United are "Genuinely interested" in signing Neymar

There is just no way he moves in January. In fact there is just no way he moves full stop!

Can we just stop this nonsense. And the Manchester Evening News as well.

French Paper Le10Sport saying we will meet the £140m release clause.
Dunno how reliable they are though.
Would be strange if we didn't table a bid imo. He is worth more than £140m, especially considering he's still only 23.
Holy crap, man. He's just one footballer. A very good one, no doubt, but still only one!

You look at it in terms of a business investment and how much revenue they can generate for the club. They say that Ronaldo brought in more than his £80m transfer fee in his first season through shirt sales alone. Neymar would bring in millions upon millions of pounds of revenue to the club, more than £140m by a wide margin if he's anywhere near the player he currently is for Barca. Not that it's ever going to happen of course.

He is the most marketable footballer in the world at the moment I'd argue. Ahead of both Messi and Ronaldo in that respect. Would also show a huge sign of intent from us and one we can easily afford.
I've never been one to say "Oh we'll get that back in shirt sales in the first 6 months" but he would have a substantial impact on our ability to market ourselves in South America and the rest of the world as well. £140m is cheap when you consider what he will bring us and that isn't even considering his undoubted ability on the pitch.

We could buy Gundogan, Griezmann and Mahrez for that money. However, I can't see Barca selling one of their best players. I hope we sign good players instead of wasting time going for Bale, Neymar, Muller, etc.

Wrong. Madrid made £80m on shirt sales on first day alone. In total in first season they made £7bn on shirt sales due to Ronaldo, selling 200 million shirts for £35 with obviously nothing going to manufacturer who duly agreed that on top of paying the club £60m a year to be their sponsors they will also give up right to any income they could possibly make back.

It won't happen if we don't try. Why not meet the release clause and see what happens?

Use the old Muller tactic on Neymar? Why would he ever want to leave Barcelona for United. Let's be real. He is pretty much their best player now. Barcelona will not sell.

when people moan about how much footballers get paid nowadays i can't help but feel we're the most responsible.

Does anybody think this is the problem with Ed Woodward as a CEO, he wants to build the brand rather than building a team.

I know he will sell shirts, but if the team are successful it will sell shirts anyway.

Neymar - I came to Manchester for the weather and great football

Not happening !!!

Any superstar who wants to leave Spain can only come to England IMO, does Neymar look the loyal type that stays at one club for most of his career?
With the tv deal next year the tide is turning, Barca are already at financial breaking point so we will see more so called superstars join our league. Why shouldn't United position themselves in front of the line?
What's worse than United persuing impossible targets is not persuing them at all and being left behind while they join City or Chelsea

That seems to be exactly that .Show the rest of the world we are are still a force on the footballing map.

I don't mind us trying a cheeky push for neymar, as long as it's not at the expense of other reasonable targets. He should be a if it happens it happens signing, but build up a team regardless.

It's almost as if he would be in renegotiation of a new deal and would want some leverage??
that certainly couldn't be the case, could it lads?
Oh wait... nevermind.... umm Neymars coming home?!

Barcelona will have to sell if we meet the release clause and Neymar wants to move. Simple.

What I don't get is why papers print this stuff - wouldn't it be more credible to run with the headline of "neymar looks to improve his position ahead of Barcelona contract negotiations."

There are also a few things we can assume that are likely to be true in these circumstances.

1. Neymars people have approached united as a team who could theoretically buy neymar...they have done this to improve their negotiating position with barcelona
2. United know the player would prefer to stay at Barcelona and that they are being used...but they have to play ball for now just incase...(because he's a unique talent and highly marketable)
3. Negotiations fall through with Barcelona (unlikely) we then find ourselves with good deal of the work already done with neymars agent and find ourselves at the head of queue.
4...he moves to chelsea

Now sure how we'll accommodate both him and muller though. Hopefully LVG has it worked out.

Release clause currently stands at 190m, speculation is that Barca are offering him 2-3x better salary and a higher release clause. He should be earning almost same as Messi in new deal.
In any case, I seriously doubt he would move anywhere. He rejected Real even though they offered more than Barca.

I thought your wage bill was already too big.
