Good goal, but he just fell over & didnt have to move that much to be honest.

I thought Monaco signing him, was a massive draw-back to the days of their retirement home for good players back in the day policy.

After they sell Rodriguez & Falcao (possibly Moutinho too) this summer - i'd say the owners will try to find a buyer for the club.

There's feck all fans goin to games for starters & they cant generate the incomes to support buying big players. No-one's gonna go there now if they cant generate a football following. Their project has failed as far as i can see - unless they buy-off UEFA officials..

The French lads on here know everything when it comes to Monaco, so they're better qualified to talk about this than i am..
There was a lot more to it than that to be fair..Excellent control and technique..Great goal, that's what the fans pay their money for!

I knew he'd avoid signing a striker

Sanchez can play down the middle. It's possibly he chose Arsenal because he wanted to avoid being player on the wing at other clubs.

I'm pretty sure Wenger said Sanchez will be playing on the wing?

It wont be enough against the top four. Teams that challenge for the title win their home games and beat the teams in the top 6. Arsenal will fail on the second part by using Sanchez and Walcott as back ups for Giroud.

I knew he'd use the Sanchez signing as an excuse. Yes Sanchez and Walcott can play central, but it's not the same thing as a proper number 9. Wenger's made a mistake.

Who else do they have if Giroud gets Injured? Podolski ? Walcott ?

Surely he is bluffing there ?

They have Sanchez and Campbell to play up top too. I think Wenger will flirt with playing Ozil as a false-9 with inside forwards either side.

Where's that quote from anyway?

They need a proper striker like we need a midfield, If there was any chance at all they should be all over Cavani or Falcao. If they signed someone of that stature with Ozil and Sanchez on either side, that's one hell of an attack.

I don't believe it...............

Another season of Mr. Olivier "0 goals against Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd for two seasons running" Giroud up front?

My mind can't help but flash to his misses against Chelsea or Liverpool, Wenger himself doing a fine pirouette after a miss against the former.

Four transfer windows since RVP left and Giroud is still our first choice striker....

I pray that Wenger was just lying to the press. RVP, Aguero, Sturridge, Costa and Giroud. Pick the odd one out.

To make things worse, Giroud has played agasint the premier league top 7 (usual suspects + Everton, Spurs) 21 times and has scored a grand total of 3 goals.

Should have paid the £50m for Suarez last year instead of Ozil. Then brought in Fabregas on the cheap this year.

Oh. Well that's then.

Giroud can be a bit of a donkey but he's decent enough against most opposition with the right men surrounding him. Can you think of any available strikers they could have bought who'd be a huge step up?

Quality centre forwards aren't easy to come by so if Wenger can get them playing well under a less conventional system with Sanchez at the tip then I could definitely see his reasoning behind it. Giroud would make for a good alternative.

Why hone the talents of a young striker who is more than capable of being second choice for your squad when you can resign a 36 year old, eh?
Oh yeah only meant if Lukaku left but thought that was looking very likely now, Drogba won't play much but the fans love him so much he will just give the place a lift when needed. Will probably be better than Eto'o last season. Don't really get why they're not giving Lukaku a chance though, really weird.

Higuain was available before they signed Ozil. They should have paid the money for him.

He's a legend at Chelsea and would still be a decent squad player but at this point shouldn't they gave that opportunity to Lukaku? Seems crazy to sell/loan out Lukaku and bring Drogba back.

What i don't get is Woodward saying he has spoken to lots of a-list players and they want to come, well where are they then?
I didn't get that bit.

They could have been involved until the final stages of the world cup, then rest, holidays etc. big deals take time. We are after all only 2-3 weeks into the transfer window with 6 to go.

Its not like we have never signed a player after the 20th of July before. Yorke, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie were all signed in late august if i remember right.

There's much to be admired about the whole set up. Free travel to games etc., is just extraordinary & ticket prices are really good, but so too our prices compared to Chelsea or Arsenal also. We're way down the list of most ticket-prices & have been always.

The Germans are producing their own talent in abundance, so there's little need to spunk a shitload of income on foreign players all the time. They seem to sell pretty reasonably between themselves over there aswell - unlike English football. So they have extra funds & many of their clubs are fan-owned aswell more importantly..

There's just a better mentality when it comes to youth players in Germany. They're educated, brimming with talent & yet never think they've made it until they have.

They're part of the community & dont have the dosh some useless c*unt at 18yrs old has in the Prem before he's even kicked a ball for the 1st team.

The PFA are the one's to blame when it comes to the young English footballers that arent any use, so teams go foreign. They canvassed to have the; cleaning of boots & scrubbing dressing rooms etc. all abolished, because they deemed that bordering on slave labour.

But its back-fired big-time, because every youth player in England thinks they've made it & couldnt give a shite about staying behind after training & improving on their faults.

Most of them have never even cleaned their own arse ffs. Mum & Dad did it 1st, then their PE teacher & then their agents..

Sorry, rant over :)

A lot if players are on holiday and we have flown out to the US, it wouldn't surprise me if it's at least 2-3 weeks before we see something concrete now.

It's odd how it's all gone quiet for about a week now.
I don't believe our Journo's are getting spoon fed with news like they were under Moyes. Mark Ogden at this time last year was coming out with exclusive after exclusive. He seems to be very quite this year. I personally expect our transfer news to break from abroad first like it did with Herrera.

Yep if there's going to be info coming out it most likely be from the selling side and not United's.

I prefer it that way, and I imagine most do

I thought Ogden went on a holiday but it seems he hasn't. Whoever was doing the media briefing has stopped. It's the better way to work but for us fans it can get a bit boring, I don't believe reliable journalists like Ducker, he seems to be off re Vidal.

I don't why people are bringing Moyes up when the mention Ogden and stories being leaked, Ogden was also the first to break the news of Sir Alex retiring so if there is/was someone inside the club leaking info then they were hear before moyes ever arrived

Didn't Moyes know before the leak tho? And there signs of a flurry of bets on Moyes to succeed Fergie which is what encouraged Ogden to delve further?

Perhaps I've made all that up.

Football fans spend their lives predicting that managers will play false 9s. Almost no-one ever does. Wenger, as far as I can remember, never has. If he's not buying another striker it's because he rates Giroud very highly indeed, not because he's going to engage in some football hipsterism.

One of the reasons that few managers use a false 9 system is because the type of player who can actually make it effective (more effective than just using a conventional centre-forward) is very rare indeed. Despite the belief amongst the Football Manager playing hordes, being a good #10 with an eye for a pass does not make you a good false 9. To start with, you have to have a vicious burst of pace and the ability to take on and beat a man without blinking. The point of the role is that the CBs can't mark you because you pick up the ball quite deep. They can't afford to let you get a run at them either because of the aforementioned burst of pace and dribbling, so when you receive the ball they get drawn forward and inward to try and nullify the threat of that run, which opens up much wider channels to either side of them. Then you have to have the intelligence and eye for a pass to release the pacy wide forwards who are the real cutting edge (and ideally the regular benefactors) in the false 9 system.

It's that double threat - the fact that you can run at the CBs if they sit off or slide/flick it past them if they advance - that makes the system work. Ozil doesn't have that. If I'm a CB and Ozil is a false 9, dropping off me to receive the ball and turn, I just sit back, removing the danger of the ball slipped through for the wide forward and waiting for the DM to recover and back me up. Ozil doesn't have the balls to run straight at the CBs in that situation, or the explosiveness to make it a dangerous option. Nor does he have the shooting boots to take a step and aim to curl one into the top corner. As superb as his vision, passing and ball control are, on their own don't make him a candidate to play as a false 9, even if Wenger was likely to use that system. Players who actually work as false 9s - Messi or Muller, for example - are almost always the sort you would categorise as a forward, not an attacking midfielder. Players like Ozil or Cazorla just aren't aggressive enough for that job.

Moyes most definately must've known before the leak, he was dithering on signing a new contract at Everton for awhile.

It was Woody doing most of the feeding I reckon, but I'm sure Moyes was on hand to talk to the journalists too. Wasn't he very friendly with a few?

I think he dithers during sex mate so I'm not sure that tells us a great deal.
