Arsenal done well to get £15m

Bloody sures they did.

Thats mental money for someone thats so injury-prone & doesnt get games for club & country when fit either.

It completely baffled me that we were after him in the 1st-place - given that we already have a injury-prone defence as it is. I thought this story was just bullshit when it 1st broke. Crazy Louie.. but we dodged a bullet..

Can easily see LVG deciding to go with what he already has at his disposal at the back now that Vermaelen is off.
I'd be amazed. I could see him going for Evans-Jones-Smalling as the first-choice players but we really need at least someone to add more depth. Three quite injury-prone players (especially Jones and Smalling) and then two players just promoted from the academy as depth? We'd be very vulnerable.

Honestly think we'll sign Cuadrado and Vidal and be done with it. Can easily see LVG deciding to go with what he already has at his disposal at the back now that Vermaelen is off.

If I recall he said we need defenders, plural. I'd be surprised if we don't at least pursue other defensive targets.

It does mention Blind as a likely target after we gave up on Vermaelen, though. Could anyone see him do a decent job as a ball-playing CB? Maybe kind of a sweeper role to fill some of the gap behind Herrera and Vidal who seem like a quite attacking pairing. Also a good allrounder. Wouldn't be opposed to that transfer if the fee is decent but he's not someone to se the world alight.

Was thinking about this earlier. Put Blind in the team as the LCB in a 3412 and you can easily switch to a 433 with Blind going to DM.

We need top experience/quality in defence more than we need additional wingers/wingback.

And Woody finally establishes contact

I remember the interview, but still... if we sign Cuadrado, we'll have Cuadrado, Valencia and Rafael (+ Young) for RWB. Shaw, Young and James will cover LWB. That leaves Evans, Smalling, Jones, M. Keane and Blackett for three positions at the back, with Shaw possibly filling in at LCB as well. I'm not saying that's what's definitely going to happen and I certainly prefer us to sign a defender in the mould of Benatia, but it wouldn't surprise me... LVG was never shy to use the academy at his former clubs.

I don't know how a Madrid based paper is going to know about a Colombian player playing in Italy going to Utd before any of the more local press in Italy/England pick it up.

Brilliant signing if true and absolutely perfect for our new system, im very very excited at his prospects for us.

Just a little underlining plus about LVG, he speaks German, English, Spanish and Dutch.....Caudrado, Vidal, Herrera, Mata, De Gea will feel extremely comfortable speaking the same language as the boss.

Looks like Cuadrado and Blind are nailed on then? Hope the Benatia and Vidal rumours become reality...It would be the perfect summer transfer wise.

Not convinced Cuadrado won't prove to be an expensive mistake.

He's 26, only played one full season as a starter in Serie A, at a pretty mediocre club, made his international debut at age 24 (Colombia can't be overflowing with talent so why so late), and had one decent ish game in the world cup.

Fiorentina must be laughing - 36m? Kinell.

No room for such negativity here... Off you go! Go on, beat it!

You're probably right.

Really? I thought he was fantastic throughout. He was my favourite player at the world cup, and that's not something I'm just saying now that we've been linked to him. He got the most assists at the WC I'm pretty sure.

He's so exciting to watch. He can beat a player, something we're lacking. He has pace, also something we're lacking. He fits into both systems and he's a quality dribbler. I've only seen him a handfull of times for Fiorentina but I'm a big fan, really hope it happens.

Well if it happens I hope you are right. I haven't seen much of him, just saying the stats don't look all that, and he seems a late developer for whom 36m seems a bit much.

The fact that they rather let Vermaelen go to Barca than take Phil Jones in exchange shows how much BS is there in that story!
Not if the bit about Jones not training regularly between matches is true.

But I doubt it.
