Didn't Moyes know before the leak tho? And there signs of a flurry of bets on Moyes to succeed Fergie which is what encouraged Ogden to delve further?

Perhaps I've made all that up.
Yea that's true but what makes me think it didn't have anything to do with Moyes is would he risk ruining his chance at getting his dream job if it got out that he leaked the story and I'm not 100% sure but isn't Ogden solely based in Manchester? or is all of the North West? If its just Manchester would he have built up such a relationship with Moyes that Moyes would trust him more than any other journo?

My guess is that its a member of the non playing staff, someone on the board maybe. Someone close to Woodward or maybe even him. Anyway if he gets us Vidal then he can leak away all he wants

Higuain was available before they signed Ozil. They should have paid the money for him.

It seems a deal was in place and at the last Napoli can in with a huge bid. Depending on who you ask Perez helped Ozil get to us as he's personal friends with Wenger and felt they stitched us up over Higuain. I'd like to believe that.

If Napoli offered more money, what's it got to do with Real?

I think as we had an agreement in place, and they backed out of the deal at the last minute because of the bigger offer. They went against their word... Perez helped with Özil moving to us (probably as Spurs were against it with their Bale deal going ahead too).

Not sure if it's true, but I read that a few times after the Özil deal went through.

It was Woody doing most of the feeding I reckon, but I'm sure Moyes was on hand to talk to the journalists too. Wasn't he very friendly with a few?

Yes, and yes. Woody trying to get closer to reporters is well known, one even mentioned a meeting they had in his office (when Woody's phone started ringing, he answered on speaker and it was Chelsea - it was when we were buying Mata - so he got out of the room quickly while telling the guy on the other side of the phone not to speak yet ).

I always figured it was Woodward but Moyes would clearly know reporters better as they got back a long way. Some of the info at the start of last summer (Moyes wants two midfielders, one defensive and one more offensive, etc) seems like it came from him. I was during the Australia and Asia tour and he was talking to reporters there...

It was probably both of them. Moyes would hardly have told reporters he was going to be sacked 24 hours beforehand. Anyhow, it seems to have stopped.

They have Sanchez and Campbell to play up top too. I think Wenger will flirt with playing Ozil as a false-9 with inside forwards either side.

Where's that quote from anyway?

After Saturday's friendly. Also said they don't need a midfielder if everyone comes through pre season but that's probably bluffing too as unlikely their best options will be fit all season.

First and for most its incredibly important that we let go players like Anderson, Young, Fellaini, Bebe, Cleverley, Nani etc.

Make the squad lean as we don't have very many games this season and keep some spots free to promote youngsters from the academy. Also reduce some of that wage bill, even if it means taking a hit on transfer fees.

I am pretty sure that quote is 2 years old.

It must be, ain't this the guy that got locked up? Think people are talking about it cause Gary Linekar had it on his twitter feed yesterday.

I'd say the first and most important thing is that players are bought in to fill the holes, when that's certain, then the trimming can happen. I don't get the obsession with getting rid of players when it's not even sure any are coming in. At least having bodies to fill that position as mediocre as they are is better than nothing.

I couldn't disagree more. Filling positions with bodies just for the sake of it is what got Moyes sacked. We have enough talent in our academy to fill positions from within if needed. Blocking progress of youngsters by filling positions with mediocre players on undeserving wages is surely harming the club in the long-term.

TORINO - They say that Pavel Nedved is worse than it took for the resignation of Count. They describe him "angry" for the evolution of the story and, knowing the Czech, it is certainly an understatement. He, Conte, would not have ever been divorced, even if he understands the choice of his and that of society. And, innate habit, looks ahead. Indeed runs ahead, saying what he thinks and explaining what he knows to Denik Sport, Czech newspaper that interviewed him during his vacation, because even in those parts for the resignation of Juventus have made headlines. WHAT has happened to - "Conte has given the resign because he no longer had the energy to continue, not because he was in disagreement with the leadership. It is not true that everything that has been written by the media about the affair: the decision of Count has really taken by surprise, even though we knew he wanted to leave at the end of last season. at that time he was tired of it all, but at that time we agreed with him that it would be another year. We told him we would have to completely disconnect during the holidays, relax and come back refreshed, but when he arrived in Turin and went back to work he told us that he had no more energy " . RHYTHM exhausting - "After three seasons, three consecutive championships no longer had the strength to continue, we tried to convince him to stay, but we did not succeed. I must admit that I fully understand his decision: the way in which he carries out his work is exhausting. Do not neglect any detail: since in a field when considering the video at home or when he explains to the players what he wants from them or when they meet with his staff. It 'a manic perfectionist, so it's possible that after three seasons at this rate may have felt fatigue " . CHOICE OF CHEERFUL - 'E' a great loss for us. Conte is a great coach and we are grateful for everything he has done. He has done an excellent job and we will miss him very much. But we had to react very quickly after its dimissioni.E 'was tough: we were sorry for the loss, but then we had to bring in Turin Allegri. It was not easy to find a coach in such a short time. Candidates were two: Allegri and Mancini. Mancini had the opportunity to coach the Italian national team and so we reached an agreement with Allegri he is an engineer and a quality win " .MARKET - "The real market has not yet begun now. There was the World Cup and everyone was waiting for the end. And this is another reason that people say that the resignation of Earl are due to the wrong market. Our strategy is clear: we want to keep all our best players, they are called Vidal or Pogba.Voglioamo not sell anyone and especially Vidal. Of course, in the case of a particularly high we would have the duty to think about it, but do not want to give samples. We want to be competitive in the Champions League and the only sales were players who were not part of our plans " . SUAREZ AND CHIELLINI - "I did not expect Italy to come out so soon, even though logically I'm happy for Juventus (smiles, ed), because they were able to do longer holidays and rest. But no one wished this. Suarez? In some ways I understand, I was a player like him, even if certain things did not approve. I do not know why he continues to bite, but despite this I was furious reaction Chiellini! He behaved like a child showing the bite to the referee. I talked with Marotta and I will speak with him directly. However, George has shown his intelligence in the following days talking and asking FIFA to shorten the disqualification Suarez. Than anything else is a great player: I'd take him right away to Juventus. In fact we were going to take him two years ago and I was in total agreement: is a champion and just " .]

I wasn't saying positions should be filled, just because. I was saying the most important thing should be that the holes in the team is plugged, before any clear-out should happen to the players that are already here and the team is left short. I just don't see the point in clearing out before players that are needed are bought especially as it's not like United need to sell before they buy. In regards to the midfield which is where the most investment is needed and where a few clearouts will be made, there aren't really any youngsters being impeded as none of them are good enough yet anyways$

He actually says, they will sell for the right price.
Yeah i think Nedved's commments are hugely promising. There is nothing stopping Nedved coming out and saying "we would never sell Vidal - end of story".

I hate that this thread goes without a tweet for 5 minutes, where is the true muppet in you? Still have 40 days of the window left.

Mats Hummels will become a new player of Manchester United if the negotiations that the Red Devils remain with Borussia Dortmund do not give a twist. The agreement between the two clubs is close to 20 million and closed by the announcement of the transfer was made official throughout this week.

I don't believe for one minute we will get him for £20m, I think it would take £30m at the very least.
