#mufc are indeed attempting to sign Ander Herrera. Could be done by end of the week, £28.8m. Still as surprised as last night..!
To be fair, when he was leaving Ajax, neither United nor Barca were in to sign him.
Worried that it's slipping. Was "Tuesday", then "48 hours", now it's "could be by end of the week".
yeah strange that journos who had no idea about the deal happening are suddenly putting a time line on things.More guess work, just like no journo seems to have known jack about us signing him in the first place.
Thought he was locked in for Arsenal?
You sure you're not thinking of the incident with the three amigos either last window or the one before? To everyone saying this came out of the blue, didn't somebody link us to Herrera a few weeks ago? Could be wrong, I'm sure I remember posting a tweet or reading one that said we're back in for him.
Why do Arsenal have buy back options put into contracts, they never seem to take them up?Arsenal didn't want to take up the buy back option and have permanently sold him to Sociedad for €11m.

It's Herrera we are taking about, not Fabregas(Fabregas would be much harder to keep under the radar). Al though I do think he will be a good signing. Woodward still has a lot to prove in my opinion, transfer window is far from done and neither is the Herrera deal yet al though it is looking likely. If we pull this off Woodward deserves credit keeping everything under the radar. Maybe people should give him some lea way.

Nope he is still shit.If we pull this off Woodward deserves credit keeping everything under the radar. Maybe people should give him some lea way.

Yep. It wasnt out of the blue we just didnt talk about it for long. Its in the thread.
To be honest I have no idea, especially on this one. Although when the original loan was near to ending back in 2012, Vela did say he didn't want to return to Arsenal and that's probably had something to do with this. Why do Arsenal have buy back options put into contracts, they never seem to take them up?
Surely they can't sell a player that isn't theirs? Have they 'sold' the buyback clause for €11m?Arsenal didn't want to take up the buy back option and have permanently sold him to Sociedad for €11m.
Good - I was keen for Shaw to join us, but anything above the original £28m is outrageous and after seeing R. Rodriguez playing some more in the World Cup we should really be turning our attention to him. Wishful thinking though.
Pretty much, would love to know how that works, but they've technically sold the buy back clauseSurely they can't sell a player that isn't theirs? Have they 'sold' the buyback clause for €11m?
No he wouldn't. Maybe pre-World Cup he would of been about £15-18m, now I'd expect £22-25m to get himMany still believe the deal to be closer to £28/30m so we'll see what happens.. I don't get why everyone thinks Rodriquez is going to cost little though I must admit.
Southampton are playing one hell of a risky game here, they could have one very upset player. They also taking the risk that Koeman appointment will work and that Shaw keeps up the form. He is a left back, they will never ever be offered that sort of money for him again.I think James Ducker said the same. That is good, we shouldnt be held hostage for him.

I think almost everyone is surprised that Woody could pull this off with such minimal media coverage? I have my hopes up, looking at how we've gone about the Herrera transfer.. Press didn't know about till what seems like the last stages of the transfer, there was no speculation linking us to the player.. Just out of the blue.
It's very strange indeed, he was under contract with Sociedad until 2016 before this deal went ahead, so if Arsenal said no and the option expired - what then? There's probably a lot more to it then we know or hear and it seems Arsenal held all the cards somehow. They could of threatened Sociedad to by him for the buy back and sell him on to another club for profit, so then they agreed to pay the €11m, most likely scenario imo.I still find it strange. Surely Vela could have refused to sign any contract with Arsenal even if they triggered his buyback clause? Why would Sociedad need to pay Arsenal money just to keep him?
