Uniteds summer activity

Certainly is an added significance to this window. I hope we blood some youngsters before then (unlikely barring injury) to see what they are made of.

I think we will mix it up, signing a few but promoting players from the academy for a shot too.

Apart from the game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, I've been underwhelmed by Henderson every time I've watched him.

He's full of energy, but his passing isn't up to much. He wouldn't offer any more than Fletcher.

Yeah, I think he'll probably train on but can you really pay £20m for someone who's worse on the ball than Fletch? I like Fletch, but he's limited, and spunking the sort of money you'd need for a top class keeper on a player like that doesn't sound right to me.

Dont get the henderson hyper personally. Id be happy with rodwell, as long as we also get a more creative midfielder.

Perhaps cleverly could be that midfielder, remains to be seen. A winger would be good to.

This. He's amazingly overrated. It would be the most underwhelming signing we could make and hardly one to strike fear into the hearts of our rivals

The squad certainly needs some investing with Giggs and Scholes bowing out. Perhaps a defender as I think Brown may be off in the summer and Rio's getting a bit injury prone.

I'd be happy with a midfielder or two, a goalkeeper and perhaps a winger (Young maybe?).

We definitely need to freshen up the squad, too stale now IMO.

We'll be linked all summer to a few players no doubt. Wait on the price, value etc

Owen will sign a new deal, Gibson will be sending out rousing messages and thus the cycle continues.

Why should United keep Owen? He's hardly fit when needed and hardly needed when fit.

we've got some very goodt squad players and some reallys promising youngsters

still feel we could really use 2-4 additions

what we really lack are leaders on the pitch - players who have the presence/fight and have the ability to take control of game

I think in our away games we've really missed players of the energy and dynamism of Tevez or Hargreaves or the leadership of Roy Keane

I just hope Fergie makes the right choices as far as the squad goes - we have carrick/anderson and fletcher on long term contracts - i'm not sure we need gibson as well with the likes of pogba coming through

it wouldnt break my heart to see 4 or 5 leave this summer with the same amount coming in

For me hargreaves, owen, gibson should go - they've had ample opportunities to prove fitness and havent convinced anyone

some of the squad players might make way as well - don't see how diouf is going to make an impact especially with welbeck returning and we might see obertan on his way as well

Welbeck , Cleverley , Schweinsteiger, Rodwell into the squad would be perfect if we can find 40 odd million pounds to invest in summer.

Schweinsteiger? whats the current situation with him? Is there a chance we could get him for around 30 mil pounds?

Not going to happen, signed a new contract keeping him at Bayern until 2016.

it might if munich miss the champions league next season.

Would cost a lot of money, if he hadn't signed the new contract then maybe, but I highly doubt it would happen unless there is some release clause.

From some of the negativity in these types of thread I see a lot of our fans have been beaten down with the last few quiet transfer windows post-Ronaldo, along with the many articles predicting our downfall due to debt.

Fergie has said he will buy big when he feels the time is right and there is little doubt that time is this summer, now it's possible that he's lying to cover for the financial restraints but I don't think Fergie would sit idly by as everyone strengthens and just keep backing the Glazers with lies, it does nothing for him or the club.

This summer is huge for us and Fergie rarely lets us down, so I'm pushing my pessimism to the side until proven wrong.

we've needed a solid creative central midfielder for atleast 2 seasons...hopefully we'll buy someone in the summer.

we should buy 2 midfielders..

Ferguson would have signed a top class midfielders two years ago, or last year if he really felt bad about current state of things. We've had the same midfield for a while and it never really performed much better. Money could be an answer to that but then again two creative midfielders of highest quality have moved since then for peanuts and we showed literally no interest in either of them which makes me think that he has different plans for this team. I think he reckons a midfield consisting of Anderson and Fletcher, possibly Gibson, will be able to do the job in future. As I've said his record with midfielders in the past few years might have made him reluctant to bringing new ones, he would rather rely on signing other players and keep our midfield average to decent.

This summer, 'no value in the market' and yet players like uzil and vdv will go for similar money as Bebe!!

We need to ensure players like fletcher, scholes and giggs are squad players and not first team regulars.

I think he's waited on several things to happen and none of them have, this is a manager that had midfields led by the likes of Robson and Keane, plus for years we have had the quality of Scholes, but even Fergie must know Scholes limits now at 36. I feel in Anderson, Fletcher and Carrick he's secured a base, but I just can't believe he wont move for some creative class and some steel in the summer.

I'm guessing the two players you're alluding to are VDV and Ozil? in the first case he only went so cheap because it was a last minute deal, Ozil always wanted Spain and barely plays a full game because he gets tired, he's best off where he is and I imagine Fergie looked into him thoroughly.

Ozil would have gone to Real anyway but VDV wasn't out of our reach at all. There were plenty of other midfielders available but I think Ferguson might have been looking at other positions in which case there might have indeed been no available players of sufficient quality.

Van Der Vaart would have cost us more than he cost Tottenham but it still wouldn't have been much and the other player was Sneijder but yes, Ozil is indeed another one that would have come handy but we showed no interest.

There isn't that much wrong with the squad. I don't buy into the whole major overhaul needed group. We have some very good younger players and a good spine.

All we need is a high class deep lying, creative midfielder (Modric) and we'll be good IMO. Perhaps a ballwinner too but I wouldn't say that is a pressing concern.

Van der Vaart was set at £18M earlier in the summer when he seemed destined for Bayern. I don't think Sneijder was available this summer gone, the one where he went to Inter he had been out with a bad knee injury so I can see why Fergie was cautious.

Plus, Ferguson doesn't seem to be that keen on traditional no.10s. Frankly, I'd be surprised if he was after Van der Vaart or Sneijder last Summer. And I'd be equally surprised if he went for that type of player (Pastore, for instance) this Summer. Not saying he shouldn't, I just don't think he will.

I guess Anderson was the last no.10-type player we bought and he was quickly transformed into an orthodox central midfield player. I think Ferguson likes one of his strikers to be the creative influence from deeper areas: players like Sheringham, Cantona, Berbatov, and to a lesser extent, Rooney.

If I had to bet on who we might bring in in the Summer, I'd say Ashley Young. And despite what I said about Henderson earlier in the thread I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see him brought in as well.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I basically agree but I think we could add another winger without too much worry. None of the players coming through play there (Cleverly is better centrally) and Giggs can't play every game.

Modrić would be perfect. Of course we will also need a goalkeeper.

Other than these obvious additions, I feel that we could really use some guile further up the pitch. Silva would have been ideal. It is a shame we missed out on him, and also Özil, who is sensational. I hope that we do not lose out on Götze; he has the potential to become this type of player. This type of player would give us much more fluidity in attack. We are far too static now, and it is frustrating.

I'd rather we blew the whole budget on getting a proper replacement for VdS than muck around spreading it over 3 or 4 players.

With Valencia hopefully good to go next season I wouldn't be devastated if we only added a keeper - I guess Ferguson will think there's more to come from Anderson especially, but also Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Fabio and even Nani. Add to that a continued return to form and getting to grips with whats needed from Carrick and Berbatov and we'd be OK I think.

The signs are we'll get a keeper and at least one other - I just hope we get the goalkeeper decision right though.

If we can get them then we seriously need - Bale, Neuer, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Jovetic

And Rodwell would be a nice little bonus if we can get him even though we are not desperate to have him

I think this summer we have to spend the money and its as simple as that. Winning the league will help to attract the big names too!
