What needs a few months?

- They want x amount for a player
- We seriously need this player.
- Pick up the phone, offer said amount
- Player is ours

Not hard.

And before anyone says we're trying to get whoever for as cheap as possible. Sadly that's a bollocks tactic because Eddy Big Balls has already said we've got billions to spend and can afford practically anyone so clubs are gonna take one look at him trying to bargain and tell him to feck off. That's why it drags on for so long.

Woodward needs a reality check. If you want a player, you pay the price, otherwise you don't get him and you lose your job.

Says a lot about Scottish football that he would rather play here for a team that's favourite to go down than Celtic. Still good signing for soton

What a strange post. How did you come to that conclusion? He could have left at any point in the last three years yet he's decided to leave at the same time that Lennon has been replaced with a manager who has no clue what he's doing.

Wow.

It's true though. If you offer what they want then they sell you the player.

Obviously it's not an ideal situation but we're in exactly that position. We need to strengthen and clubs know we're supposed to have shitloads to spend so they're not going to entertain bargaining.

Goalkeepers: Norberto Neto, Ciprian Tatarusanu, Luca Lezzerini
Defenders: Manuel Pasqual, Marcos Alonso, Ahmed Hegazi, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Stefan Savic, Facundo Roncaglia, Nenad Tomovic, Gianluca Mancini, Cristiano Piccini
Midfielders: Juan Cuadrado, Borja Valero, Joshua Brillante, Alberto Aquilani, David Pizarro, Lazzari, Matias Vecino, Juan Vargas, Rafal Wolski
Strikers: Giuseppe Rossi, Mario Gomez, Khouma Babàcar, Josip Ilicic, Iakovenko, Joaquin

Looks pretty clear he is to me.
Wow, just wow

So if I was to offer Juve 60m for Vidal I would get him? Only thing though, I'd like to pay in instalments of 2 pound a month. Would that work?

It's actually astonishing people think this is how it works, still.

What's so hard about it seriously?

And why do other clubs just wrap up deals in record time whilst we spend an entire summer 'preparing a bid' and end up with Fellaini instead?

And people still persist with these lazy broad sweeping statements? Who has wrapped up deals in record time this transfer window?

Examples of this would be nice..

The optimist's view is that we're not briefing, hence no transfer reports in the press. Irrespective, there's less than a week to go until the new season and there are gaping holes in the squad. It's been yet another poor window - it was abundantly clear from the start where the problems lay, yet we've wasted a month. Chelsea have schooled us when it comes to getting their business done this summer.

Mourinho had a whole season to see what he needed. Infact id say if he went and bought a decent striker last summer, they would have won the league. But he didnt, he chased Rooney all summer and didnt get him and ended up with an over the hill etoo. He was never going to waste a whole summer this year too.

Van Gaal coudnt just come in and start transferring players, he repeatidly has said he wanted to give everyone a chance and go from there. This is the price we pay for not having a Football Director setup. But i like it this way. A FD could have gone and bought Di Maria in june for 50m only for Van Gaal to come in, switch the formation to 3-5-2 and say "well, i dont have a position for him". Something he has a history of doing.

FFS keep up mate, it's the slowest deal in history. We were interested in him last year!
It was a fast deal this year. No fecking around at all.

Examples of this would be nice..
And also, this idea that we've been 'prepping bids' is all on unreliable assumptions. Nobody concrete has actually linked us to Vidal, or Cuadrado, or Benatia, or anyone we've been linked with who hasn't signed. The only credible sources were linking us to Shaw - who we signed.

Exactly.

I'd rather LvG sign no-one instead of signing someone like Mata and then have no clue as to where to play him just like Moyes did last season.

Real.

Wanted Kroos. Paid up, bought Kroos.
Wanted James. Paid up, bought James.

Barca.

Wanted Suarez. Paid up, bought Suarez.

Chelsea.

Wanted Fabregas. Paid up, bought Fabregas.
Wanted Costa. Paid up, bought Costa.

Arsenal.

Wanted Sanchez. Paid up, bought Sanchez.

We'll be scrambling around the sofa on the last day of the season trying to come up with the cash for a player we don't actually want and Vidal will still be at Juve, Di Maria will be somewhere else, Cuadrado will have got pissed off and joined Barca for cheap, etc.

I may be exaggerating somewhat but we are fecking useless at buying players (and selling players tbf) when compared with other clubs. Forever 'preparing bids' or whatever and never actually getting the player we need.

Yep.

FWIW, I do think that Woodward doesn't really help himself with some of the comments he makes.

Well you could say the same for Herrera and Shaw...

LVG is assessing the squad. He's done that now and will buy players from now. Chill. He has this under control.

Yep.

That's the key - he raises expectations with his public dick waving and then he goes AWOL while sod all actually gets done. It'd be easier to accept if he just shut his trap. He was doing well not saying anything this summer, then he had to come out bleating on the US tour. Can't we put a muzzle on him?

Are you on the booze tonight?

Must've had the same amount as Woodward whenever he goes to bid for players.

Juve want 40 million for Vidal, lets offer 15p and a packet of crisps.

Just like the Fabregas saga last year.

Meh, I just can't wait for the season to start now, enough of this transfer crap, it's doing my head in. Would the likes of Vidal, Di Maria and Cuadrado be satisfying? Yes very! But in the same breath, I couldn't give the slightest ioata anymore if any of said players we have been after don't come. Once the season starts I'll be supporting all the same.

You need to chill and see what the next few weeks bring. You never know.

“It is a strategy of Manchester United to do that. At this moment, we have five No.9s and four No.10s – and we don’t have wingers to give us attacking width.

“Or, I should say, we don’t have wingers of the highest level, like Ronaldo or Di Maria or somebody like that. So, I have to play in another way – and you have seen that already. I only buy when I think we need to buy – in the position that is necessa

Real Madrid are impulsive buyers as their chairman is a madman who'll splurge on anybody. We don't know how long Kroos was a target for, and he was fairly easy to attain due to the fact he had a years left in his contract and was set on leaving but Bayern didn't want him to go for free.

Barcelona and Suarez wasn't seamless, it was fairly ugly and the madness really helped the fee. If he didn't bite, that saga could still be going on now.

Fabregas was unwanted by his club and was no longer a target of Manchester United and Arsenal didn't want him back there was literally nowhere else to go. Costa had been on since the season was still on and was only officially announced a week or so ago, with hold ups in the release clause and stuff. That was definitely a long drawn transfer.

Alexis was somewhat of a saga, wanted by a few clubs but Arsenal had the fortune of Juventus not wanting to break the bank and Liverpool being a shite hole. They hardly bought him instantly, it went out throughout the World Cup with a tug of war feel.

But hey, people see what they want to see, right?

So you weren't paying attention for the weeks that it was being talked about? Perhaps because you pay more attention and seek more 'information' regarding United related 'sagas'? Fancy that.

Call up a club. Put down 50m. Getting that "bid" accepted. Player's yours.

LVG said he wanted to assess the squad on tour before he made any signings.

Until we let any more players go, i genuinely don't believe we'll sign anyone and LVG is happy with the squad.

They've been back for less than a week, think it's time people relax.

It's so horrible being a United fan. The club is just embarrassing.

I'm fed up of it too my friend. I could very well just be venting frustrations and need to chill, can completely accept that and the likes of KM may have a much more balanced viewpoint but it isn't half annoying listening to constant speculation that we're gonna buy X and Y and then we end up with nobody and we've still got a broken midfield and a broken defence.

Said to myself at the start of this summer than I wasn't gonna get invested in transfer dealings because I hate all the bollocks in the papers and on twitter and now I'm fully invested and full on muppet. Doing my head in seeing other clubs buying great players and we're just fecked as ever.

Yeah, didn't you know? Because we said we're capable of spending big money it means we should just skip any negotiating and pay over the odds immediately. That wouldn't make us a laughing stock and drive the prices we're quoted up exponentially.

How do you know how much we've offered, even if we've put in a bid. The club has kept everything in house this season.
Time will tell, we could sign 2-3 players in the next few days, then again LVG might be happy with the squad.

Well you could say the same for Herrera and Shaw...

Those deals were sorted out by Moyes. After what Woodward said in his interview he really has let himself down again so far in this transfer window.

Like you said, it's your own fault for getting involved in it when you know exactly how it goes. Avoid the twitter thread if you can't handle it.
