Oh please not. This guy even made Austria's midfield look good when we played against them. So freaking overrated on here it's unreal. Would also cost a shitload and for that money we could get some proper quality in.
Our whole team were bad against Austria, so that would not have been very hard. He's a good intelligent wee player, I've always said I wouldn't mind him at United even before last season when he was still at Wigan.

A big if but if Vermaelen can rediscover his form pre injury he would be a good signing. Yes he could not get back into the Arsenal side but you don't just walk back into a side if they are playing well unless you are the star player.
Miranda was very good last season for Atletico but his rumoured price is too high as is Benatia. I feel we missed the boat on Garay.
I'm not sure who else as Varane and Hummels are a no go imo, I would actually be confident with just one addition and promote Keane to the first team squad.
It's come in 3-4 years to late. They are just adding depth now.
Would happily take him for the reported €2m offer even if he has attitude problems, definitely a huge future prospect and the pros outweigh the cons. LVG will be a manager that won't take his attitude so he'll either change it and go on and become world class for us and have a massive resale value or his attitude doesn't change and we'll make our €2 million back easily.
Having seen him play for Wigan a fair bit when Tom was there, I would have loved to have him here. Especially for the price Everton got him for and definitely ahead of that waste of space that Moyes did get ultimately.
Yes we paid the buy out clause of a very good midfielder so I'm well happy with that and then paid over the odds on a capable player who in years to come will become very good so I'm also happy with that investment.
Did I mention we hadn't bought anyone in yet though, also signing a left back when selling two in the same window just kind of makes it a priority. Signing one midfielder when we have five very mediocre ones on the books would suggest we are still someway short of rectifying this problem. If you even think this team is now where it needs to be to challenge for league titles and CLs then you are either extremely optimistic or you also really hope we sign more players but your'e playing the 'lets give a smart arsed answer remark to fans that seemed spoilt' on redcafe because this somehow makes me more of a fan.

For me that'd be exactly the same as the Anderson deal. They'd have a closer look at him and realise he's not for them.
I think Hummels would be brilliant in a back three in a 3-5-2 but he might lack pace to be in a CB pairing in a 4-3-3.

Hummels lack of pace is quite obvious but if in a three with Jones or Smalling they can provide the pace. Vidic was never quick even before his injury and if anything cleared the man mountain Rio was there to mop up.
I think a slow CB is not a problem as long as paired with one with pace. I really hope we go for Hummels next summer seems highly unlikely this year despite reports.

1st of August... Seems we are dragging out our business again. Was hoping we would have finished our transfer business by now. I don't see the benefit of acquiring players late in the window without any preparation under the new manager and regime. Not sure how much longer Van Gaal needs to assess the squad, we need to get it done now.
If we haven't heard anything by Sunday then hopefully all the talk will die down, it's beyond a saga now for some people.
Seems like we'll be waiting until we get back from the Tour to do our business.

Indeed. Didn't Van Gaal even say that he wanted to look at out players on tour before making any decisions? So that would add further weight to that conclusion.

There isn't much need for them to splash out at the moment anyway. They've got a fantastic team and they've made 3 solid additions to it, with mangala yet to come. They'll probably spend big on a central midfielder in the next couple of years when Toure gets on a bit.

Sure the final contract signing etc need's to be done in person, but why not say we've signed him but is due a medical or something, it's a lot of messing around.
Exactly, would have been strange if he signed this week and was left to twiddle his thumbs at Carrington for a week while the rest of the squad and coaching staff are on tour.

We don't know how the bid process works at the club. It could be a case of all bids need to be made at the office. Glazers are sharp businessmen which means there will be procedures and proecess' to go through. A paper trail the size of a dinosaur! So it might be no surprise that it can't be done away from home base aka 'Home 1'.
Monday evening so I'd imagine we'll be back in Manchester Tuesday evening/ Wednesday morning at the latest. Until then I expect to hear nothing on transfers.
