United linked with Fernando Llorente

Juve could do with a striker.
Much better option than Liverpool.

Will Llorente want to play moneyball on his first and last massive contract? Arsenal is the obvious one, isn't it. Juventus will probably be in the hunt too.

Would be good for Liverpool yes, but you wonder if Rogers is going to say he wouldnt fit his style of play. I would imagine he'd want to be an assured first team starter wherever he goes to help his international career with other Spanish strikers making a much better claim for a shirt.

Why wouldn't Llorente fit his style? He's a fantastic hold-up player and good with the ball at his feet which is what he was looking for when he broke Swansea's transfer record to bring in Danny Graham.

Because Llorente doesnt have the reputation of being a good ball player, despite the fact he is imo. He'd be fine but I dont know if Rogers would agree. Graham fell out of favour didnt he? And you'd think Liverpool would have the resources to get him the exact kind of player he wants (just not a high profile version)

I think that he could be a great player in Premier League. Even I could see City tempted to go for him (IMO he's an upgrade on Dzeko). And if Juve will get him, then they could really be one of the top contenders for UCL.

Athletic have confirmed that Juventus are officially negotiating with Llorente.

Would be a move to really put Juve back on the map again. Would he be allowed to play in the CL?

Looks like he is going to stay at Bilbao till the summer.

"Juventus Football Club informed Athletic Club on Jan. 3 that, knowing Fernando Llorente will end his stint at our club on June 30, 2013, they will begin negotiations with the player to incorporate him into their squad," Bilbao said in a statement on their official website.

But..but..they have they have the world class striker that is Bendtner!

To be fair, I'd say they're already on the map - winning the Serie A last season and going undefeated and all.

Even if it didn't, I don't see how signing Llorente would put them there. Decent player, but not the type of player where a club would suddenly go from not on the map, to on it.

Nevertheless, would be a good signing for them.

Signed for Juventus.

On a free at the end of the season.

Would we need him? Dont see how he'd fit in here tbh.

Bilbao believe they achieved the moral victory by forcing him to stay till the end of the season. Lets see if Llorente cares when he has a Serie A winners medal at the end of next season

I actually feel sorry for Llorente in this saga. Athletic basically refused to sell him, and have chosen not to play him. He's started 1 Liga match.

I know they'll probably talk about all that, "head in the wrong place," stuff. But I don't buy it. I've not heard him say anything bad about the club or the manager and no one's accused him of skipping training, or not trying. They've let him lose match fitness and form. As far as I can tell, he's wasted a year just as a warning to their other players to renew their contracts when they're told to.

They're now 14th in La Liga.

Juventus are being pretty classy at transfers.

Pirlo, Bonucci, Barzagli, Pogba, Vidal and now Llorente have together cost less than Stewart Downing.

Serie A is an average league.Given he's on a free and could go anywhere, I can't see why the PL wasn't more appealing.

Still, Juve are on the up I suppose and its probably a nice place to live.

I don't know how he will fit in there.

As number 9 in place of Giovinco/Matri/Quagliarella/Bentner. A partnership of him and Vucinic with a midfield of three from Pirlo, Pogba, Marchisio and Vidal and with that crazy back 5 and Buffon in goal is pretty scary. One of the teams to beat in next season (well in this too).

Well, he basically plays as a targetman, with his back to the goal.

feck, why can't he move there now. I wanted to start him in FIFA 13, they're the team I use :(

To be fair Matri/Quagliarella and Bendtner are not players that move that much so he will be an improvement on any of them. Giovinco is entirely different type of player but he definitely is not good enough for them.

Also, Juve were interested in Dzeko and Drogba too which are pretty much the same type of players with Llorente so it seems that they were looking for exactly this kind of strikers. They made a good offer in summer too but Athletic refused so he has been their target for some time now.

I know. But isn't that the reason why their strikers aren't really scoring a lot of goals? Giovinco is their top scorer, I believe, with 6 goals this season (in the League). And then them getting a player like Llorente, who really isn't a pure goal scorer. I mean if they get a proper number 9, relying on the service from Pirlo and co, their attack would be certainly on a different level.

Serie A is a good league and the whole notion that players care all that much that they are going to play against Stoke, Newcastle and Everton instead of Parma, Lazio and Sampdoria is probably wrong to be fair. As long as it's a club within the big 4 leagues in Europe, players won't mind going there as long as the offer is good and club presents attractive opportunities.

Living in Turin is probably prefered to living in Liverpool anyway, and unlike Liverpool, Juventus are actually going to qualify for Champions League next season which is a huge draw as well, and surey outweighs the pull of playing at Villa Park and Upton Park.

Which of the English clubs were interested and are any of them better or bigger club than Juventus?

Personally I think that the main reason is how Juventus play. Playing with 5 defenders and 3 central midfielders pretty much sums up why they don't score that much. From their 2 strikers, Vucinic who is the first choice is a good player but not a that good finisher while all the others are very average.

What do you mean by a proper number 9? In my book Llorente is a No.9 player. Also whom they can got that is better than him, especially considering Juve's finances which are not that great (new stadium, many failed signings that were in the last regime, players that still are/were 'till this year in their pay check, and Uefa Financial Fair Play)

In what way is it possibly average?

It's top 4 at the very least and Juventus are a top 5 in the world club as well as one of the all time great sides with real world class history (the side of Del Piero, Zidane, Platini, Laudrup, Scirea, Nedved, Charles) unlike Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Spurs are any other 'appealing PL sides' who Juventus are better than anyway.
