It's the fear of not getting anyone at all that makes him appealing to me as well, Vidal, Di Maria, Hummels etc would be great but nothing is happening and time is drawing on, to go into season with squad as it stands is frightening.

Hmm Van Gaal doesn't strike me as someone who would keep silent if there was a lot of propaganda bullshit going on with the club (Woodwards bullish "we can buy anyone" etc speech) so i think it could be an interesting 2 or 3 weeks coming up if we don't buy anyone significant.

I am not sure we will go after the real superstars. I think he will go now more for players who fit the system he has in mind. After all we have RvP, Rooney, Mata, Herrera, Januzaj... all superstars and we don't need 11 of them.
Much as they might offer us the most money, I doubt he'd go there, don't think i'd like to see him there either.

I have suspicions that any quote that has a players name in it is fake/been changed especially after some place were running that quote of talking about Cuadrado will raise the price when the real quote mentioned no specific player.

Just because LVG mentioned Di Maria as an example of a good winger doesn't mean we are in for him. If those quotes are from two weeks ago then LVG would have thought he was PSG bound at that point.
Di Maria is available though. If van Gaal says he lacks width and uses di Maria as an example of a player who is at a top level and could fill that space, then it would be fair to assume that there is some interest.
That's all it is, an assumption and certainly nothing to justify the "ultimatum to Woodward" bollox that's in the headlines. Nothing LVG his done or said suggest he's going to be switching from the 3412 he has played and trained for all pre-season to a 433 straight away.
I think a short speech from the pitch at the start of the season, to encourage us to stand behind him, would be a nice touch.
