Just because LVG mentioned Di Maria as an example of a good winger doesn't mean we are in for him. If those quotes are from two weeks ago then LVG would have thought he was PSG bound at that point.

I think common sense would dictate otherwise. He clearly rates the player highly and he is very much available.

How would it go?

LVG: "Di Maria is a world class winger"

Ed: "so you want him then?"

LVG: "No"

I had to look at up, so he signed a 5 year contract last summer and didnt even play... Seriously WTF Moyes?!

That was one of the 1s things that Moyes did man. Definitely the first thing he did in terms of contracts - players in or out - which is his "mandate" (that term doesnt half sound chuckling).

Moyes should have been sued for last season's disaster - not f*cking rewarded with a pay-off. He would have ruined the club if he was in charge of us for the length of his tenure.

What we're you thinkin Fergie?!

I would doubt Woodward would have given him a new contract without talking to Moyes. So at some stage Moyes must have said hes in his long term plan - hence the long contract, but honestly why not give him a 3 year deal so after 1 season you could get rid easier!

Even though Moyes is gone he still lingers about

I'll say it straight out, if we don't get one of Vidal or Di Maria I'll not consider this a good transfer window after all those rumours that got my hopes up.

I think you'd better prepare yourself for disappointment, Vidal seems like it's going nowhere at all, even if things do progress we still need to agree a fee, and get him through a medical, Di Maria links are at best, tenuous.

For me the best we can hope for is Blind, Cuadrado, & some under the radar CB, dare I say it Vlaar at the last minute when all else has failed, then Strootman in January, or next summer, and right now that would be a result IMO.

Permanent ban, I'd been trolling the thread all along apparently.

Sorry to hear that man. Hopefully we'll get him signed up & you wont have to worry about what goes on there!

Do you honestly think you were "trolling" though?

Hate that term. Folk on here, use it so flippantly to even quote someone who's made a harmless joke ffs. They dont even know what the feckin term means for Christ sake. Thicko's!

Vlaar? I mean... he looked good at the WC but he was rather shit for Villa. Doubt we would sign him mate

Backroom staff gone & Moyes MKII "Philip" is also gone thank feck. All we need now to get rid of the rest of stench, is to get rid of Fellaini & Nani..

Hope not, but we need a CB with experience, Hummels aint coming, Vermaelen has chosen Barca, the De Vrij who looked ok in the WC has gone to Lazio, there appears no one on radar at all, the options are wearing thin.

Benatia...although he will be expensive as feck.

I don't know. I've been impressed with Blackett and Keane looks the part. I'd be no disaster if we got no CB in imo

Is strootman in January a done deal or something, the way people keep banging on about it?

Nope, infact it will be easier to sign Vidal than Strootman according to Roma who won't listen to offers less than 100m

Smalling, Jones and Evans are all injury prone and we don't know how Keane and Blackett will handle the step-up, even if they do. A centre back is almost as essential as a centre mid.

Had you ever heard of Vidic until we signed him?

There's gems out there in the Eastern European Leagues, which we should tap into if we want hungry warriors like Vida. F*ckin legend

Desperately need one imo, the three main ones we have are ok, but nothing special, Evans spends alot of time injured, Jones is a bit kamikaze which also tends to get him injured quite often too, & Smalling although he can defend well, just can't pass, the youth you mentioned looks decent but can you rely on unproven players in such an important season, i'd prefer 2 new CB's to be honest.

Benatia would be fantastic, but it's a big fee, and we don't seem strongly linked at all.

No, and wish we still had him, reckon we'd sign him back now if we could.

Yes I'm all for get some unknown rising star, but just seems nothing on the horizon at all, in such an important position. Time yet though I suppose.

If we don't find any quality defenders I'm willing to gamble with Keane and Blackett, they have huge potential and if they get promoted to the first team as potential starters they will probably get that extra boost of confidence all top players need.

Our midfield situation is another story...

Is it Duncan Castles who has a bad reputation on here? Not necessarily that he doesn't know what he's talking about, but that he's always very negative on United?

I seem to recall someone saying he was Arsenal bias.

To be fair I'm welcoming any negative press towards our transfer business, to me it could be the kick up the arse we need.

Despite Woody saying he monitors social media he's done literally nothing so far, needs to improve.

Yes he does, he never has anything good to say about United, he seems very bitter.

We need 2 top-class CB's if we've any ambitions to win the league & the domestic cups. Its as simple as that!

Cant understand folk rating M.Keane so highly - he was pish during the tour. Completely out of his depth & played like a scared young lad who hadnt a clue what he was doin. Folk need to stop reading into all this potential shite & actually watch his play to make your own minds up.

Same shite happened with Shawcross - he was even tipped as a future Ingerland Capitan ffs

Blackett on the other-hand, has the confidence to step-up. Totally comfortable on the ball, great passer & always lookin to play it forward. His one-touch forward passes to CM/left wing & further up, really impressed me. To me - thats like he's saying "get a friggin goal lads & hurry the f*ck up about it.."

Thats the type of player thats United quality - not a player who's so out of his depth in United's 1st team like M.Keane..

He's around the same age as Stone - yet Stone is 10 times the better player. Folk need to reality check & stop settling for a mid-table mentality ffs.

This is gettin pathetically like a scouse mentality - "our young players are gonna be world-class", without any sound knowledge or insight in Keane's ability to play at this level. Most havent even seen him play for the youth teams for Christ sake, or most more importantly: for Leicester, Derby or Blackburn last season.

Rio won Hammer's player of the year at the age of 19 - he only made his debut the year before. Thats the type of player that will win you things. His class was there to be seen at a very early age. Thats the standard we should be aiming for!

The thing is, Woodward may take all of the shit but it's clear nobody really knows what van Gaal is saying or wants behind the scenes. Woodward is actually the kind of guy that would likely splash 50 million on somebody just for the sake of trying to showoff (Maybe the wrong word, more to make a statement). Considering how quiet we've been and how little even the journalists know, it's tough to actually shit on Woodward when we don't even know if he's actually doing anything wrong.

He might well monitor it but he's hardly going to buy a player because the muppets on twitter are clamouring for it.

Are you genuinely judging Keane and Blackett purely on their tour performances? The reason people rate Keane is because he's really pushed on through the age groups and looked a superb centre half in the Championship. Meanwhile Blackett had two poor loan spells and looked some way behind. On the tour both showed their inexperience at times, but equally both showed decent potential.

Writing players off on the basis of four games is equally ridiculous as hyping them to high heaven.

Good post. I rated Michael Keane highly from what I'd seen in the U21s and in his loan spells. Blackett less so, as I didn't think he looked too good at Blackpool and Birmingham but he's pleasantly surprised me on tour.

The Di Maria stuff. The Express got the bid info from The Metro who got the bid info from Twitter. Now it's all over Spain and Italy.

Blackett has huge potential. Keane could be a decent back up but I give you it was a bad sentence. My bad.
I think most on here would agree with me whne I say that Keane is the better of the two.

Why was it? Keane and Blackett could step up. Keane looks classy on the ball as does Blackett and with the right coaching they'll improve no end. Ignore what that idiot says.

You're deluded!

I've seen Keane play all the way through the youth teams on MUTV & his time on loan spells too. Nothing has told me he's capable of playin at our level.

Catch a grip of yourself & stop biggin up players based on knowing nothing about them, apart from what you've read from red-tinted glasses wearers like yourself!

The sole reason we might need two centre backs would be because of our move to a 3-5-2, but Evans, Smalling and Jones are all capable players, despite some obvious flaws. An excellent centre back like Benatia for instance would enhance our defence immeasurably and thus I don't believe two are a necessity. Having continuity coursing through the defence and some of our defenders overcoming injuries or actually using their brain - like Jones - would be hugely beneficial too.

I also think you are being extremely harsh on Keane. I prefer Blackett and Keane made some costly errors on tour, but he was up against top opposition and constantly engaging in one-on-one defending with players like Bale. It's expected that he might struggle, but I admittedly question whether he can make the step-up. In regards to Blackett, he has changed my opinion, as he has improved over the duration of the tour, but it remains to be seen how he takes to competitive football in the Premier League.

I haven't seen anyone suggest that Keane or Blackett are certainties to become 'world class', so I don't know why you are saying that. Every player in the squad does not have to be world class and a team that isn't brimming with world class players does not mean you are guaranteed to not win a trophy. As we have seen on tour with van Gaal's arrival, the philosophy and system are the most important aspects of the team. If new players can adhere to that and fit seamlessly, while being of sufficient quality of course, we can be successful.

I want the likes of Vidal and Hummels as much as the next guy, but if van Gaal opts for a lesser player because he deems them more suitable for the team, so be it. We will be a team excelling the individual quality in the side and playing as a collective and I think that's a formality next season, but those demanding five or six players and then quelling any chance of silverware if we don't need a reality check also. Signing two players like Vidal and Hummels could make us genuine title challengers IMO, even if we are still behind City and Chelsea.

Went off on a bit of a tangent there.
