Being impartial, I'd probably have Gibbs and azpilicueta over evra. Your point stands though, he's still a competent left back. Sort of.
Agreed. Although a rested and judiciously used Evra is imo as good as any of those names. Which is why Shaw will be a brilliant buy I feel.

Given the Rooney contract speculation when he first mentioned his dickie bird, I presume that's what he's referring to.

It's a great show of intent if Rooney signs with all the uncertainty surrounding the club. We just need to get to the summer and regroup now.

Top 4 first choice left-backs - Gibbs, Azpilicueta, Enrique, Clichy.

Ignoring age, I'm not sure I'd swap Evra for any. Ignoring that he's a legend and a United player, completely based on match performance/influence.

In fairness though that's only half the story.

Actual top 4:
Arsenal - Gibbs, Monreal
Chelsea - Azpilicueta, Cole
Liverpool - Enrique, Cissohoko, Flanagan
City - Kolarov (I'd argue he's first choice not Clichy), Clichy

All of them lot get rotated about and play games, I can only remember Buttner starting once in the league all season, Evra basically plays every other game. I wouldn't mind Evra as a squad player but he plays for too much which is never good as it risks burnout and he does seem to get affected by it. If we had some competition for him it'd be much more beneficial as it is with the teams above.

it s very difficult for a modern fullback to play all the games nowadays - you need 4 lungs.

I agree, that's where we fall down at fullback. In particular left back.

At right back we've played Rafael, Jones, Smalling and Valencia. Regardless of their performances they've all played there and have been welcome to a rest. It's to much work to get up and down a field. Especially at Evra's age. I think he's quite lazy but then at the same time there's just the chance he physically can't do it every game anymore.

I was probably in a minority but I was disappointed we didn't sign Baines in the summer. I personally think he's better than Evra and provides much more of an outlet in terms of attacking play and does seem to be capable of playing the majority of games. Judging by Evra's performances I ccan't say the same for him anymore.

He reported Mourinho would listen to offers for Mata as early as July last year, which he got major abuse for. Like wise first to report he wanted to bring Matic back to Chelsea. He reported Baines' new contract at Everton weeks before it was announced, like he did in the summer with Nani. Was also first to report City's approach of pellegrini, Ronaldo's new Madrid contract, Madrid being prepared to break the world record fee for Bale. So on and so forth.

So, weeks before the contract was announced, he reports on goal.com that Moyes has sanctioned a new contract for Nani. Must've been a lucky guess since it's goal.com

He posts his articles to whoever pays him for them. All his goal articles could just as easily be in the Sunday Times, who he also writes for. Doesn't effect the reliability of the content.

A wum employed by the Sunday Times. Seems legit.

Who gives a shit if he uses Sulia. Follow the link to the Times website and read the article from there if you're that arsed.

Do you think he cares that you positively fawning over him and posting his life works on an internet forum? Very strange. As others have said, Goal.com and the Sun should tell you all you need to know.

Who gives a shit about anyone's opinion on an internet forum, really? We're all just wasting our time..

Might want to actually follow his work before talking bollocks.

Most tweets turn out to be not accurate and yet are still discussed here. The posters can decide for themselves what is legit and not.

Makes you wonder what the future plans are Moyes has told him about to persuade him to sign (if he indeed does).

Could see some Transfer muppets literally EXPLODE (Danny Devito voice)

Or it could just be that Chelsea and the like are no longer interested...

"David, our main right winger has lots of speed but no end product, what do we do?"

Now, Moyes is slowly losing me.

BUT I refuse to believe he is looking at Ashley Young in training and thinking to himself "Hmmm, how can I make him more consistent ? I know, I'll buy Aaron Lennon instead"

Nani: "hi boss"

"Who are you ?"

This would be taking the whole 'like for like substitution' thing to a whole new level. A shitty, shitty, shitty level.

I disagree, Young's been poor since arrival, but if you question his talent, that's daft, it's merely the fact he can't replicate it often, on his day, we've all seen Young drift inside, beat a man and score a screamer, like Nani... I'm not comparing Nani/Young, but I do think Young is a better player at Lennon.

I was actually thinking about Valencia. But for what it's worth I rate Young even less than him.

Lennon wouldn't even be an upgrade on Young. If Moyes is seriously considering signing him the Glazer's shouldn't give him a penny more to spend.

Really? That's interesting, so you'd say Lennon=Valencia and both > Young?
Well, I'd say Valencia > Lennon/Young. Based on ability, rather than smashing-it-point-blank-into-a-full-back's-legs form.

Lennon is usually better than both, but hes been poor this season too so would obviously be a ridiculous target

Fair enough, strange as I'd have had Valencia at the bottom of the 3  Although, haven't seen much of Lennon of late, but either way I doubt there's any reality to it, Moyes has repeated time again 'we're after the best' etc, I can't see how even he can believe Lennon is "very good", let alone some of the best..

@Jaybezia

Have you ever wondered why you haven't seen much of lennon lately. Firstly because he is injury prone and secondly because he is c**p.

Reading that rumour was the first time that I have ever felt genuine anger towards Moyes!! It bubbled up and then died down when I realised that it just can't be true!!!

It can't be true can it?!?

So, we're making sure that Lennon never torments Evra again, eh? ;)
Seriously though, I wonder if some transfers rumours are spread with a view to winding-up United fans about Moyes.

I genuinely think some rumours are leaked to gauge fan's reaction before making any move... Although Fellaini's signing probably debunks that.

You didn't see the previous rumours then? We've been linked to all sorts of players, I'd take it with a pinch of salt..

You could say then, we've already a Lennon, in Nani  Although, we don't know if he's actually injured or not..

I can honestly say, I don't doubt for a second Moyes considers him to be an elite player, and after his continual efforts to let the world know we only intend on signing the best, I think he'd make himself look rather fecking stupid by then purchasing Aron Lennon

Is Lennon going to be out of contract or something?

Also: The way that tweet is phrased 'David Moyes to solve Man United's problems by signing Aaron Lennon etc etc' makes it read like a WUM. As if merely signing Lennon would solve all our problems...sheesh.

@Jaybezia
That that rumour was the first time that I have ever felt genuine anger towards Moyes!!

Same here.

I thought he needed time when we were trounced by Man City. I put it down to the transition when we were embarrassed at home by Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham, Swansea and West Brom. When we capitulated to Olympiakos, I said it was because some senior players were no longer committed enough, and that we'd be right once he's built his own side.

But this brief, unsubstantiated, throw away Twitter transfer rumour is the straw that's finally broke the camel's back.

Moyes Out!

No way is Valencia top on that criteria. He has next to no 'ability' - he's an athlete. Ashley Young is a far, far superior footballer in terms of ability, and can do almost everything with a ball to a higher level than Valencia. He just isn't as fast or strong. He has a better shot, pass, cross, dribble than him though.
