United set for 'busy' summer of transfers

I hope you optimists are right. I'm especially praying for those who predict the purchase of two central midfielders. Blessed they will be in my eyes if that indeed happens.

In terms of the departures I doubt there's much chance of letting James, Norwood, Ajose and Drinkwater for .5 million. I reckon Drinkwater could have another loan spell and if he gets the right championship club could be worth a couple of million. The other 3 I definitely cant see leaving, I would be surprised if all three didn't end up on loan next season.

James was impressive in the Championship in both his spells with a struggling Preston so I think he would only improve in a better team, I haven't completely given up on him making it here never mind selling him for .5 million.

I don't think Norwood will make it here, but he is an acomplished passer of the ball and his set pieces and powerful shot would be an asset to a lot of teams. From what I can gather his loan spell with Carlisle was pretty average but hopefully he might do better on loan next season.

Ajose is a player I never rated particularly highly, but he has been very productive from the wing at every level he has played including his very successful spell at Bury last season in League 2. Hopefully he'll get a loan in the championship next season if he keeps improving he could end up being our next Cleverly.

Certainly I can see Matt James and Ajose ending up being worth much more than that whatever about the other two.

Ok, I'll play.

That's a good team, there's no doubt about that.

Notes:

1. Don't let Anderson go to the Copa América (if he is selected that is) and give him a run in the team and back him to succeed.
2. It's important to leave spaces open in the 25-man squad since in 2012/13 De Gea, Fabio, Rafael, Amos, Welbeck and Bebe all need to be registered.
3. Berbatov, Park, O'Shea and Gibson all have one year left on their deals and should be given new contracts. The first three because they deserve them and Gibson because it just makes sense. Valencia has two years left on his deal but I think his performances have earned him a new one and there is no need to wait.
4. Neither Modric nor Sneijder are realistic options in my opinion. I have a lot of faith in Anderson to step up big next season and unless we can sign someone who is a clear upgrade over him I don't think we should sign anyone who will compete with him for playing time. Since we still have Giggs in his new central role for one more season we have that safety option for 2011/12 and if things don't pan out we can reevaluate next summer. Signing someone who can partner Anderson in a midfield two is more important and I think Defour fits the bill quite nicely. He would primarily compete with Carrick and Fletcher but could also play alongside Carrick as the more attacking of the two. The latest talk out of Belgium also suggests he is leaving Standard this summer so he should be available. Unlike Rodwell or Henderson he could come in and make an immediate impact. M'Vila would have been a dream but he recently signed a contract extension and so isn't a realistic target for this summer.
5. Our wing depth is fine and we have no need for a new one.

The Answer

Good post, makes sense, im just overly convinced on the wings

So you think Defour is the answer to our midfield problems?

And keep having faith in Anderson. Good for you!

Man Utd legend Scholes: I love all the transfer market gossip | Premiership News | tribalfootball.com
Retiring Manchester United legend Paul Scholes loves the transfer gossip as much as any fan.

Scholes admits he's keeping an eye on all the transfer rumours swirling around this summer.

"It is a great time of year," said the 36-year-old.

"Even when I was a player you see all these top players around the world that you're linked with, and you are excited about maybe playing with them.

"Now I am just like my son, hoping we buy the best players in the world and that they make us even stronger for next year."

Even scholesy unleashes his inner muppet in the summer. :D

So if Scholsey was a poster here he'd get mocked and ridiculed :)

What the feck has a war torn state like Sudan got to do with helpin our mid-field problems & Neo is a fictional character in a movie aswell dude?!

I think you've completely misread the thread man, reckon you read it as "minefield" instead of "midfield". Easy mistake. Off you go son
