You must be fun at parties.
All I'm saying is there's no reason to act as if Ronaldo has returned. We have signed a good player at a very high price. It's a fine signing but he's hardly the player to single-handedly take us to the top.

And no, I'm probably not that fun at parties.

Southampton are playing one hell of a risky game here, they could have one very upset player. They also taking the risk that Koeman appointment will work and that Shaw keeps up the form. He is a left back, they will never ever be offered that sort of money for him again.
Indeed. I wonder where their brinkmanship is coming from for the exact reasons as you've said.

But at the same time, we've been waiting for signing(s) to arrive since the day the season ended and it turns out the first one is a bloody good player.

If we are the only team in for him, then I'm surprised the fee keeps going up.
I think Southampton are digging their heels in like never before, they dont care until the money reaches silly levels and 30+ million is silly, I think it will happen and the fee will be 28-30m but I could see it only once the squad returns from the WC. We 100% need a new LB now Buttner is gone though.

I can't think of any single midfielder who will take us back to the top all by himself. But he is a big step in the right direction.

 Nope! I'm just going through this thread to see if I can find anything.

Looking for it now. Hopefully it wasn't in the previous one. :nervous:

It was posted in the Herrara thread not here. I'm 100 percent certain because i commented on it.

Get a world class CM to pair Herrera with and anything else would be a bonus this summer. Even with this signing we are still desperately short in the middle of the park but pair him with another top midfielder and suddenly we are looking good there again. Shaw is surely only a matter of time and hopefully a CB is being lined up too. As much as we would all like another winger,. it wouldn't be the end of the world if one didn't arrive.

Similar type of players.

As I said above, they are similar players. Imagine if we bought Silva and then you said "Great now lets go and get Mata".
There's so much room for quality in our midfield right now that it wouldn't matter should two player's be slightly similar. Vidal is much more of a goal threat anyway.

Personally, that would infuriate me if we made just two signings - even in critical areas - following the season we've just had and the hype surrounding this transfer window. Our previous manager grossly underachieved and we now have a competent man in charge, but there are a number of areas in the squad to address and we need to spend significantly if we want to give ourselves a good chance of reclaiming a top four spot.

Thats what Mata is there for. Assuming the ideal midfield pairing would be a sitter, a box to box and an attacker. The sitter position is probably open right now because only Carrick can play there well - Vidal isnt a sitter. Ander will take the box to box role that I think Vidal excels in. Mata is the attacker. So no, I dont think we have room to just sign any good player for the sake of it. Everything is about balance not just throwing good players together.

Yeah, but we've no idea how van Gaal intends to utilise our player's. He's openly a fan of Vidal, if he was to become available we'd be interested.

Call me a cynic but isn't this when all the 'ITK' blaggers start to make up vaguely plausible side-stories to the transfer to make it look they had the 'inside track' all along? Such as claiming he's at X hotel or that his agent has been in town since Sunday or my favourite "personal terms to be agreed, not expected to be a problem" etc?

For those asking "could this day get any better?". Let's have a look at what appears to be happening:

Suarez seems to be angling for a move by making comments about the "English media don't like me" still. Barca and Real rumoured to be interested.
Yaya Toure seems to be adding to his "reasons I want to leave" list , by saying MCFC wouldn't let him take leave to visit his dying brother.
We're finally signing a bloody midfielder! Yipppeee!
Buttner has left, wish him well.
Oscar has been contacted by PSG, but he says he's staying at Chelsea (room for improvement there perhaps? Come on PSG! Buy another Brazilian for your collection).

Am I missing anything?

The only thing that will make the day any better is seeing either Suarez or Balotelli crying when they get knocked out in about 3 hours time.

Think the clue is what Ogden said last night, we've told the media we were not going back in for him.

We've briefed the press he's not a target, they have focused elsewhere whilst Woody has snuck around in the shadows.

That's a scary thought actually.:nervous:

We already know the timeline, so if anyone does do that, we'll know they're bullshitters.

Timeline:

Monday: Ander Herrera tells his club he wishes to leave. (this would mean a deal was agreed with the player no doubt).
Monday Evening: Reports from Spain suggest Ander Herrera is set to join Manchester United with the deal to be announced in "the coming hours".
Tuesday afternoon: Ander Herrera says goodbye to his teammates.
Tuesday afternoon: Ander Herrera flies to Manchester for his medical.

Then hopefully:

Tuesday evening: Ander Herrera is confirmed as a Manchester United player after passing his medical. :D

To be honest I have no idea, especially on this one. Although when the original loan was near to ending back in 2012, Vela did say he didn't want to return to Arsenal and that's probably had something to do with this.

But at the end of it all Arsenal could potentially earn €14m for Vela after the initial fee of €3m 2 years ago and the deal they've agreed today. Good business.

Where did you get this info? Everything I read was keen on Arsenal having him back, the player opted to stay in Spain, which makes a lot more logical sense than Arsenal refuse a striker...

That is what I read too.

Arsenal wanted to buy him to sell him again, so rather than do that, they've basically sold him completely for another £12m.

He is 24 for fck sake and plays in a club that doesnt surround him with international talent to learn from. Chill the fck out
I don't understand this response. I said it's a fine signing and I'm happy with it?
