Did I miss the referendum & Declaration of Independence from GB? I know the Scots are trying but N Ireland is firmly part of Britain, so all have British passports, thus are British!
RHD was just kidding, plus not all Norn Iron residents carry British passports, I and a fair few other North men and women carry Irish passports. Just a little fact for you. :)

 fecking hell, you definitely seem to have missed something mate.

Didn't Van Gaal also say something along the line of "We are still looking at players, we still have a month left" or something?

So he did not rule out signings?
Yep. He did say that. He said he wants to give the current players a fair go before looking elsewhere. He implied that there is no rush to sign anyone as there is a month left.

However he didn't rule out signing anyone, at all.

He has definitely not ruled them out. In fact he said we're trying to get a CB

He'd be a great choice.

If he can stay fit definitely. Fletch would be the ideal choice, but he's not gonna be 1st choice & thats the absolute criteria..

1st & foremost, we need more than one leader on the pitch. Top to bottom we need talkers & not wimps.

Remember the 94 team?

11 leaders on the pitch - thats what we need more than one with an armband right now & i think we're well on our way with that objective.

After watching quite a few of the training sessions with Van Gaal - they're all buying into his thinking & thats United in a nutshell!

Couldn't agree more. The chemistry that is seemingly being built by van Gaal and his philosophy is exactly what this team needs.

If Jonny can stay fit, he'd be a great Captain for us. Good guy on & off the pitch & is proper United through & through - not to mention our best CB & one of our best players..

It also lets LvG avoid the Rooney/RvP situation if he made either of them captain, so the choice is a good one from all angles I think.

We'll clean up then RB eh?

We've already lost Rio, Vida, Evra, Giggsy & Fellaini looks to be on his way thank God. Then we have Cleverley & Nani that arent up to it. Massive question marks on Rafa, Smalling, Jones, Young (to keep his form up), Valencia (to get his form back), Carrick (to get his form back).

5 new players aint enough to win us the league, because we've lost 5 already (Fellaini included) & there's so many question marks about the rest of the squad, not to mention the injury prone Rafa, Smalling, Jones & Evans..

Polish a turd all you want, but at the end of the day its still a turd!

Rio - good on form.
Vidic - good on form.
Evra - good on form.
Giggs - good on form.
Fellaini - Not suitable.

By "good on form" I mean, able to put a game together where they still look like their former selves and are able to look like world beaters, which brings about a nostalgic factor making fans want to see them play week in/out, which will end in tears in my view.

Cleverley, Nani, Rafa, Smalling, Jones, and Young are hanging on by their last pube of potential or too injury prone.
Clev, Nani, Smalling (potential in my personal view) or simply too injury prone (Rafa and Jones). Young just seems to get away with being a nice guy.

Too long of a post to put too much detail in this thread, but I reckon I could back that arguement up if needed.

If not, I could quite as easily just blame Moyes.

And! Let's see how the guys do this year (apart from Giggs of course).

United by name - United by nature! Thats what we're about!!

Fergie & LvG are of the same ilk & its frighteningly ironic, that we have LvG with the same mantra to knock the shit out of perches in his way..

I'd make Evans the captain and Fletch the Vice Captain.. Both are United through and through plus very well experienced too. Carrick is another who should be in with a shout but I think he's too mild a person to be the leader LvG wants on the pitch

I could give my low-down on most of that RB, but i've done that already probably 50 times recently & its become tiring goin around the block again. So, i'll just give the short version man.

If we had all the players we wanted to bring in right now - we'd all be singing from the same hymn sheet for the start of the season & ready to go. So this squad is gonna be the starting squad for Swansea at the very least..

Indeed. And it's also frightening that the club (and Fergie) believed David Moyes was capable of carrying on that tradition of the club. They couldn't have been more wrong in their assessment. Glad it's over with and that we have LVG instead. What a difference it will be.

Carrick was my tip for the captaincy until he got injured. The tour was the chance for squad / management bonding & Carrick would have stood out as being a leader in his own way.

Technically - Carrick pisses over most of the squad. Superb footballer & good guy, who leads by example too.

He's been one of the 1st names on the sheet when he's fit since 2006 & i still think he might get it. Its between him & Evans in my opinion, but Evans cant guarantee being injury free - Carrick's been ever-present season after season since he signed.

I dont see the point in handing the captaincy to someone who cant string a sentence together i.e. Rooney at press conferences or interviews. RvP unsurprisingly can handle it no sweat, but he's relatively only in the door & cant guarantee being fit next season - given a tough WC were he faded pretty badly & last season's injury woes ala Arsenal's nightmare.

Either way, its Evans & Carrick as the front-runners for me..

Cleverley might be the black horse though & if that shit happens - i'm off to FC United!

From what's been reported man, Moyes wasnt 1st choice anyway - far from it.

Fergie approached Pep in New York, but he had agreed to take the Bayern job. Ancelotti was asked also, but he agreed to manage Real & Mourinho said he'd only come back to the Prem to manage Chelsea. Klopp wasnt goin anywhere either!

The word on the street was, that no top manager wanted to take over United after Fergie - it was the job after the last guy that appealed to most.

As f*cked up as this might sound - last season's misery could just be worth it, now that we have LvG & his merrymen in charge to freshen up the club like Fergie did in '86.

LvG is most certainly knockin bollox's in - like Fergie did back then & thats what we want to see. Earn the right to play for the club or f*ck off..

LVG was clear that he had other plans though. He wanted to have a good look at our players on tour and then mentioned we'd have enough time to sign players after if they are needed. And he specifically said he wanted a defender
I think that sounds a bit stupid. Not from you. How do we have enough time? Its not easy signing players nowadays anyways. Or we ll have to over pay for a average player on the last day.

Today's #gds: on #Vidal, there are rumors about possible negotiations in the last hours, especially a new assault by Manchester United..

Is GDS Juve's mouthpiece? Or is that tuttosport?
Why is the Italian media pushing this story so much? Are Juventus desperate to cash in? Don't really see why they would be.. but then again, if they could get 40-50m for a player without whom they could still win that crap league comfortably, I can see them being tempted.
