A lot of people laughing at Liverpool for the Lambert bid but he has shown to be a very good striker and wouldn't be a bad plan B.

Just because he's big and English doesn't mean he's Grant Holt.

Fantastic free kick and penalty kick taker.
Ability to drift wide and cross well.
Link up play is good.
Good technical ability and ball control.
Good aerial threat.
Proven PL goal scorer.

He is far from an oaf and is quite an intelligent player. He isn't world class but he doesn't have to be if he fits the system well. Sturridge/Suarez could very easily play off and around him and he will find them with passes. The over rated player from the Southampton team IMO is Rodriguez who benefits most off of Lallana and Lambert.

Think it is a similar sort of signing, to when we bought Teddy Sheringham.

Yeah I agree. It's just his age that is the real issue for Liverpool. Depending on how much they have to pay and whether or not it relates to the Lallana transfer also.

Can't find anything on the last two pages, but it seems that David Villa is off to the MLS for the new NYC FC. Kind of odd, must have been offered massive wages. Another Athletico player linked with a move away

Even with Suarez they won't make the top 4 next season. United is better than Liverpool when you take out David Moyes from the equation.

That's yet to be seen. Moyes wasn't the reason Evra was a liability, or that Vidic was injured or getting himself sent off, etc etc.

As it stands - they have a better midfield, the best forward partnership in the league and a comparable defence. Most importantly however is they have stability and a game-plan that the players have had a few years to work on.

Evra has been declining for a while and Vidic has also been picking up injuries since the initial Basel injury. Liverpool have stability and a better forward partnership at the moment, I agree. However, our forwards are capable of getting around 70 goals in the league and we do have talented CB's when we use them correctly (ie, not at fullback). We also signed Fellaini who solved nothing and contributed very little. We still have a lot of experience despite Rio and Vidic leaving.

We have to get this window right. If we do, I'm pretty sure we'll over take Liverpool.

Seems to be lauded as a great signing, which I don't agree with. For me it is very underwhelming. If they want to up their game they should be adding to the squad with more world class players. Keep up the healthy competition. Put it this way, how would you feel if we got rid of Hernandez and signed Ricky Lambert? Most would be disappointed. If Liverpool really believe they're in the same league as United, City, Chelsea, then they need to step up the signings, or else last season's almost success won't happen for them.

Yeah I don't understand all the laughing. They've got a reliable, international experienced striker for a tiny fee. It's a bonus he's a fan of the club, always nice to have fans playing for your club. Is a genuine plan B option for Liverpool and miles ahead of Carroll (lazy comparison just because they can both head the ball) as a footballer. Anyone who watches Lambert play can see him dropping off, drifting into channels, having the ball played into his feet and bringing other people into play.
Over the last 5 years Lambert has taken every step up in his stride. I think he'd do the same with CL football. He won't be pulling up any trees but gives them a great third option behind Sturridge and Suarez and is an upgrade on any option they currently have there. Good business for Liverpool.

But Liverpool aren't getting rid of a Hernandez are they. They're getting rid of an Aspas. Whatever way you look at it, it's an upgrade on what they currently have.

It's a good signing considering that they are unlikely to sign better options than Suarez and Sturridge this summer, but there's little depth beyond those two. I imagine he will be a squad player, and he's certainly good enough for that.

The scousers have done well there, great value for an international striker.

He's only had 4 caps, not really a 'proper' international striker.

I do think it's a good signing though. Not one that worries me but a good move nonetheless.

Yeah, it's a decent signing.

Loves the club, offers something completely different and is in the best spell of his career. They were never going to sign a top quality striker given that they couldn't be guaranteed regular football. They need a reliable option who won't mind starting most games on the bench. Lambert ticks all the boxes.

We have no choice of signing Koke if Barcelona are interested. Fack.

I hear Aguero wants a move to Barcelona, that would be great.

Why not? Fabregas is being heavily critisized there so he will be cautious. On the other hand if they get koke we might be able to get cesc

Hasn't Xavi already called him his heir or something? I think it was for the national team, but you see the level of faith they have in him. They already lost the best young Spanish midfield talent out in Thiago, they'd be nuts to not secure Koke if he's available.

Koke has never struck me as the Xavi type at all, from the limited amount I've seen him. Isn't he more of a direct player than suits Barca's style?

Aye, he isn't, really. But in terms of Barcelona, he'd definitely offer them the intensity and impetus their now lethargic midfield possesses. Xavi was a lot more like Koke in his younger days though, perhaps that's where the idea comes from?

He's ridiculously versatile, I'm sure he'd slot in quite well into most systems, including Barca's. If they sign him they're getting one hell of a player who could play at the top level for a decade.

No point even us bidding for Koke if Barca have as well. Would be great if it meant Fabregas became available though...

Who the feck are sport witness and why are they suddenly reliable?
The linked article is just an article from Sports Witness telling non-Spanish speakers what is being said in the Spanish press regarding Koke to United. No idea if any of the papers they are referencing are reliable however.

To be fair, Sport Witness just round up stories in the media and put them in context. I quite enjoy reading their posts/articles because they write off several claims by the press as pure BS. At least, that's been my experience with them.
