United Open Talks With De Gea ?

David De Gea's move to Manchester United has been thrown into doubt with the news that Atletico Madrid want to loan out current number two Sergio Asenjo.

Sir Alex Ferguson is set to sign goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard – as revealed by talkSPORT back in the summer – but he remains keen on De Gea, 20.

Atletico Madrid remain adamant they will not let the Spaniard leave without a fight and the fact they are ready to let Asenjo leave on loan for the remainder of the season suggests De Gea won’t be going anywhere until at least the summer.

Asenjo, 21, has lost his place in the Madrid first team to De Gea, with injuries halting his progress.

Madrid are willing to send him on loan for the remainder of the season in the hope he can regain some form.

The move appears to rule out a January exit for De Gea but if Asenjo can prove himself away on loan – with Wigan one of the teams approached regarding a temporary move – then the young Spaniard could yet move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Was he ever supposed to be coming in January? Summer makes much more sense.

Also, if he has a buy out clause in his contract which is met then Athletico can't stop him can they?

I doubt there is any chance we will be buying De Gea. If we have just forked out for a good Danish keeper as one for the future then why would we sign another young keeper with potential? Its seems like its just a smokescreen for another keeper we might buy if we buy another at all. Buffon or that Dutch keeper are more likely than De Gea.

Salary unlikely to be an issue if we go after De Gea. He's apparently on 400k Euros/year at the moment and Atletico have offered to treble it.

Just thought I'd mention that given SAF's talked a few times about how you have to look at the transfer fee + wages when you look at a buy.

That said, Lindegaad could be a great keeper for all I know - but then I know nothing about him.

Could mean that we are going to replace both PIG and VDS, who knows the PIG status, hasn't been playing at all.

Surprised noone has spotted Mark Ogden on twitter quoting de gee as saying he won't be leaving atletico so the fans should relax.

Yep looks like THE END

Atletico Madrid's highly-rated young goalkeeper David De Gea has pledged his future to the club and ended talk of a summer move to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with the Red Devils in the past few months, with United on the lookout for a long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar, who may retire at the end of the season.

However, De Gea told his club's official website: "The supporters can relax, I'm staying here. I'm very relaxed and there's no reason to move.

"I'm very happy here, I've spent my whole life here and this is a great club that deserves everything. Atletico Madrid have given me everything.

"It's a compliment that a club as great as Manchester United are interested in you, but Atletico are close to my heart and I want to stay here."

Balague said on Revista yesterday that the deal is all but done, and that he will come in the summer.

I'm not sure which of the last two posts makes it more certain that we're not getting him.

I cant see us end up with two inexperienced keepers (De Gea and Lindegaard). We will be signing Anders + we will either keep VDS for another year OR get an experience keeper (Rai Van Del Gouw type) to act as cover for the Danish keeper

He's not been too great. Would still be a good signing though nothing would be as good as Neuer

The number of yellow cards in this At.Madrid game has been crazy. 7 already

3-2 Espanyol. De Gea got a hand to it but nothing he could do.

I love At. Madrid games. The most entertaining team. Can't defend and love to attack.

I saw that also, he seemed pretty sure but then I seem to recall he was sure Torres was coming here also....

Another horror show for De Gea. Poor poor mistake right now allowing Aris to score.

Well yeah, it was a shitty punch from him, but the defending afterwards was even worse. Atletico never seem to get it right when it comes to defending no matter who they put in there.

Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea knows he could follow in the footsteps of his hero Edwin van der Sar at United.

The 20-year-old knows United are watching him and has has left the door open to moving to Old Trafford in the summer.

"I know Sir Alex Ferguson already has viewed me," the Spaniard told Voetbal International. "My contract with Atletico runs until mid-2013.

"After this season we should look at what happens and who wants to talk can come and talk.

"At Atletico, I owe them everything and I would love to stay, but on the other hand Manchester United is a great club."

On his hero Edwin van der Sar, De Gea added: "Edwin's style appeals to me. I've tried to make it my own."

As soon as a player is linked to a club he immediately starts saying how the players he's going to replace has been a hero of his etc etc.

Except that De Gea's nickname has been Van Der Gea for a while now. Clearly just a ploy to get us to like him.

It's interesting that two of the top young keepers around are known fans of ours. De Gea (actually, he almost seems a bigger fan of VDS rather than the actual club itself) and Adler. Definitely gives us good options if we are looking to sign someone else as well as Lindegaard.

Our respected Guillem Balague:

DE GEA TO UNITED?
Hi Guillem, I was wondering if you could clarify the David de Gea to Manchester United rumours. Are United prepared to match his buy-out clause and, despite de Gea recently rebuffing suggestions of a transfer, is he open to moving? Finally, were he to move next June, I take it he would arrive as United's new first-choice keeper with the other new goalkeeping arrival Anders Lindergaard playing back-up to de Gea? He is a top class keeper and one of only a few who I think could take over the mantle from VDS. Thanks, Shane Farrington.

GUILLEM SAYS: According to my sources Atletico Madrid know that de Gea could move to an English side - that being Manchester United. There is an issue with his agents that may make things a little bit complicated. His agents have a mandate until the end of June, and after that he will probably be taken over by new agents. If that's the case, it looks like the new agents may have a deal with United, and if they take over, this may well be respected. If it's with the old agents, it's up in the air. I think they have been to see him and liked him. Somebody at Atletico told me that he is practically gone. I may be being a little bit ambiguous, but I think that this could be the case.

Our respected Guillem Balague:

He's got about as much inside knowledge in that statement as I have - zero - and he's read a few copies of Marca, like i've done. The thing no one really knows is whether De Gea's interested in moving.

I can still see it happening though and I still think it would be a good move for us.

Was not Ballague "sure" of him moving to United just some weeks back.

Just a little bit, Guillem.

It's like having a fortune teller writing a football column - predict 50 things and 10'll be right and the other 40'll be written off as last minute complications.

Past few games he has made some outstanding saves. One in particular against Espanyol in the cup where he looked as if he had an injured hand, moments later his outstretched hand tipped a header onto the post. One of the best saves i've seen.

I would still prefer one of Adler, Neuer or Lloris over this guy.

Lloris has never looked all that convincing to me, the other 2 i havent seen enough of to make a proper judgement. I try watch most Atletico games.

I haven't seen enough of all 4 keepers to choose between them - Adler is the one I have seen the least - but generally, I prefer a german goalkeeper. Germans always have excellent goalkeepers because of their personality.

For every really good goalkeeper Spain and France have had over the last 20 years - you can probably name 3 German goalkeepers in the same class. They are usually obnoxious on the field - but they are good!

Lloris is just another Ben Foster. Good shot stopper, poor at crosses.

Neuer would be my choice as in my opinion he's the best at handling crosses out of those who've been linked with us. Wouldn't be unhappy with De Gea though, good keeper and very young so has got a lot of time to improve.
