I know it's not the Vidal signing everyone wants but it would be a bit of a boost for Woodward if he takes on Barcelona for two players and manages to get them both.

Give him more reason to talk shite and barely deliver, yeah.

Agreed, we've complained for too long about missing out on targets to other elite European sides. It would be a massive coup to secure two of Barcelona's targets before them. I'm just about ready to board the Cuadrado train.

If we are seriously in for De Jong I'd be super pissed and we might as well forget Vidal.

Falcao is earning net 18M euros at Monaco. For a English club to match that post-tax, the weekly wages would be in range of 500k before tax! Not to mention 40-50M transfer fee which Monaco will ask for transfer. Not sure how any club can buy him now given the contract he got at Monaco.

Monaco was probably just a move to set him up for life financially.

Monaco for a couple of years on outrageous money and then go to a proper club and scrape by on £/€200,000 a week.

Yup, would be a great summer. Shaw,Herrera,Vermaelen,Cuadrado and hopefully mister V himself.

If Woodie manages to trump Barca for not one but two signings it will surely mean a new era is upon us.
I think Ed is determined to make his mark this transfer window, I also think he'll get them

Is our interest in Cuadrado legit though?

From everything I've been reading the last few days it would appear so. Cuadrado is a very exciting player and we haven't had a pacey dribbler for a while, our side needs pace.

Not worth the reported 15 million fee though, can see Barcelona going getting a better defender for that type of money

Well, problem is that Arsenal probably would be willing to sell Vermaelen at £10-12m, if Barcelona were to buy him, want more due to us being their rivals.

Jerome Boateng has been linked to Barcelona for less then Vermaelen in the past couple of days and is a better player then him

Less?
I've seen fees close to €40m being mentioned for him, where the hell have you seen him being linked for less than €20m?

Marca says at least €39 million. Anyways, there's no way he's leaving according to Guardiola and Rummenigge.

Not sure why these stories about Hummels and Reus keep popping up. As Dortmund showed with Lewandowski if they don't want to sell a player they won't. They don't mind taking a hit on the transfer fee either.

I don't believe the story for a second but Dortmund can't carry on taking hits on the transfer fee.

De Jong would be a great signing. His reputation as a thug is entirely based upon the world cup karate kick. He's only been sent off once.

He wouldn't be a great signing at all, he's a mediocre clogger who is 30 in November and has spent his last few years dwindling in Serie A in Milan's old peoples home where other unwanted players no longer good enough for the best sides reside. His reputation is based off a lot more than that one kick, Ben Arfa's leg will attest to that, utter scab of a player.

Oh feck that, he's the last of that fantastic crop of young talent that emerged around the same time, so far we've missed them all, we hopefully wont miss Reus as well.

I would be absolutely devastated if Reus ends up going to Arsenal. Ozil was meh, Sanchez was bad but this one will take the cake.

That tweet is misleading.

I've read the article, it talks mainly about Bayern and Rummenegie, in a small paragraph at the end it mentions Arsenal should be in the race and that Wenger admires Reus and wants to bring him to London. Its barely 3 sentences about basically nothing, could switch out Arsenal and Wenger for any club and manager in world football.

Could somebody enlighten me where you'd guys plan on playing Reus? Reus the wingback? Nah, wasted there. Reus the 10? Only slight upgrade on Juan. As a striker, we have better. If we'd play 4-3-3 though he'd be a perfect wide forward.

That Özil signing changed so much. Could you imagine last year, that Arsenal would land a player like Sanchez and be the favourite for Reus?

I have a feeling that LvG might be working his way to transform the squad to be able to play 4-3-3, but since it'd take too many transfers to do so this summer, he's planning on playing a different system this year that fits what we have, while he makes his own adjustments (hence his comment about having to sign another type of wingers in order to play 4-3-3)

is it weird that someway. somehow after seeing Young rejuvinated under LvG the Vermaelen links don't really bother me?
Not that they have anything in common, but I'm guessing if LVG can make Young useful he can do so with Vermaelen as well. I mean I know the guy's 3rd choice at Arsenal now, but it wasn't that long ago that he was their best CB.
Sure it's not like I'm overly excited about it, it's not like being linked to Hummels or anything, but we do need numbers at the back, and his past performances (excluding last season) and my personal "belief" in LVG makes me think he might turn out to be quite a better signing than most on here expect (granted that isn't exactly hard due to most not wanting him here).

Honestly, in a way, I just trust the guy...something I could never have said about Moyes sadly. And whoever he decides to bring in I'm positive he'll turn into a good player for us.
With that being said, I'm still hoping that somehow we manage to land Hummels, more so than Vidal or any other target.

There's nothing LvG can really do to stop Vermaelen being so injury prone though, which is the real issue. If Vermaelen could stay fit then he might surprise us but how likely is he to really stay fit?

One of our problems in recent years has been an inability to get a settled defence and this is largely due to injuries. I was hoping that might change once we replaced Rio and Vidic but Vermaelen is worse again.

Have you seen the length of the Vidal thread ? Its a good indicator its not happening.
People not as excited about Vermaelen, I doubt the Vermaelen thread will receive the same amount of attention. Also, we are back from our tour so if anything is happening at all, I reckon it will be soon as we are running out of time.

you got a point there...but still it's not like "once injury prone always injury prone"....that may be the situation in the majority of cases but it's not a "rule" so to speak...all we can do is hope for the best I guess, besides as of now it's all still just rumours as far as we know.
