United in this Summer transfer window

So Moyes is supposed to magically make Rooney happy or sell him to Chelsea. That makes sense.
Where have I stated that then genius? I never said Moyes is supposed to do anything, I even said "it's not Moyes' fault" it hasn't been resolved. I hope that "makes sense".

It probably was never going to be resolved until after the window because Rooney wants out and Moyes' best chance of getting him on side is showing that he's completely willing to keep him and being confident that Rooney's attitude will improve because he'll have no choice. He was never going to be able to immediately convince Rooney but he can decide to keep him, which he's decided to do, and hope that he can gradually work Rooney round.
Absolutely, hopefully Rooney will accept he isn't being sold, knuckle down and set about proving he's deserving of a new contract which I'm sure the club would be happy to give him. If he sulks it's going to be a long and rather tedious season.

Again we are looking for value, if there isn't anyone available we can wait for next summer and the one after, or the one after the next, or the one after the next after.

The point is, there wasn't anything that COULD be done to resolve the situation. So what's the point complaining about it. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Good job resorting to sarcasm.

Wait a minute, you're the one who quoted me, decided to completely misinterpret what I said and then put "makes sense" at the end, or is it not resorting to sarcasm when you do it? And I'm not complaining, all I did was respond to a post saying the Rooney situation is resolved when it isn't. You're the only one complaining about me complaining even though I wasn't complaining in the first place. Stop complaining.

Too much use of complaints in one sentence. If I misinterpreted the post, then fair enough.

The summer after a World Cup is renowned for value signings.

Normally by now we have completed all of our transfer business, and the last 10 days of the window explode with excitement and stupidity whilst we sit back and eat popcorn.

This year we have done nothing, and yet it still feels as though we are sat back eating popcorn waiting to see what everyone else does in the last 10 days.

Are we done? Or will we actually, just for once, give our fans a little bit of excitement in these final days?! More than anything, I want a shock signing out the blue who nobody saw coming. Like when Spurs signed Van Der Vaart on the last day out of nowhere.

I just get the feeling we are reluctant to do any business before a big game i.e. Chelsea game and that we may do something sometime next week.

I really don't think we are done, might not be a Fabregas-level signing but surely someone is coming in

:nervous:

I had a conversation along these lines with a pal when Woodward's appointment was announced. The general tenor was "what the feck does this bloke know about buying footballers?" The answer was "probably not much". Phelan makes a good point. Woodward isn't a "football" man at all. He's a fecking money man and is that the kind of man you want in charge of acquiring talent for one of the world's biggest clubs? Don't answer that.

Somebody on here suggested Fergie as director of football. Why not? He has the respect of players throughout the game and would do a great job of luring top talent. OK, during the past few years, he wasn't chucking his weight about in the transfer market like we all wanted, but he managed to convince Van Persie that United was the club for him. With the money to spend and the time too, I think he'd be a far better choice that Woodward.

We had the whole month of July and a huge part of August to do transfers and you think a match in late August is responsible for us not buying players?

I think he is just explaining why we have been so quiet this week. Well, except about 8am Monday (was it monday?) when we had the Fellaini/Baines bid rejected

Keeping activity to the last week of the transfer window would be foolish. If we lose to Chelsea, buying Baines/Fellani would make it look like we're desperate and failing to buy them would means we're likely to end up signing nobody of significance to improve our squad. We'll be much better off settling the deal before the weekend and announcing their transfer just before the game or something.

Why would the Chelsea fixture have anything to do with it?

Just a hunch, plus a few big games will be played this weekend, not to mention everyone will be focused on the games rather conduct transfers.

I guess i am just making excuses for Eddie's ineptness :D

It sounds like we might need someone almost in a Director of Football role who works under instruction from Moyes rather than as superior

Woodward has already made an impact with new commerical deals but we need someone dedicated to work on the football side

As fans with no real knowledge of the inside of the club, most of this summer's dealings simply don't make sense.

As we sit here with 11 days of the transfer window left, having had 2months to sort things, you have to think the chances of bringing in anyone now are becoming tiny.

Everton can't lose their 2 best players so late on without purchasing players themselves, and if 28m is embarrassing or whatever their statement said, they must be looking for scandalous fees for them.

I agree with one of the posters earlier, I can't see us doing anything before the Chelsea game, because both us and Everton will be focused preparing for games, and in some kind of lock down. I'd imagine more than likely we'll be spending time managing Rooney/fending off Chelsea after that!

there is on way...with the selfish profit seeking character of the Glaziers, and with their vast expereince of hiring people in all walks of business, that they would accept the Equaliser to be put in a position with the kind of power that inflences their investment. I think our transfer policy this summer is not too disimilar to quite a few of the seasons before. It hasn't worked out...

I was telling a mate the other day that Fergie should have been appointed as Director Of Football for United or David Beckham, he could be United's Zidane in terms of attracting talent.

That's not a bad idea. People might chuckle at the idea of Beckham doing that job but there's no doubt he's high-profile and knows a bit about playing.

This summer has been a farce.

Mostly because of the bullshit hype coming from Woodward and Moyes.

I am a big fan of Moyes but this whole window has been cringeworthy with bids being laughed at and called derisory, promises of star signings etc

So, according to the ESPN, we're relaxed about our chances of signing Fellaini and Baines this month; have made a move to sign Mata and the move for Modric has stalled because Alonso got injured.

Offloading Rooney and bringing in Mata, Fellaini and Baines would be brilliant business from us. Sadly, it's highly unlikely.

Only Stevie Wonder would argue with that statement.

Hopefully they can bring Ronaldo home and all is well again! I just hope we don't have a real chance of landing Ronaldo but feck it up because we refuse to offer more than £40m or something. If that were the case I'd honestly want Ed gone as quickly as he's come in, don't care how bratty that makes me sound.

Signing Mata should really signal the end of Shinji. Makes little sense otherwise. The two of them plus Adnan is a bit much, unless we are adopting a Barca or a City sort of style.

Not if Rooney goes, there's enough room in the team for both Mata and Kagawa. Chelsea currently have Mata, Hazard and Oscar, all of whom prefer the #10 role.

Exactly, how come all of a sudden competition for places automatically means players leaving?

Mata is one of those players that you'd just take regardless of who you already have in the squad. Like van Persie was.

Or Ozil. Or Fabregas. We've certainly been linked with a lot of quality this summer.
