A DOF is a good idea, but it would mean the club having to pay another salary. Why pay someone else when SuperEd can do it all?

Need to think bigger picture - Nani is represented by Mendes. Larger fee for Nani means larger cut for Mendes who just happens to be an agent we like to do business with.
The days of contract extensions being because the club wanted to keep the player are long gone.

Not really. Last year Roma told us to feck off when we went back in for De Rossi after the deadline they gave us.
If we are letting Nani go to Sporting, I can't imagine that we don't have a replacement winger lined up. Di Maria being the obvious one.
I didn't know they have one but their summer has been really good so far.

AS Roma also had a great summer. They also have a DOF. Think we need to find one and get Woody to do what he's actually excellent at: Getting commercial deals for the club.
Do you think we will actually get a decent fee for him, because I don't. The amount we paid for him I would want more in sell on. All these years here, he has failed to deliver and yet another player we will make a loss on. We gave him that contract and wages, I would have just let him go. It wouldn't have been a great loss. He has been a waste of a squad place like Anderson.
I can see us getting 10-12m for him - in comparison to what we would have got with his contract running down then that's a significant % to the agent.
I wish! At least I hope a DoF is in our long term plans, especially since it is now unlikely that we will give long tenures to any of our future managers.
I like the idea of a football person getting transfers sorted out. The final say is the managers and a specialised person (DOF) aids him and gets deals done. It's better than Woodward who seems out of sync with this transfer lark.

I asked you a question in response to one of your earlier posts but i'll answer the question myself.
Laporte, Inigo Martinez, Musacchio are just three defenders who in my opinion would be very good for us and could be bought. With time running out there is still very good defensive options available was the point I was trying to make.
LvG still wants pace in the side, so DiMaria would be good. We have to bring players in who will get our opposition scared again. Give their defenders something to think about. They are having it easy.
I hope LvG's list didn't just have one name for each position he needs to strengthen. Yes you need targets, but you also need to have an open mind and be willing to look around for alternatives. You can't always get the players you want.
I am hoping that Saturday proved that 3-5-2 is overkill for most matches in the premiership. All that possession with no penetration just makes it ludicrous to have 3 central defenders on the pitch. We immediately improved in the second half when we switched to 4 at the back.

We swapped Hernandez for Nani to use a back four and two man midfield with Nani and Januzaj on the wings.
I'd say reverting to wingers in our very first game is a clear sign that we will use wingers.
