United in this Summer transfer window

Every transfer story regarding us has l;inked us to CM's which is obviously a good thing, but it also seems likely Nani will leave and there is no rumours of a replacement being bought. So I'm guessing we are going to go with Young, Valencia, Welbeck and Zaha as our 4 wide options.

Januzaj is signing a new contract and if Moyes is serious about bringing through youth, he could be a dark horse next season.

He may also want to use Kagawa out there, especially if he does sign an attacking midfielder. Although I hope I am wrong and Kagawa plays through the middle.

fecking reality, man. Reality.

Didn't RvP signing make you dream?

Would a genuine CM signing cheer you up?

Giggs and the two kids though are unlikely to start much, which gets me thinking we may well have another season starting with Young and Valencia quite often. I think Kagawa's positional future depends on Rooney.

Isn't a loan more likely for him though in truth? I mean not many jump straight into the United first team set up.

I think even if Moyes plays Kagawa from the left it will be more in the vein Fergie did and how Moyes used Mirallas last season, basically as an inside forward.

To be fair, in the past when we've done early business it's left the muppets frustrated as dozens of deals are done elsewhere throughout the rest of the window and we still sit hoping for that one more special player.

We could sign Falcao, Ronaldo & Messi tomorrow, yet we'd still moan when the transfer window closes.

No CM! We didn't need Falcao, we have RvP! Ronaldo is old, we should have signed Bale. Messi is good, but Argentinians always end up being cnuts! Heinze, Tevez, Veron..

then you guys are in for a hell of a month, the transfer window doesn't open til july.

Off the top of my head we signed Jones, Kagawa, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves, Valencia, Hernandez and Young before the window opened on July 1. We signed Carrick, Berbatov and van Persie well into the transfer window.

I'm feeling really apprenhensive about this summer. I know none of our domestic rivals have done anything substantial (unless you include Liverpool) but I feel very nervous about the prospects of getting any leading targets.

Assuming that we are in the market for one there's a lot of teams in the market for midfielders. Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, AC Milan and City are definitely looking for a player in probably the same mould we are.

Then there is the obvious upheaval regarding the management team. The concern here is that we are so focused on getting that done that we're not involved in getting the transfers done.

In the last few years we've acted decisively and very quickly at the end of the season. Last year it was Shinji and Powell, the year previous Jones and De Gea. We've had the deals basically done before the season finished and have completed as soon as possible. This year, with so much change, there is a danger that we will see a delay in identification of targets as the new team have to revise their targets upwards to the price bracket that United can afford. Then the deals can start happening by which time we might be trailing our rivals for that player.

I'm not saying that this is definitely going to be the case but I am concerned, uncertain, and more than a little nervous about this summer.

I think our targets have been identified for quite some time now, and I think the relevant people are working on potential deals. And don't forget Zaha is joining us :D

Yeah but those were Fergie's targets, not Moyes. Moyes probably won't want us to play the same way and therefore would want different players. Hence we go back to the drawing board of talent identification.

Because he's too old.

He wasn't too old this season, so why would he be next season? The difference between someone 39 and 40 playing on the wing is basically none. Bonkers reasoning.

I'm pretty sure some of the available players out there, Fergie's targets and Moyes' targets overlap (somebody make a Venn diagram!). And I don't think Moyes would complain if we got Fabregas or Thiago.

Moyes might like some of the same players Fergie liked. After all, the club is still the same, and the squad still has the same strengths and weaknesses. It's weird that people seem to think that just because Fergie liked a player, Moyes is definitely going to want to go in a completely different direction.

You're right, he might. But for all we know Fergie might have not been buying a midfielder this summer.. he's not been fussed for a while, so why should he be now? So he put all of his efforts into looking at wingers / forwards / defenders. Moyes comes in and is given a several options in those positions where deals are essentially lined up but nothing for midfield and Moyes wants to do something there.

No we don't know that the targets are going to be different and we don't know that they are going to be the same. Hence my original point of uncertainty and worry.

Giggs wide? I hope not.

He had that terrible game against Spurs out wide, but later in the season he showed that he can still be very effective there. Perhaps not against a team that has great speed on their right side, but I see no reason why he can't continue to be in the rotation.

If Giggs continues to get games under Moyes then hopefully we'll never hear again that Fergie played him on sentiment.

Giggs' best work was done from wide last season. We obviously cant play him there for 90 minutes and on a weekly basis, but in one off matches and regularly from the bench he can continue to come on and put in our best crosses from the left hand side

Giggs is probably still our best 'impact sub' if we need a goal. You get all of his good qualities (touch, vision, ability to play the pass others don't see) but none of his rather large downsides (lack of pace and energy, tendency to be sloppy as he tires). That should be his role.

What Fergie was doing continually playing him for full 90 minutes when he was barely able to pass the ball straight by the end was beyond me. Our poor back 4 must have been terrified everytime the attack lost the ball as they knew that Giggs wouldn't be helping back.

I think people are just generally nervous that we will sign two average players and am our competition will be splashing big bucks on top players.

I think this is in part due to Moyes' appointment and he uncertainty of what sort of targets he will go for.

In hoping Fergie's got this summers on the radar.

We're quite far off Real, Barca and Bayern still. Two top signings would be nice.

Told ya. Questioning me on transfer windows. Really.

I wanted it to be true! Football summers are depressing. Anything to spruce it up is always nice. A few pre-transfers and managerial appointments is all that is being regurgitated over and over again.

Though to be fair my favourite part of summer is once all transfers are done, the speculation is out the way and we get some pre season matches to get a first preview of new players or youngsters.

This pre-season will be particularly interesting to see how Moyes approaches it. Make or break time for a few players

We're sure as hell not far off Real. We were better than them in our CL tie, referees aside. And based on what we've seen since, I think we actually should have been able to make it easier than we did. They're not all they're cracked up to be any more. Add one decent midfielder to fill the obvious hole in our squad, and I'd say we're the better team.

Doesn't Everton have a Daniel Levy approach to the transfer market ie wait till the very end of the transfer window before closing the deals?
