UEFA Champions League 18/19 Matchday 2 fixtures (2nd - 3rd October 2018)

Dunno, i think he'll get the season even if everything goes tits up and to be fair it would be unfair to put all the blame on him. Everything that was build up over the years was pretty much torn down after Hoeneß took over again. From Sammer, Reschke, Pep to Hoeneß, Kovac, Brazzo.....bunch of clowns. Nvm the team...the old (or not so old in some cases) guard is decling, but continue to start, because there are no alternatives. The new(er) players are just not up for it. The only player who showed any desire/ability/potential to take over is permanently injured (Coman).
Is Goretzka not up to it?

I read that Ziyech had a good game, too, @KirkDuyt . Ziyech is a weird one for me. I like him, but I feel like he'd be too lightweight to make the step up at one of the better teams in Europe. Do you think he has it in him, @KirkDuyt ?

Who will be available as replacement, though? Bring Heynckes out of retirement again? Let the old man rest, please, he earned it.

Maybe you can try the Leipzig model? Have your DoF do the coaching. Brazzo to the rescue! :D

It looks the Champions League is Juventus to lose atm. Maybe only Liverpool and P.S.G. can threaten them. City, Barca, Real and Bayern are all struggling.

It is silly to make any predictions based on 1-2 games in the group stage. Real struggled in the group last season too. And why mention PSG when they looked so lazy and lost vs Liverpool?

Up untill yesterday I had the exact same opinion on Ziyech. Talented guy, but too small for the big leagues. He also tends to let his head hang when times are tough and was even jeered by Ajax fans sometimes last year for it. Yesterday kinda shook my notion of him though. He was truly amazing, probably the best man on the pitch.

Shame he decided to chose Morroco over us. Doubly so, because he chose Holland initially got injured and than was passed over by Danny Blind. This insulted him, so he decided to go for Morroco anyway.

Feck you Daley's dad :(

Yeah, I thought I remembered reading your opinion on him in a Ajax/Dutch league related thread. Thanks for the reply!

Hearing about him and Blind both having good games makes me want to watch it, but I doubt I'll have the time today.

It's only fair that you referred to Danny Blind as Daley's dad. After all, Daley was clearly the better player [/fanboy] :wenger:

How many do we think PSG will put past Red Star? I’m going for 5-0.

We are in great shape. Nine wins in nine games. The way we shoved Napoli away at the weekend after some initial problems, the way we survived in Valencia despite an early red card and the way we completely outplayed YBB yesterday was quite impressive. We finally played like a big team in the group stages, while in previous years the group stage was often a struggle even against opponents that on paper were far inferior. But yesterday the gulf in quality was perfectly transferred from paper onto the pitch. Our squad depth is great, too, we can easily change around a handful of players without losing much quality. So everyone stays fresh and we can always introduce new threats from the bench.

Things are looking good, but apart from the Valencia game away with ten men for an hour, we have not played any difficult away games yet. Looking forward to the match at Old Trafford. United seems to be in a bad phase, but I am sure the players will raise their game for a big CL match.

Downtown Porto is full of turks wearing orange. Feels like we’ve been invaded.

Turkish fans get a lot of crap as they often take things too far but they really have to be some of the best around

Do or die for PSV tonight. Inter is their rival for 3rd place in the group I think. Hope they can beat them at home. Though with Icardi up front, I'm not hopeful.

Just found that Spurs have no Eriksen or Alli today. Can't see them doing much danger to Barca then. Valverde you lucky bastard.

No. He has never shown anything for Schalke (or Bayern) that convinces me, that he has the quality to become a starter. The cherry on top is, that he is injury prone as feck.

If he is being played as a LWB, like he was against Augsburg, he will obviously not be up for it.

I think Klopp might rotate a bit tonight with City coming up on Sunday.

Something like Alisson; Clyne, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Wijanldum, Keita; Firmino, Shaqiri, Sturridge possibly?

I think Salah should play as he needs to play himself into some form, but I'd like to see Sturridge play.

On the subject of rotating. What's more important to most Liverpool fans (for as far as you can speak for all of em), winning the CL or winning the league? Obviously the CL has more prestige, but somehow I suspect you'd rather win the league. So, do you? :)

Winning the league by a country mile. It's the holy grail.

I've seen us win everything else and I want to get that website shut down. The one with the timer showing how long it's been since we last won it.

Is it?

United's treble in 99 was the craziest ride ever, just madness.

League won on the last day of the season. FA Cup semi final, down to 10 men, big Peter saves a pen and Giggs dribbles from the half way line to score an incredible goal to win it, CL Final 0-1 until injury time and won it 2-1.

Can't be beaten IMO.

Ah assumed 76 was your birth year :) obvious then that you prefer the league.

The league. And by some distance, too.

No I meant that for Liverpool fans it's become the holy grail because it's been so long since we won it.

Nah just a random number I picked haha.

Impeccable timing.

No Vertonghen either … it's not ideal, but hey ho.

We drew with Barca in the Uefa Youth League … and tbh I'd settle for the same result tonight.
