Combination of last Summer, the fact its been a month since we made our two signings and that there is now only 2 weeks to go until the season starts.

Woody spent all season saying how we've learnt from our mistakes and we'll get our business done early this year, well if thats the case, either our business has been done, or we've fecked up yet again.
You think Woody was just on one massive WUM with the "watch this space" comment then?

I dont think we're done for the summer but I dont think we'll be signing any top players.. maybe Vermaelen and one other CB who can play RB.. and a young midfielder. I dont think Vidal will be signed unless something drastic happens soon.. We've had way too much time to wrap up signings.

Also it'll be harder for LvG to get new players playing to his style and philosophy if they dont have time to bed in with the 1st team squad.

We needed early buys like Herrera and Shaw, and after all the noise Woody made about spending the cash.. The truth is that there aren't many players left that we can "splash the cash" on..

We're done for the Summer. I'm convinced of it.

You're such a drama queen.

I do think our lack of activity is a bit of a joke though to be honest. Whether LVG likes what he sees when he "assesses the squad" or not, we only have 3 first team centre backs, 2 full backs, and a poor central midfield. There's no way we couldn't have done more business. We're just wasting time by waiting to sign players we'll inevitably need to sign.

Actually as time goes by, teams will demand the cash is splashed if they are going to lose their players. Meaning we can continue to overpay for players

I think we're in for Vidal but the chances are slim. We're not done for the summer though, my guess is we'll add Vermaelen and possibly Blind as a utility player.

This. It's obvious we will drop a huge sum on a player worth half of it on deadline day..

I dont think LvG himseld rates most of that Dutch squad he had or else he'd had no qualms about bringing them in sooner as he knows their strengths and weakneases very well.. That team ran on Robben, De Jong and good tactical defending.. There was no special breathtaking football from that lot like we saw in 2010..

Lets remember that Ander was our last gasp choice last summer and he looks a very good addition so far. So while you're more likely to make a blunder when you feel forced into signing players late on, they aren't all bad panic buys. And when plenty of our signings fail anyway I'm not sure its any more worrying than signing someone "the manager knows" like with Fellaini.

I thought Evans was a very likely candidate a while back, the only issue was he may not be guaranteed first choice. Since we're playing 3 CBs and reports suggest LVG likes him very much it wouldn't surprise me. He's been here a long time, British, is vocal on the pitch and plays an ideal position for the captain's role.

I think between Panic buying and not Buying LVG like SAF would lean towards not buying actually.

If the Vidal rumours are false then why hasn't he came out with a statement saying he wants to stay at Juve?

My worry is the closer it gets to the close of the window the harder clubs will be to deal with unless they have a replacement lined up etc. I know we still have to whole of this month to get deals done but I'd have thought LVG would have wanted players in and bedding in to the squad by now.

I'm going to go with he wants out but he doesnt want to burn any bridges.. and Juve wont let him go because he hasn't asked for a transfer..

I'd personally like us to forget Vidal, sign someone like Pjanic and maybe add De Jong too, also buy Vermaelen and keep M. Keane in the 1st team and focus on the new season..

Pjanic would be harder to sign than Vidal. And would cost near the same.

That's what I was thinking. If that is the case then there is a real chance of us signing him.

Norn Irish :nono:

Probably means nothing but Paddy Power have suspended betting on Vidal's next club.

It'd need us to bid big which I dont see us doing till deadline day when Woody finally realizes that Juve aren't going to budge and he's going to just throw cash at them hoping to push the deal through in the final hours of the deadline.

I believe Juve want us to make the 1st move but Woody thinks he's being smart by being quiet and letting the press have their fun thinking Juve are going to give in and let Vidal for cheap. Reality is thay Juve are more than happy to keep Vidal and let things pan out..

Sam, its LvG thats holding everything back with his assessment 1st strategy. He said at his 1st presser that it'll take a month to complete his assessment & then he'll sign players if he needs to..

I dont think LvG needs a month to have an idea of who needs and who doesn't fit into his style of play. A month's wait is too late into the transfer window and even he knows it, I think he was just generalizing when he said he needs a month. I think he meant he'll assess his squad over the coming weeks and decide on transfers

Agreed, this formation may have erased the dire need for wide players but it has done the opposite in terms of other positions. I would still like 4/5 more which I really dont see happening but if we dont sign at least two players we are pretty much only an injury or loss of form away from trouble.

He also told Woodward who he wanted and who could go.

Before this window closes, we are going to sign 1 defender, 1 wing back/wide player and 1 more midfielder.

Mark my words, quote me on that, etc. etc.

We'll clean up then RB eh?

We've already lost Rio, Vida, Evra, Giggsy & Fellaini looks to be on his way thank God. Then we have Cleverley & Nani that arent up to it. Massive question marks on Rafa, Smalling, Jones, Young (to keep his form up), Valencia (to get his form back), Carrick (to get his form back).

5 new players aint enough to win us the league, because we've lost 5 already (Fellaini included) & there's so many question marks about the rest of the squad, not to mention the injury prone Rafa, Smalling, Jones & Evans..

Polish a turd all you want, but at the end of the day its still a turd!

uh oh.. Its going to be tiki-taka on a cold, rainy night in stoke! Messi's next in line, agent Muniesa is on the job!!
