I'm hindu and keep getting forwarded WhatsApp videos about how we all need to vote Borris to save India. Its so fecking stupid and I know so many Indians are falling for it. 4-5 WhatsApp groups have forwarded it to me, and it's all groups with distant aunts and uncles

Why will Boris save India?

What time do polling stations stay open until generally? For the first time in a long time u am voting labour, it's time to rid the rot from parliament.

If you are voting labour, then unfortunately the polling stations have closed:drool:

If you are voting anyone else, then it’s 10pm!

Yeah this is all about winning and losing. Just a big game.
It isn’t a game. But it is totally about winning and losing. Because if you don’t win you can’t change things. When are you lot going to realise that, and I mean really get it?

I agree that my examples were hyperbolic in nature, but it served a point: While the typical right-wing policies are far from as extreme as portrayed in my post, over time their policies create a convergence towards a less functioning and unsafe society were the differences between the rich and the rest increases. The UK will follow the US's trajectory if they get another term with the Conservatives and more capitalistic/right-wing decisions/rulings.

The other parties have their faults as well, and there are no ideal candidate, but there are some that are worse than others from a long term society as a whole standpoint.
I agree with a lot of that.
Tbh much as I desperately don't want Johnson to win, I struggle to back JC, who has zero concept of finance and costings, hence my reluctant first ever LibDem vote.

So you are advocating to lie as much as possible and play dirty in order to get in? Is that the state of the politics you actually want to see?

It's the children in the poor families who are going to lose, hope you feel better.

I am angry that Labour has persisted with a losing leadership way past time. This is on Labour, not me.

Eh? Are you mad? Where did I say any of that?

They already do pay. But I’d argue you have to make it about their self interest rather than it being about a moral duty. At the moment you have a lot of people who don’t really pay very much for public services thru tax arguing those who do, are evil for not paying more. I don’t see how that is a winning argument.
Those with the biggest incomes already contribute more to tax than any other bracket
You do realise the tax burden has been moving from the poor to the rich for decades? They pay a higher proportion than ever before? Of course not, it doesn't fit the left wing narrative.

Yes of course those earning the highest pay the most, would you have it the other way around?

Also, the country is in an absolute state, do we keep the status quo and carry on as we are? Someone somewhere is going to have to pay more, would you rather that be the lowest income or the highest?

Good, we are on the same page more or less.
I hypothesise that in most countries with more than two parties, most young people vote for those they disagree/dislike with the least due to the lack of good political platforms. Most politicians are incompetent and inexperienced in regards to long term macroeconomic effects, practicality, long term thinking when evaluating decisions, objectivity over personal preference etc.

SO...

Is anyone else excited by Election Day? Putting everything aside (inc party loyalities), who is looking forward to the exit poll in less than 12 hours?

I usually make it to about 2/3am, get a couple of hours sleep and up about 6 for confirmation (pretty much) of the result.

Does anyone stay up through the night? Or do people just find out the result tomorrow am?

I had a migraine over the weekend because of stress, mostly caused by work. High caseloads, increasingly tougher decisions... I've woken up at nights thinking about people on my caseload and the inevitable conversations I have to have with them about transport and reducing services.

It's pretty admirable to take a stand against the misery these bastards have inflicted on people. I tend to be someone who just gives in to despair, and that's no help at all. Respect to you.

Tend to stay up until the result looks pretty clear then go to bed weeping and shouting at how much I hate this country.

It's absolutely criminal what has happened to public services in the UK, hope change is coming.

The trouble I have is Labour at local level for me is fairly good as they tend to get things done that need doing for the better of the people. The only problem I have is as the Labour ladder goes higher I don't like what I see. Personally I would find it difficult to trust Corbyn to run the country with some of the people he surrounds himself with. On the other hand I've never voted Tory but I can see why working class people are tempted to vote for them as they trust them more to deliver Brexit.

Oh those poor dears..

Good luck fellow Brits. Choose the future of your country wisely, you’re a truly great European nation and I hope you remain a champion in quality of life, public

Impressed by the number of young people I am seeing. Get these feckers out.

All these pictures of queues in polling stations seem to be in safe London seats unless I'm completely mistaken.

Correct my understanding but is the young vote gonna make a huge huge difference anyway seeing as it's all in labour safe zones

Well I'd guess the youth is quite spread across the UK and longer lines in many safe Labour seats could indicate higher turnout all around the country? Or Labour is just trying to find any dose of optimism they can. One thing I give them - they really are in it to win it and they don't take any "you don't stand a chance" for an answer.
