United set for 'busy' summer of transfers

In fairness Sultan, we're not entirely sure Young could cut it either. If he steps up like Valencia did however in coming to United, he'd be a good addition undoubtedly.

Young has shown a lot more than Cleverly so far (obviously). He would improve our set pieces straight away, and can play across the pitch. He's been consistently productive for Villa and would be a good value move. Sanchez or Hazard have more upside but Young brings a lot of positives.

There are never guarantees AdZz. However, Young is Premiership proven and an England international which ain't a bad CV. I just think there is something about him which would benefit United as a squad. I don't think he's an upgrade on Nani or Valencia.

Young coming in could make sense if Berbatov was off, as he's been playing off a striker most of this season.

We on;y missed Valencia so much because 3 lungs was also unavailable ... ie very unlucky. Do we really need Young when we have Giggs and Cleverly as cover?

Just how good is Ashley Young? What is is talent development curve? Do you see him becoming as good as say nani has become?

Giggs will be 1 more year older and Cleverly is not really a traditional winger. He likes to play off the inside, as does Park

If we're thinking about traditional style wingers, then really we only have Valencia and Nani

I do agree with you both, I just feel there are perhaps better options out there.

I'm all for giving Cleverley his chance. The English Silva. The fact is we don't need to sign anyone to help us compete so bringing in players that won't drastically improve the squad doesn't seem to be an option. Does Ashley Young bring anything to the squad that we don't have. I reckon we'll either do what we've done the last 2 seasons and buy more potential or a single big name with 2 others. I also expect we may be having a clear out of some of our youth players and we'll be getting a few of those 5 lads we invited over as well as that chilean striker.

Fixed.

And, no!!! Conveniently, this MIGHT have something to do with the ST renewal date drawing ever closer.

Well, we've just win the league and are in the final for the CL. I would hope it wouldn't need promises of big signings for those who can afford it to renew.

If it were possible to persuade VdS and Scholes to give us another year, I'd be fine with no signings.

I think Young is good enough. I think everybody had similar concerns about Valencia when we signed him.

Young's versatility, pace, delivery and proven PL record says to me he should be a good signing. Plus, with only a year left on his contract he won't be overly expensive. Also, as he is English, it helps us too with the quota rule.

people bigging up young are some of the same people that laugh at walcott.

Not saying walcott is a top player or anything, but he's better and younger than young (not saying we should try to get walcott either).

do lads think our performance against barca will dictate some of the moves we make?

i.e. if we win, it'll be modest moves....but if we lose, that'll be 2 losses in 3 years, and some big moves would be done to change the team?

Should make no difference at all. One game doesn't show anything.

Fergie will be aware of areas which need to be stregthened and in my opinion will do so regardless of the result.

To be frank, young wouldnt improve the quality of the team at all. We have better than him already, and adequate back up for our wings. Pointless signing if we do sign him IMO.

Only he would. He's a quality player and option to have in the squad. Except Valencia and Nani, we do not have any quintessential wingers. Park is not one, Giggs is a better CM now and Obertan, Bebe etc havent cut it yet. Plus Young is versatile enough.

Sneijder or Pastore would be good buys.

Can't see past Buffon for nets

I'd expect him to sign an established player and then two randomers

Buffon = Permacrock

Sneijder or Pastore would cost about 30-40mill, more or less. Not going to happen.

I don't think that is necessarily true. Walcott definitely has more potential. But Young has proven more reliable and is certainly more intelligent. Plus he's less injury prone.

Right eh, thanks.

Seem to remember us singing the likes of Berbatov, Rooney, Ferdinand, Veron for big money but sure u know best

Nothing to know. Our first priority is buying a GK, which is where Fergie will spare no expense to get the man he wants and rightfully so. Rest of the areas are still decently covered enough for us not to go wholehog for a certain player or be held to ransom. But dont let me piss on your fire, carry on.
Berba, Rooney, Rio were all relatively PL tested and proven and the one big money signing from abroad in Veron didnt turn out so well which says quite a lot and set a benchmark for future transfers. Fergie lately has always been keener to spend the big money on PL proven players. Again, I guess that douses your muppet fires, thats why you dont want to hear it.

I would say they offer different things. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say even if we buy Varane he will not be 1 of the 3.

When did you turn into one of those annoying tools who thinks he knows who we are/aren't going to sign?

Why does everyone think I'm saying I know for sure? Thats just my guess, how I perceive it. I could be right and I could be well wrong. It can go either way obviously. Besides my guess was based on our recent transfer activity more than anything else.

Either way, I dont mind. We already have a great squad, so if we dont sign any marquee players, I wouldnt fret and if we do, I'll be happy just as anyone else. I guess I'm out of my depth in this forum. I never come across the way I intend to around these parts.
