have a £100 million "war chest" you have your head in the clouds. I for one am prepared for a very, very disappointing summer. All for being proved wrong but I really just can't see it.

When have united ever had a £100m warchest, except in the imagination of some tabloid hack?

We'll spend in direct proportion to how this season goes now. The worse we do, the more we'll spend.

I have suspicions that Ashley Young is the player we were looking at in January, and I think he'll be our first summer signing.

That would be a good buy.

When we already have 2 right footed wingersin Nani and Valencia, and Morrison,King already earmarked? Doubt it.

Creative midfielders ....Modric please as long as it's not a ridiculous fee

Watch him. He is being used a a central midfielder, can play across the middle. Superb eye for a pass and a set piece. Would be a perfect buy.

I never understood why Ashley Young is not rated at all here. I think he'd be a good addition along with a central midfielder and a keeper.

Oh I rate him alright but not convinced he's what we need..unless we're thinking of letting a winger go and as Giggs has been offered a new contract,Valencia's back,Welbeck( who can play on the left wing too) etc, I can't see us putting in a bid

I am personally resigned to the fact Nani has one more season at OT before he is off.

He's quality for Villa. Is young, English and versatile - played left. right and through the middle for Villa this year.

He also won't cost a fortune - the main reason why I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie was interested in him.

Why do you think that? Surely not on the basis of yeterday's game.

Do you just feel he'll be off to join his mate at Madrid?

Also - Valencia suffered a horrific injury. Often players never fully recover mentally at least. he may not be the player he was.

Where to? He wouldn't get a game at the top two in Spain.

But he might be happier nearer home. However he did come out with some nice stuff about Utd and how SAF wanted him to take the lead etc...so can't see him buggering off just yet

Very pleased we have the big sneezy and Wilshire right about now.

It depends on what buying Young means and the cost. He's a good player, who would hugely improve our set piece delivery and is much more reliable with his final ball than several of our players, but he is also more limited than players like Sanchez or Hazard and he won't be what we need in the middle.

For me the dream would be Modric plus Sanchez. I don't think we need a striker and I don't think that would block anyone coming through.

Rodwell would be a buy we make because he's gettable now etc but I don't see him hugely improving the first team right now.

There are plenty of players who would improve us: Schweinsteiger, Sanchez, Modric, Defour, Hamsik, Pastore, Banega etc.

I think the fact that the list is quite long shows how relatively weak we are in midfield.

You're clearly in need of strengthening too though. That defense is still way too weak, and an out and out winger would do you no harm either.

Indeed. Though a fully fit and firing Vermaelen, Djourou and Kosceilny will be an excellent combination of CB's to have. Despite Djourou's performance in the CC Final he's been excellent this season, and Kos had been great up until that monumental cock-up. Vermaelen was a revelation last season too. Hopefully we can have all three firing at the one time and have a Vidic, Ferdinand and Brown kind of scenario (as in three quality CB's) going on.

Meanwhile Bartley (CB) has looked good on loan at Rangers, and Ryo (LW) has became a fan favourite over at Feyenoord after his second game... Hopefully they can come in next season and have an impact.

Let me make this clear first, our squad and first team are in no way as bad as some on here make out. We have probably the best squad in the league. But i think we need to freshen up the first team a bit. We need to buy one, maybe two established players, and not bebes and obertans. Any one else reckon we're going to heavily invest this summer? Or am i talking out of my arse and we should stick to our policy of buying young players and developing them?

Put Spurs right back in their place. Get Bale and Modric. Plain and simple. I don't care if we blow all of Ronaldo's £80M.

If they don't qualify for the UCL then anything could happen..one of those 2 will want a move

Exactly. I don't want us to get more young maybe's. We need some experienced talents, not necessarily marquee names. But the squad needs some freshness and some bar raising in certain departments.

We have been saying that for a few seasons now and the team stuttered along with too much pressure on certain star players.

The past few seasons nearly saw us, by a single point, lift an unprecedented fourth league in successive campaigns.

It's not really rubbish is it. I mean you don't win three Premier Leagues and lose out on your fourth by a point, on the basis that only certain star players are performing.

I am personally resigned to the fact Nani has one more season at OT before he is off.

Really? I don't think there's a chance in hell he will go, and I very much doubt we will be looking to sell.

I reckon there's more chance of Rooney leaving in the summer then Nani going next year.

That hasn't really worked for Arsenal, and I'd say we're only adopting this lately because we can't really compete with the likes of Chelsea and Shitty in spending.

Regardless we have to spend this summer muppet or no muppet. We have our best keeper in ages retiring, arguably our best midfielder, and an ever-ageing Ryan Giggs. The defence is fine, our attack is fine, but feck me we aren't going to get far next season with Carrick, Fletcher and Gibson spearheading our midfield.

Arsenal's policy was forced on them because they do not have the money to spend on big transfers

We need three new, quality outfield players.

Modric and Rodwell would be a massive improvement to our extremely average midfield.

One of Bale or Sanchez to give us even more cutting edge.

Without some serious bolstering this summer, I can see city going in to the league as favourites next year. I also have my doubts Fergie will ever get his hands on big ears again, but I sure hope he does!

A lot of ifs and buts there though cescs, it's a bit like our squad in that regard. Both you and us need a few established players and can't just rely on the youth to break through. Problem is that both teams have rather stubborn managers in that regard.

I thought Kos was pretty poor btw. Vermaelen is quality but his legs look a bit crocked. Djourou, 50/50 on him, has a lot of the needed traits but lacks something for me. He's young of course so that can all change.
