Yep, bollocks story. No way we offered Jones for Vermaelen.

Give us Ramsay for Cleverley then.

Surely the type of CB we should be looking at if all the top class ones are unattainable? Less than what Vermaelen went for.

Haven't seen him much outside that defensive Greek side tbf. We can probably aim slightly higher than taking a risk on that type from the Greek league.

Not convinced Cuadrado won't prove to be an expensive mistake.

He's 26, only played one full season as a starter in Serie A, at a pretty mediocre club, made his international debut at age 24 (Colombia can't be overflowing with talent so why so late), and had one decent ish game in the world cup.

Fiorentina must be laughing - 36m? Kinell.

Try 3. In fact, he started more games in 11/12 and 12/13 than he did last season (32, 34 and 31 respectively).

12 goals and 9 assists in 36 games is very good - especially for a player who played a third of those as a wing back. Averages 1.9 key passes per game too, which will have taken all those games at wing back into account.

You need to look deeper into the stats. Like I said earlier - he managed 1 and 1 against opposition of any note. It looks like half of his production was against the might of Chievo.

Thing is I'd like us to go back to snapping these guys up at this point in their careers than waiting till they excel in a stronger league and their value trebles.

He's looked a pretty good player based on his performances at the World Cup with Greece and against us in the Champions League for Olympiakos. And Juventus, the king of finding bargains, are interested in him for only £10m which can only mean he's not a half bad player. He's young too so he's got plenty of room for improvement and fits our policy of buying young talented players.

Well if it happens I hope you are right. I haven't seen much of him, just saying the stats don't look all that, and he seems a late developer for whom 36m seems a bit much.

Says it all.

You haven't seen much of him but fancy pretty much shitting on the move based on a few 'stats'. Makes sense.

How much has any one here fecking seen of him?

Can any Arsenal fans on here shed some light on this?

I wouldn't trust that, we'd be stupid even entertain the thought. Jones is the rare breed of center back that has shown quality at a very young age while having the pace to match an attacker and make recovery tackles. He just needs a bit of guidance to polish his game, which he'll get from Van Gaal to soon be a top player.

Quite a bit? We don't live in some world where football from other countries isn't accessible. There's quite a few on here, myself included, who watch Serie A every single week. You having not seen much of him doesn't mean nobody else hasn't.

I hope your optimism proves be right lad, I genuinely do.

Woodie has me confident and there is simply too much at stake not to spend heavily.
I dont understand why we went after Vermaelaen but I hope we get Benatia.

So how much have you seen of him? I can't believe Fiorentina games are often televised.

Give me the low down then.

Is Benatia even a realistic option? I mean if City dropped out for him for Mangala, surely he'd be too over-priced.

And I feel like signing Benatia would mean no deal for Strootman; I doubt that Roma will want to sell two first-teamers.

Every single game in the league is now broadcast online.

Not sure what exactly you want a lowdown on? Cuadrado's a very good player that would likely fit van Gaal's system perfectly. I'd of said 35 or so million is quite high personally but there's other clubs interested, Fiorentina don't really need to sell and van Gaal seems to want a player similar to this to fit the system he's implementing. Based on that I could live with the prices being touted considering the prices being paid in the market nowadays.

I share your negativity mate. Granted, I haven't seen a lot of him, but the game against Brazil in the world cup really put me off him (yes I know, one game etc...). He just reminded me of Nani of the past couple of seasons. Head down, running into players, giving it away a lot. Can any of you Fiorentina watching lads/lasses put my mind at ease?!

We dont need the Stroot because Vidal is en route IMO.
If LVG wants to pursue Strootman at a later date, thats his prerogative.

As soon as the Vermaelen deal feel through, Benetia emerged as a target, I am not sure if he was being profiled all along but he is significantly better than Vermaelen and 2nd only to Hummels in my book.

How do you watch United if you haven't got a season ticket?

WTF?

Online obviously.

I am a United fan though and watch United games. I can't imagine there are many United fans who watch us online or wherever and then go looking for the Fiorentina game to watch that night too. Kinell.

Have City sealed that deal yet? 100%?

Thought there were rumors he wanted to sign for us - wonder if we can get back in the mix.

I don't think anybody has even suggested they do that. Over a couple of years it's perfectly possible to watch enough games to get an idea on the player he is. I don't watch Newcastle every week surprisingly but I can tell you that Paul Dummett is absolute pony

Another week passing with yet no signings. Creeping towards the start of the EPL. Shit we're leaving it this late once again

I'd love both Vidal & Strootman here. Add Herrera to that duo & that CM (in a 4-3-3) would be the best in the world after a period of time. Also, Ander could play in Mata's role (in a 5-2-1-2) if needed too.

End of the day - we need as many options as possible & use different formations too..

I am not saying it's ideal - but at the moment we have few injuries and we have a doable start to the season - so as long as we get 2-3 players in before the transfer-window closes, I am happy.
