Right, so Van Gaal can't possibly know enough about McCarthy but a Caftard does. Ok.
It's quite possible that I've watch more games with him involved than van gaal has, yes. Regardless, we should be looking for better anyway.

The squad that won the league will be almost a couple of years older now. Rio and Vidic, when fit, played a big part. They're gone. Evra has more miles on the clock now. Likewise Carrick, who looked shaky last season. Cleverley looks to have taken a step back. We relied heavily on RvP every other week to dig us out. I don't know, it's not nearly as bad as it's being made out, but I think the current squad is substantially weaker than back then. For me Fellaini adds almost nothing and Mata, brilliant player though he is, hasn't nailed down a position yet.

The way I'd put it, that team was brilliantly resilient and overperformed. I don't see that being possible with this squad. A few really good players would perk the rest up and also bring back a bit of the fear factor. As things stand teams know we're vulnerable.

Brophs on the flip side DDG is much improved our younger players have more experience Rafael, Smalling Jones Welbeck and the emergence of Adnan.

So would I be right in saying it appears Moyes was happy to leak his targets to the press, whereas LVG has different targets and appears less inclined to share them with the media?

If that's all that's happened, why is everyone on the verge of Armageddon?
I am happy if we aren't going to be so open with our transfer dealing.

United need good players, which McCarthy is. As is Schneiderlin. As are, say, Barkley or Herrera. United can't feck around this summer, a World Cup summer, chasing big time players they have no chance of getting, especially without Europe to offer. Any of those 4 would improve United enough to get them back into the Top 4 and challenging because those 4 are still very young and could become much better under LvG's tutelage.

True. But Rafael's coming off a poor, injury-ravaged season. Likewise Smalling and Jones. Adnan was the bright spot, along with DDG. If LVG can get them playing we'll be in the mix. If it's more of the same I think we'll do well to make the CL.

I don't disagree about us not being wonderful Brophs. Just I think Liverpool bottled their chance and Arsenal aren't that great either. And with Liverpool playing extra games (champs league FA Carling cup) their squad will struggle unless they really spend big.

All of that is nothing but speculation. Why do people believe what the hear on twitter is true - rather than what some Journo or worse, done random wind up merchant puts out there?

It's less than two weeks since the end if the season. The manager was appointed last week. Why do you expect transfers to be done in a couple of days?

People really need to get a grip.
I don't always believe twitter but all I'm saying is based on the Fabregas embarrassment last season we shouldn't go in for him because there is only 1 team he would play for in the PL which is Arsenal IMHO.

Is it harsh of me to say that there's too much "discussion" going on in this thread at the moment? I can see a lot of posts that really don't need to be in here and actually have threads for that topic-chatter.

One tweet in the last page and a half and that was from Howard fecking Nurse.

I'd be ecstatic if you offered me Herrera & McCarthy right now. Ideal for LVG's style, good on the ball, young & eager to be coached and huge upside. And most of all, gettable.

Yeah, I agree. The "Tweets Only" thread was great but no fecker posts on it anymore meaning I ha to subscribe to this shitfest.

Yet we persist in discussion of that very post...

Those who can be bothered to post tweets do so to discuss them. If people can't discuss tweets then they can't be arsed to post them in the first place hence why the other thread has nowt doing.

If I just wanted to see just tweets and couldn't be arsed contributing then i'd set up a list on Twitter of the respectable journos and just read them there. Simple solution.

No because then you'd have to filter through all non United related news - and spend all day on twitter.

Too much drivel in this thread.

So because we didn't get Fabregas last year no player wants to join us?

They must have had a positive response from his agent or no bid would have been made. Barca changed their manager and the situation changed - so he stayed. Big deal.

And unless you know Fabregas you are talking out of your backside. He might very well prefer Arsenal - but he might also be more than willing to come here and be central to a rebuild with a top manager and double his wages.

Bottom line - we are two weeks into the summer in a World Cup year and have had a manager officially appointed for less than a week.

This is not Football Manager - give the manager a chance.

I keep a Twitter list of the people I tend to post in here as part of my main account. If I can do that anyone can. Or you can just follow a dedicated United gossip account on Twitter that only retweets the halfways reliable Utd gossip. Easy.

There's a reason why the Tweets only thread dies a death and the discussion one doesn't. It's logical.

Well, the problem with Mata, and Rooney aswell is, they don't fit the system Van Gaal wants to play.

I don't want them sold, but try making a mock 433 formation with Rooney or Mata....Out wide isn't really a position they are effective in, but thats where they'd fit in

Sack Louis. Sell Mata. Oh wait..

Luis out, Balo in, could be comical.

The Harry QPR story looks like lazy journalism just linking him to all the ex West Ham youth's he had. Rio for QPR though, could be.

Got a feeling the journo's feel whacked from this weeks Kroos, Cesc & Shaw on /off schenanigans that they are making up any crap, where as others can't be bothered and having a w/e off United.

If there was any more proof to not believe the absolute bollocks these papers write - there we have it kids. Louis van Gaal wants to get rid of Juan Mata. Probably best to not follow any further tabloid tripe and wait until we see a player holding our shirt with his name on it.

I highly doubt Barca even have 40 mil to spend this season without selling some players first and if they do then I doubt they would pay 40 mil for Mata when they need to buy a Xavi replacement and cb first.

Mata would suit them, but I just hope this never happens.
