I don't see why we wouldn't sell him, obviously we don't want to and he is a class player I would hate to see leave and so would the fans but I could see the board selling him.

And there is the final proof, SolidState thinks its a goer ergo its absolute bollocks
Huh? I just could see the board selling, he'll most likely go nuts once he knows Barca want him. His wages would have to be pretty damn high though.

He was an Oviedo/,Madrid supporter growing up. He has just joined a big club with which he seems besotted and he has a good mate in DeGea there. Not to mention the fact LvG wouldnt get rid of a player of his talents without working with him first. Its a non starter. Its just people looking for square pegs because they think LvG can only play with 433

Well, the problem with Mata, and Rooney aswell is, they don't fit the system Van Gaal wants to play.

I don't want them sold, but try making a mock 433 formation with Rooney or Mata....Out wide isn't really a position they are effective in, but thats where they'd fit in

Squad depth, someone can sit on the bench.

I'm sure they are not but we are better than Arsenal and Liverpool IMO it's ridiculous how many in this forum are under rating our squad after years of domination and then one disaster of a season.

We're only better than Arsenal in net and up front and we're only better than Liverpool in terms of squad depth.

Simple fact is that we have too many extremely average players who were motivated by Sir Alex and too much players who have gone past their peak and are on a serious slide (Carrick is a major one).

That article is so ridiculous it's beyond words. Aside from Van Gaal OBVIOUSLY wanting Rooney behind RVP, Barca can't afford anything like that sort of offer until they've brought in some significant transfer revenue.

Would anyone take a mata/fabregas swap?

No.

Obviously there's not much between them, but Mata has been playing top level Premiership football for the last 3 years whereas Fabregas has been struggling (for large periods) in an inferior league.

Straight swapping Fabregas for Mata? Not for me. Mata is a player around which we should build our team imo. He's only 25(26?) still.

 It's almost as if you didn't manage to catch what was on television last night.

No we are better than Liverpool in more than squad Suraz Henderson (starting 11) and Sterling squad would improve us but who else would you take genuinely. You cite Carrick but Liverpool midfield has an average Joe Allan and Lucas and then an ageing Gerrard not exactly brilliant. I'd take McCarthy over any them now and he's apparently our worse target. Coutino over Kagawa or Mata? Evra or Flannigan Johnston or Rafael? Centre backs are an area both teams are wanting. Sturrage or Welbeck? Mingolet or DDG? No we are bit ahead of Liverpool but we were devoid of confidence this season and it showed but the season before we were about 30 points ahead of them and next season I'd expect us to be a good 10 points above them.

Premier League is the better league, nothing else doesn't matter. Even if four Spanish teams go on semi of UCL, and the other three teams make the semi of Europa, still EPL is superior to everything else. You know, the might Blackburn and the great West Ham, combined with the elegance of West Ham, what a league!

The other thing is that Fabregas who struggled on an inferior league was the best midfielder on EPL for quite a few years.

No Luke Shaw then?
I'd be okay with that. If Southampton are twiddling their thumbs when we've offered £27m, they can feck off. We've got other options who are just as talented such as Blind who will probably cost no more than £10m.

32m for a 30 year old midfielders? Schweinsteiger is definitely not worth that money. Anyway it s the silly season, isn't it:)

No Luke Shaw then?

Think Blind is mainly seen as a defensive midfielder these days. He's been playing there all season for Ajax and he played there for Holland against Ecuador. I really like the little I've seen of him. Nothing fancy but very efficient and intelligent.

Barcelona paper Mundo Deportivo saying if Cesc leaves Barcelona will move for Ander Herrera.

Amazing. Herrera's good enough to be considered by Barcelona but we snubbed him for Fellaini...

Not sure if thats's the case but if Herrera is good enough for Barca, he is good enough for us. But saying that though, LVG has a plan with a set of players and herrera might not fit in.

Herrera most definitely would fit the style of play LvG wants to play. Much more so than Cesc or Kroos.

Do keep us informed with more of this inside information.

Poor Juan. 4 different managers in the space of just 1 year, and none of them have really rated him.

In all seriousness, in my view we should be looking to build the new side around him.

Yup it would be a massive mistake to sell him. Even in his first few months here he's shown what he's capable of especially in the #10 role. Top player and top guy, we should be focusing our team around a Mata-RvP partnership imo.

I was hoping we would go back in for Herrera but it was always unlikely.

What do you base this on?
Maybe 'much more so' was over the top, but he has definitely proven that he is capable of playing as any of the three in a three man midfield, he is defensively stronger than the two. Kroos and Fabregas definitely have the edge in passing abilities, though Ander's is hardly to be sniffed at. He also is very composed under pressure and with his back toward goal, which sort of goes with how he is a lot more mobile/agile than the two. LvG had worked with Kroos in the past and didn't feel he was defensively disciplined enough... Maybe that has changed, I don't know. Also, the parallels between the Bilbao side which emulate the tactics Bielsa put down which in effect are tactics LvG uses are obvious. I'd also add that Cesc does look somewhat out of sync playing possession based football, which is something LvG is gigantic advocate of and will most likely attempt to play.
This doesn't mean he is better than the two, of course, but like van Gaal states himself - it is not the best 11 individuals, it is the best for the system.

Talking out your arse.

Where has LVG stated he doesn't rate Mata.
