No I never said we should win 5 or 6 nil every game! To win convincingly doesn't mean you have to win by a certain scoreline! Winning convincingly means, winning occasional games with a good strong display throughout the entire match and not just a good 10-20 minute period in the second half. I don't expect us to win by large amounts, I just would like to see more consistency in scoring and conceding in games.

I think you are referring to 4-4-1-1 as a form of 4-4-2. You can have 5 flat across the middle and have more runners from the middle, without it having to be a form of a 4-4-2. Italian teams often adopt five across the middle in success without forming or basing it on 4-4-2. Giovanni Trapattoni is one example of this. His teams have been based on that tactic.

Well in as much as it adds up to 10. But it's less attack minded.

I think it is obvious we should play with 11, so find Forgone/Forwho and replace him with Ole.

Donaldinho has a point for God's sake. We are the best club in country and we have got start proving so be commanding displays.
:(

I disagree, IMO there are only 3 true formations, and all are expressed with three numbers. 4-4-2, 5-3-2, 4-3-3. All others are nothing more than a tweak of those three.

O/T here! Anyone watch Soccer AM this morning? Our Danny Webber was on the show this morning!

I'd like to see Scholes move to midfield, with ole moving up front with Ruud. And someone from Mid, coming off.

Yeh? well our old tweak version was much more effective than this tweak(creak) version.

4-5-1 will never win us trophies imo, because one up front is not enough. Crosses become ineffective because one striker is easily marked, the one striker also will find it hard to hold up play, and when he does get the ball has no partner to play it too. It won't score many goals - so even with a great defence it will have more draws than an attacking team would have. It also sucks to watch. It also takes away the organisation of our team with all the midfield players becoming the same - I think its a mess quite frankly.

I hate to be negative, but our defence looks slightly letharhic. There were times when i could see what the opposition were doing but the United defenders just stood there and watched... aka the Beattie shot which Barthez saved brilliantly.

I don't see how it's a tweak though! Midfield is a different position to Forward, so if you are taking from up front and putting him in midfield, you are thus creating a different formation. You could sit three in midfield and use the wide players to attack. Then the player who was moved back into midfield to make the midfield 5, could easily do a completely different job than to what he would do if he was linking up front, or playing up front. So in that sense, you are creating a different formation rather than tweaking.

Come on you reds !!!

Why play with 4-5-1 when we have been murdering teams with 4-4-2- for the last decadeand we also have the best crosser of a ball in the world IMO? We need to get back to our best. 4-5-1 is not too bad for away matches, but at home? give me a break.

Exactly.

And even if we score a few now, it won't alter that fact.

That makes it 11 in 8 for the kid who's carreer is over.

TRM.

There's a lot of pressure on Ruud! He's just come back from injury and put straight into the starting lineup, but he's also short of recent match practice AND he has to play up front on his own. That's the problem for a start! Like Neil T said, one upfront will always leave you lightweight up front. That is unless you have a striker of blistering pace up there to effectively make space, through his speed!

Maybe he thinks it is his racehorse that is playing up front

I couldn't believe it against Haifa seeing Ole on the fecking right wing and Forlan playing deep so that we basically had no one in the box. When he switched it and put Ole up front, Forlan went to the bloody right, and Ole did at least stay up front but had no outlets for the ball. If there is no one alongside the striker he has to just play it backwards. And the midfield play it forwards less because the one striker is easily marked out and unavailable.

And if that's not frustrating enough for the striker, he then has to contend with all the comments that he's not good enough.

Well, Ruud does have a long face, if that's what you mean

Why do we persist on playing 1 up top against the "weaker" teams? Especially with Ruud back.

If we go three at the back we'll lose it. Bad idea Arnold.

It's all feckin' Southampton at the moment. Get a grip guys.

Radio comments (and not Alan Geen either) include :

"Midfield not competing"
"Giggs not flying"
"Defence looking edgy"

Come on you reds

Well don't get too excited. Ole's record as sub is not as good as everyone thinks, as I might have mentioned a few times.
