United linked with Fernando Llorente

I don't think we're interested and there are other more important areas that we need to address. Even if he is a good player, we have good players in that position. I'm sure his club are just looking for a nice sum or his agents seeking a new contract for his player

Liverpool should have shelled out for him instead of ACar.

United boss eyes swoop for La Liga ace claim Spanish press

Manchester United are reported to be lining up a move for Athletic star Fernando Llorente and hope to get him for nothing according to press reports in Spain.

Catalan newspaper SPORT are reporting United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is to wait until January before beginning negotiations to bring the 27-year-old to Old Trafford, ahead of a potential move when Llorente’s contract expires in the Summer of 2013.

With the Spanish international currently stalling on committing himself to Athletic, Ferguson is said to be ready to offer Llorente €180,00-per-week to come to Old Trafford next year – plus a signing-on bonus of €2 million.

It is claimed United have already made contact with the player’s agent and Athletic, however, with the Basque club demanding that the full fee of his €45 million buy-out clause is met, Ferguson is now said to be willing to wait six months to monitor the ongoing contract negotiations.

It would seem unlikely that United will be successful in their pursuit of Llorente as the player is one of the most sought-after forwards in Spanish football, however, Ferguson is still said to be ready to maintain his interest in bringing him to Old Trafford.

These days it feels unlikely that we can get a world star because SAF is not willing to/cannot pay top dollars for his man. We won't pay over €20m for anyone it seems.

I dont think thats the case. Its more about wages than the fee. We'd pay the transfer fee, its the wages where the problem starts, we wont break our structure.

I'm surprised he's still at Bilbao - he has been highly rated for a while now but this summer at least nobody has been talking about him.

I thought City might go for him as he's an upgrade on Dzeko, or Chelsea as a replacement for Drogba.

Has he shot down interest from other clubs, or has no club gone in for him this summer?

Not sure why we would try spend big on him, rather we used a little more to go for RVP.

Good player and a different option than RVP would be. Kind of the player Carroll should have been (assuming he was any good). Would be delighted to get him but it won't happen

We'll sign this and that player (and that one and this one too) but after one year, when their contracts expire. Is this a new tactic for the tabloids or for clubs to appease supporters, in any case, it fails to raise my interest

Why that part? It's about £140,000 a week.
What's unrealistic about that?

It would make him our second highest earner but if he is going into the last year of his contract then we could get him for a fairly low price which would mean we can spend more on wages.

I'd rather give Nani the £130k he wants though.

This isn't as unlikely as some are claiming. He's in his last year of contract and is unwilling to sign a new one. We're interested in a new striker, I doubt his wages will be that high but could be a backup option if RVP goes somewhere else.

We don't need him at all, Rooney ahead of Kagawa with Hernandez and Welbeck on the bench is more than good enough forward options.

Feck knows why Llorente would want to come with that much competition, personally I'd prefer the Kagawa/Rooney combination, so that would mean Llorente wouldn't be first choice.

These Basque players seem very loyal, I doubt Llotente would let his contract run out and leave for nothing when Athletic could well get €25m for him.

He's apparently told them that unless they sell him now, to a CL club, he will indeed leave them on a free at the end of the season.

There's speculation that he's fallen out with Bielsa as well.

Incidentally, Athletic do have an advantage over other Spanish clubs - a top rate of tax of 25% (compared to about 52 to 55% in the rest of Spain). It makes some of their players very expensive to other clubs.

Well, that is that.

The Spanish clubs will sign him up and if they miss him, PSG, Man City or Chelsea would be interested in him. Not to forget that his agent will probably want a piece of the cake something that United wont give.

He is out of our reach.
