UEFA Super Cup

Stacking up these European cups now Chelsea no matter how insignificant some people see them it has to be said..

Probably win the CWC for the first time in December against Al-Ahly or whoever too.
It’s the European community shield. A European trophy but I don’t think it does anything for their stature.

Just makes it sweeter when he does well and they can't enjoy it

I think everyone would enjoy a European title. It is just missing out due to a large degree on poor management which is the cause for frustration.

It is not that we can't do well against big teams because we set up well in the league for them and when it matters not very much we perform well against other top teams. Just in the cups we bottle it by silly calls from the manager in some of the biggest moments. Failure against a better side we can accept, but when the reason for the loss is more due to our manager than anything else it is frustrating.

Only? Didn't Bruno choose to let them go first?

Yes that was stupid too. Though you'd assume the coaches should have told him what to go for.

The keeper problem was still the biggest issue though. De Gea simply is terrible at them.

Mount's was top class, Rudiger with a straight run up with the keeper standing still watching it go to his right. Mount is quite a continental player in my view, Rudiger an erratic fighter defender, I guess the pens characterised that too.

I was expecting Rudi to absolutely lash it to be honest. Glad he didn't though, his power shots don't usually end up near the goal.

They got a chance to win this European trophy by winning Champions fecking League, though. It's not like they won the lottery to play in the Super Cup.

Tuchel admitting in his post match interview that Kepa is better at pens than Mendy, you could see it as well with the way he had the guts to go up to the penalty takers which DDG just would shy away from ever doing and that's the most gutting

Tuchel said that Kepa is the pen keeper and has been since he took over.

And the winner of the PL/FA cup plays in the CS, not a lottery win either. It’s slightly more prestigious as an English team isn’t in it every year.

I've changed my mind on this. You must all refer to Chelsea as "Super European Champions League winners".

God forbid we win the World Club cup. I'll be even more unbearable.

You already are and now we also won't hear the end of it from Humphrey, Aluko & Cole tonight either, poor Rio stuck there

Ole himself knows he is not as good as Tuchel who is not a brilliant manager to begin with. We have to accept the fact that Ole is staying for many years and hope by adding more and more quality players we close the gap between our team and our rivals who have better managers. I have faith in the squad.

We have the squad to win the league and we can do it with Ole as an outsider, but still the gap in manager is why City are favorites and not us. If we change the manager we would be favorites at least after one season with Pep coaching the team.

I think our squad is slightly better than Chelseas anyway at least for a league push. I think our keepers is same level. Better central defenders and better fullbacks for us. They got better defensive midfield, but we got better attacking midfield and wingers particular if Sancho works out well. If they get Lukaku they are probably favorites to end higher than us in the league though which is annoying since we had Lukaku and let him go. Cavani is high quality though, but not as good as Lukaku.

I don't get the comparison with The Community Shield. The CS has always had the formula of an unofficial match. It always had 6 subs in comparison to the regular 3 in normal matches. It goes straight to the pens instead of extra time. It gives the feeling of a friendly alright. The UEFA Super Cup doesn't have this and doesn't play as a friendly, neither is any other Super Cup in any other country.

Just because CS doesn't count in England, doesn't mean every single Super Cup doesn't count either. Honestly pretty weird.

These are minor trophies, but they're still trophies that do count in your trophies cabinet. You get a chance to play them by winning a major trophy.

I don't want to have a go at Ole but this is simple stuff really. Every single one of us knows de gea isn't a penalty stopper.
It's a pretty easy decision when you've got De Gea in sticks - possibly one of the world's worst at saving penalties. Hopefully Ole has learnt from it.

CS doesn’t count in England??? Try telling Leicester fans that. It’s also an official honour as recognised by the FA.

It definitely counts.

Well, the whole argument of people in this thread has been since CS doesn't count in England, UEFA Super Cup also doesn't count. If you count CS as a trophy then UEFA Super Cup counts ?

Turn off the extended post match coverage of a Chelsea Super Cup win then, you nutter! Even I'm not watching now.

I 'm praying for Rio to stick one on Humphrey off camera because he is so bloody smug and needs bringing down

I've decided it counts because that means Chelsea are on course for the Sextuple, and I like saying Sextuple.

Please go away until we play each other I am still stinging from losing to these mugs in Gdansk

It's a bit late now. It's cost us a cup final.

What does it say about him as a manager when the stats are there to unequivocally proves De Gea's incompetence when it comes to penalties and he does nothing about it? It's either stubbornness or cowardice, nothing else.

The fans know De Gea isn't up to it, pundits know it and I bet secretly even De Gea's teammates knew it but the manager still did nothing.

Kepa dived the same way six times out of seven. Villarreal players noticed against De Gea about him diving the same way all the time but here they kicked it at Kepa's favoured direction four times.

Seriously, watch the shootout again.

Penalty one - dived to his right, Villarreal player shoots to his left and scores

Penalty three - dived to his left, Villarreal player shoots to his right (waited for Kepa to move) and scores

and the less said about the Villarreal reserve keeper the better.

We beat them for you, think of it that way. There's enough glory in a Super Cup win to go around.
I, for one, am happy for Chelsea (until Saturday that is). You guys deserve this trophy alone for stopping baldy and City from getting their mitts on old Big Ears.

Yes of course it does. They’re both trophies and official honours, I never said it wasn’t one.

I questioned its significance, but not whether it counts.

good on ya Rio for getting Utd into the converstion and that cheeky fecker Humphrey having the nerve to sneer at you, am i right in thinking he's a Norwich fan if so really hope we give them a pasting and he's there to witness it personally

Did he save them and did they win?

It's probably time to turn the TV off mate

Don't worry he'll be depressed af on air in May just like he was last July when they went straight back down

I would love to hear on what basis you think the current Champions League holder who turned Chelsea round from being a basket case in just 6 months is not a great manager. For me he is comfortably in the top 5 on the world.
