Unai Emery - Ex-Arsenal Manager

Well they spent a ton of money in Mustafi who was highly rated until he put on an Arsenal shirt. And they spent money on Xhaka, Elneny and now Torriera.

I didn't realize they spent 35M on Mustafi. Damn! Some scouts need to be fired.

Emery's record against Pep is abysmal. He has yet to win a single match against Pep in his managerial career. Now eleven games without a win.

Notably Emery has never beaten Mourinho either. But he has a good record against Pochettino.

The names aren't really interesting, it makes a nice story but the real information is that he only won 10 out 70 games against Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico.

Arsenal are like a mansion that once you buy you realise the roof is about to collapse.

Wenger neglected too many things in his last few seasons.

What I don't understand is why Emery keeps starting the substandard players. Guys like Bellerin, Mustafi and Xhaka. They are mediocre or in Bellerin's case massively declined.

Arsenal 11 long way short of top 4 now.

Given the state of the defending last season, why did we hire a manager whose teams are not known for their defensive records?

Then to compound that, we only bought one central defender........

Oh look it turns out that replacing a man who ran the club for decades in two months isn't easy after all. Who knew?

Emery has the look and facial expressions of a hapless loser. He should be perfect for Arsenal.

First 20 minutes were a car crash.

Much better after that. Chelsea won because they could bring a player like Hazard off the bench who was fresh and motivated.

Things he needs to do.....put Mustafi and Xhaka on the bench. Start Torreria and Lichsteiner. Play Bellerin on the right wing or something. He set up the two goals but need to keep him away from his own box as much as possible.

Thought Arsenal did really well after going 2-0 down, had plenty of chances that they fecked up too. Chelsea completely stifled them in the 2nd half though, not a single attempt on target from Arsenal.

Another good example that you don't need half a dozen transfer windows to implement a system.

He looks like the joker with no makeup but at least he seems to have a positive approach to the game unlike Moyesinho. Arsenal look really good going forward. They won't finish top 4 though so it won't matter in the end however if they invested big and he would sign some class players to improve their team then it could go a long way with the way they are playing right now. Everyone knows however that in football things can go bad real quick Conte for example won the league comfortably his first year then the following season they looked disastrous. I would wait till the season is over before overhyping this joker with no make up look alike.

If Emery wins a trophy before Klopp and Poch, they will both look like muppets.

I personally like him since Valencia and Sevilla. Don't know if it will workout to win major titles but they look more focused and oriented to their goals. And to think we have to play them Thursday with Peseiro as manager.

Klopp especially. Poch has never really won anything, but Klopp has, plus he's invested more than both Spurs & Arsenal combined in recent years as far as I know.

Whatever the case, Emery is doing really damn well so far, so credit to him & Arsenal.

We were unconvincing but very lucky for a while. The quality of our play has picked up significantly in the last couple matches so the big question is whether we can sustain it.

Emery has been a bit afraid to play Auba, Laca, Iwobi, and Ozil together - not a lot of wing defense or midfield control with that quartet - but I hope he does it more.

First ten game win streak since 07, this post aged well

Or maybe, just maybe it's just a matter of getting a good replacement instead of past it managers?

If you check the timing it was posted at half time two games in to a season as a response to those blaming him for Arsenal being shit.

I'm surprised that their results have improved so dramatically so quickly, but I was advocating not forming snap judgements and writing Arsenal off based on a ropey game and a half.

Why has he been able to get it right in months, while the "serial winner" Mourinho needs 3+ seasons?

Also tbf his first 2 games were against City and away to Chelsea. And if anything I had a better opinion of arsenal after those 2 losses than I did before (with regards to how theyll do this season).

Knows how he wants to play and doing it. Their insistence on passing it out from the back is also admirable.

Why? It's us, Spurs or Arsenal for the 4th spot and they've looked the best, just about, so far.
They're definitely in with a great chance.

True, City were good value for their win, but the Chelsea game was unlucky. A lot of missed chances, including Auba uncharacteristically missing two tap-ins. A draw would have been a fair result.

Some luck involved, but there’s a clear sense of structure and positive implementation to how he wants the team to play.

Yeah it was a tough start to be fair. He’s got them looking good since that initial run though, well done to him.

Were Arsenal crowned Premier League winners tonight? (As that's certainly the aim for Arsenal is it not?)

When Arsenal inevitably finish outside the top 4 again this season remind me what exactly it is that Emery has got right?

Spurs have proven constancy over the last 3 years, if Arsenal or anyone else gets top 4 it'll be because Chelsea suddenly have a mare

I'm not so sold on Spurs this season but we'll see.

The realistic aim for arsenal is securing top 4, don't think anyones expecting them to win the league.

But they're currently much closer to it than we are! I can't see the top 4 being any different to what it is currently, by season end.
