LVG did say that we "need top players" and we're currently "a little below that level". He won't buy for the sake of it.

ModricON or IscON?

:D (I'm joking)

Edit, also worth noting AS still mention Cuadrado as a "Barcelona target".

"look long term..." is the new "no value in the market" - Glazers are going to love this guy!
I suspect he only means he isn't going to buy a left back to cover Shaw for one month when Young can do a job there. If it happened after the window closed its what he would have to do. To me he is saying that his transfer plans are for the long term and i would hope that means he is focusing on a midfielder and central defender rather than suddenly looking to bring in a left back as well.

God knows what he means - we certainly don't need a left back as things stand. It still wouldn't surprise me one bit if Utd didn't buy anyone - that's how poor we've been in the market for the last few years. Neglect is the word I would use.

Yes exactly this.

I'd say the right side needs a body there rather than the left. LWB: Shaw, Young, James. Vs. RWB: Rafa, Valencia, Young.

Maybe we don't even need a RWB to be honest. But I'd rather see a RWB brought in, if anything.

Left back or LWB is definitely not a concern imo. Young was immense as a left wing back on tour and I think he would be first choice in that role at the moment. He only moved over to the right when Valencia got injured, and although he provides decent cover there and James can take over as LWB, I think the team suffers a bit. I think Youngs' versatility is a double edged sword for LVG. He can play on either wing, as a 10 or even up front as he often did for Villa, but at the same time LVG obviously see's Young as his starting LWB and that leaves a £27 Million player sitting on the bench (when fit). It will be interesting to see quite where Shaw and Young will fit in together. Maybe Shaw will be given the left sided CB role? But then if Rojo comes in? His headache is going to be where to fit them all in.

It's easy to see why LVG thinks it's a well covered position.

I'm not really expecting much from it... apart from "I won't buy for the sake of buying" or "If the right player comes along, we'll be in for him". The usual stuff. I'm really hoping it calms our nerves a bit and gives an indication that things are happening

Some quite incredible claims by the Benfica president on Jan Oblak and Atleti offering him back to the club in cash plus player swap

If those Vidal quotes are true then he wants to leave. If he wanted to stay at Juve then he would have said it. If we just make a bid (which we reportedly haven't done so far) then surely it won't be long until we reach an agreement with Juve.
