United in this Summer transfer window

We aren't signing Ronaldo, Fabregas, Ozil or Modric either, that hasn't stopped anyone yet.

Where do all these bullshit rumours come from:lol:

Fellaini and Baines, sure, there is some credibility there as Everton have commented publicly on the bids made similarly to Cesc and Thiago.

But Mata? Why would we make a move so late in the window? Sounds rehashed bullshit from earlier in the summer.

I also see we are apparently after Ozil for 40m. Well obviously we would be after both Mata and Ozil.

Will be happy if all we did this window was sign Fellaini and keep Rooney/Nani. With Zaha in and a central midfielder signed we would be ready to go.

Fellaini - Carrick
Ozil - Mata - Kagawa
RvP
Totally makes sense.

To be honest, from this moment forth, I will stop second-guessing Moyes/Woodward for the rest of the window now. We have reached the point in the window where there is little time left for 'preparing' bids, making enquiries etc. It's all about action now, so with a week or so left, things will either happen now or they won't happen.

Mata is one of those players that you'd just take regardless of who you already have in the squad. Like van Persie was.

Agreed. I don't understand the rumours that he doesn't fit in Mourinho's plan. He is the only player in Chelsea's squad that I would love to have at Old Trafford.

We didn't show any interest in Mata when he was leaving Valencia from what I remember (I think it was mostly Arsenal linked but that ended as it usually does for them), so would any interest now be a sign of Moyes taking control of our targets, or is Mata now being Premier League experienced a factor? Ignoring that this news is likely bollocks of course.

Why? We've not sold anyone essential and we have signed a promising Uruguayan full back as well as got Zaha after initially setting up the deal in January. It's been a good window.

In 2009 we lost Ronaldo and signed Valencia, Obertan and Owen. It was much worse in terms of the relation between the strength of team at the beginning of the Summer and at the end of it. This year we're stronger now than 2 months ago thanks to Varela and Zaha.

feck me, the signing of Zaha in Jan, and a unknown Uruguayan full back this summer does not represent a good window Sarni. How exactly are we stronger this year by gaining 2 kids, having an unhappy star striker, Scholes retiring and losing the most successful manager of all time?

I'm all in favour of positive spins, but come on! It might not be the worst window ever, but it has to be one of the most frustrating. what, with the Rooney saga and missing out on thiago and fabregas, and now having a rejected bid from everton. Definitely not what I would term a good window......so far! ;)

Overall I'd grade our our summer transfers an absolute F. Not because we haven't signed any marquee players but, because even dealings that shouldn't be that complicated have seemingly taken forever or not just made to happen.

Usually we add to freshen up the squad a little not to mention a couple of fringe players or players that have been kind of there near the first team but, just haven't made the step up have been transferred out without trying to get too much back.

Repeating what others have said but, surely by now people like Macheda and Bebe either should be out on loan some place or should have been sold.

The reported bids we've made for players, it didn't take a genius to know any one of those bids was in no way going to be accepted. The United leadership can't be that naive - so have to wonder what the heck they are playing at.

It really does seem our first goal has been to make a marquee signing and then do the other business but, we seem to have given up the marquee signing and moved on finally to our more reachable targets but, doing so very late which is now going to make it hard to get. Negotiating with Everton for Fellaini/Baines earlier could at least have made them more amenable as they'll have time to look for replacements with the money but, doing it so late will make it tough for them - thus hardening their stance.

At the start of summer I was I had complete faith that we'll at least do some smart business - my faith was quite misplaced. Even if we pull off a coup at the last minute - that doesn't make up for handling the rest of the window in a seemingly haphazard / clueless way.

Well it's true. If you say things like "there is no budget" or "we can spend xxxx amount on players" it creates expectations which you'll be judged against. So for they've failed to deliver on those expectations set by themselves.

It's been a shit summer so far. No other way of looking at it. City have gotten a lot of good players, Chelsea FC have got the one signing they all wanted (mourinho) and the only real business we've transacted is losing ferguson and replacing him. So yeah, been fecked up so far.

Starting to really feel like we are not going to sign anyone this window. Hopefully that changes between now and when it closes.

Good window? Even the top reds can't defend this transfer window, if there aren't any new signings.

Hopefully we get a few players in. But I just don't see it myself. We embarrassed ourselves in the transfer market with poor bids for players.

Chelsea, City and Spurs have done decent business. Embarassing for us and Arsenal that Southampton have spent more than both of us combined.

Question though is, can we actually keep him fit
Doesn't matter. When he gets injured and comes back to fitness in jan he'll be like another new signing. We may actually sign Anderson a number of times this season, transfer window open or closed.

We've been a bumbling mess in the transfer window. Martinez made some interesting comments, namely that the way we've gone about our business this summer has been distinctly un-United-like.

Essentially, we're chasing a left back that we don't need in any way, shape or form. We're going to end up getting Fellaini for around £20m - so why didn't we just pay the extra £4m and get that bit of business done early? Finally, we chased Fabregas but seemingly set ourselves too prohibitive a ceiling to realistically get him.

The brief at the start of the window was amazingly simple - strengthen midfield. Thus far, we've fecked up at every turn.

Hopefully we learn our lessons from this transfer window and get our business done in a more efficient and swift manner next time round.

I'm basically resigned now to expecting little from this window. It's all about the football now and making the most of what we've got.

Perhaps.

I just cannot believe that we're even having to say "at least we might have learned lessons." I'd expect a bit more professionalism from the club and the ability to get the job done right first time. SAF left us in a very reasonable condition, but the one area that needed addressing was abundantly clear. That we've managed to go the entire summer without sorting CM out is really galling.

Any move for Mata which facilitates a move for Rooney to Chelsea is ridiculously stupid

Gives us what we don't need with Kagawa and Adnan coming through

Lets them get rid of a player they have plenty of and replace him with what they are missing - a top class striker

Buy Fellaini, keep Rooney and we are set, not ideal but the squad should be sufficient

It's been said time and again on these boards - if Carrick doesn't play, we're utterly screwed.
Obviously. And on top of that it's laughable that Anderson and Cleverley should be first and second choice respectively for one of the elite clubs in Europe. Those two should thank their stars we've sat on our arses for so long giving them a free run in such a big team. That's not to mention a 40 year old and centre back playing so much there as well. The whole situation is a mess.

Personally I would overhaul the whole damn thing. Giggs and Jones shouldn't be considered options unless we have an injury crisis and I'd have cleverly or Anderson as 4th choice. A club of this standing should be having two quality midfielders in addition to Carrick. Then after that your can play around with the likes of Cleverley, Giggs and co.

I wonder if we have deviated from this:
"We've been doing that [planning for next season] for a while. Your scouting goes on for the full season, actually sometimes two seasons when you maybe monitor a younger player. You want to see how he does the next season. That is the process we go through. We've got some ideas where we’re going and hopefully we can conclude them.
We'll look at one or two bodies to come in".

What could the best outcome be for us in the remaining days of the window? Getting Fellaini, keeping hold of Rooney and beating Chelsea should mean that we will be ending these underwhelming months on a high note. Just can't wait for the next 10 days to be over so that we can get on with the proper stuff.

Well we have to get cover for carrick so whilst I'm not keen on fellaini, I'd be less keen on getting no one. Fellaini in, plus zaha in fairness and keeping nani and Rooney would be a decent summer for me.

How is the amount of money spent embarrassing? If we got Fabregas and Fellaini for a combined 30m it'd still be embarrassing since Southampton would still have spent more?

That doesn't even make sense because its not even likely to happen. How is the amount of money spent embarrassing? Lets see, we haven't spent any. We made laughable bids for Fabregas and the two Everton players.

Someone earlier this summer was saying we were going the Madrid way of signing players. Going public and all that. Fact is Madrid atleast make teams think with their bids. If we put a £45m bid for Fabregas, I do think we would have given Barca something to think about.

My point really is that the amount of money spent is irrelevant. The only relevant factor is the lack of incoming CMs. Southampton could spend 100m for all I care as long as we get what is needed. That's the important thing here.

Also, we only went public with the Fabregas bid. Learned a lesson there I suspect since the Baines+Fellaini bid was made public by Everton. This suggests we've possibly bid for other players already. Obviously not bid enough though.

The amount of money spent is irrelevant.

What was a better deal - 6,5 mil for Hernandez or 35 mil for Andy Carroll?

I think i know the answer.

Another thing is doing business for the sake of bying players.

Providing that we get two midfielders this year and keep the players we have I will be more than happy to go 2-3 summers without any additions.

Don't worry guys. My sources tell me we'll sign a midfielder before the end of this decade. Keep the faith.
