Some of you need to chill. He basically said what tonnes of you were thinking, only difference is he said it.

He didn't even wish injury in the bloke and suddenly some of you are going over the top.

He's injured, the question is now "what are our options? "

I'm thinking why would you want one of our only reliable midfielder injured. Especially as he is one of our experienced players .

Terrible news on Carrick. I wonder if this might revise his planned 3-4 week 'review' of the squad before making any decisions in the market.

This 3-4 week review in IMO is worrying, was hoping we wouldn't make the same mistakes as last year...

I refuse to waste any more energy on muppetry with our transfers, if they happen then they happen.

Yeah, unfortunately our chance had past when he chose RM over us.

He's one of those youngsters you just know is going to be in the elite bracket of footballers in the years to come.

Pity he wasn't a United fan.

There is a difference between saying, 'I wish 'X' gets injured so that we buy 'Y' and thinking in hindsight that 'Now that 'X' is injured, this might help us into buying 'Y'. Relax and tweet.

I think he will quickly realise we need some decent midfielders and we'll get some in. We're also one step ahead of last year as we've bought Herrera.

Another point is that I find a 3-4 week window excessive, I know LVG knows what he's doing; but some of our midfielders are such shit that I'd hope one week looking at them would be enough.

Fellaini, Young and Anderson have no future at Old Trafford IMO.

I apologize, we really shouldn't be calling each other cnuts in here.
I must admit tho, I do kinda hate Young and Fellaini.

I want to hate Anderson but he just seems to retarded to hate.
Fair enough. This is a separate issue but it's one I've never really understood.

I understand hating players if they don't try, speak ill of the club or the fans or something, but not just because they're not good enough and/or earn lots of money. They work hard for the shirt, just for whatever reason they aren't good enough. Absolutely sickens me to see the likes of Fellaini and Young getting abused by their own spoilt fans on twitter. Not suggesting you're in that boat btw, just find the whole thing embarrassing for the rest of us. If they aren't good enough, they'll eventually go, why the hate?!

Glad we are pals now, onto Fellaini and Young... I would never boo them in public or anything but goddam they are just so mediocre!
Anderson as well, but at least he initially showed promise... Fellaini and Young were never MUFC level.

I think Young and Fellaini are cowards and they are basically here just to pick up a paycheck. Id rather teenagers from the reserves as they may actually try and fight for the game.

He isn't. No mention of a rebuilding job which discredits players at the club, just talks of evaluating his squad and seeing who can play well under him with his philosophy. It's all positive and any deals we're working on behind the scenes, like Herrera and Shaw, will go ahead as normal because they'll be players he's said he wants.

You guys are taking what he said too literally. Of course he's going to carefully monitor his own players' performances over the next few weeks. Think it'll be more to see who's going and who's staying, if anything. That and monitoring some of the younger players.

Do people really believe LVG hasn't got transfer targets or some kind of idea already what he wants? He wasn't likely to come out and say in his first press conference all his plans, targets etc.

Thing is with quality midfielders, when they enter into their mid-30s, they become like E-type Jags: elegant, understated and cool as hell. Carrick, while not as good as Xabi, Xavi or Pirlo, can still have a similar effect. We shouldn't be writing him off.

Or maybe he just got lucky? Just because someone calls one transfer doesn't mean they have a good contact.

I thought he called it before any other media knew we were even in for Van Persie?. Its not the kind of rumor you could guess really, who would ever think we would go for Arsenals best player like that.
I could be wrong though.

I'm pretty sure it was just before major media outlets caught wind of it.

Several months? It'll take him till christmis to be fully fit. This is such a huge blow , signing a midfielder is a must now.

So are people believing the manager regarding transfers? Or do you think he has a clear indication as to what he wants?

I understood it to be more about the weather.

I heard that he didn't like Madrid (the weather could have been a reason) but he was willing to make an effort because he was playing. But since he plays less.

I'm hoping it's one of Howard Nurse's 'Red Herrings' :)

Can't believe we will wait 4 weeks. I understand 2 weeks, but think there should be more urgency myself...

I tend to get a bit of stick for backing Young, but I really don't think he's that bad.

When he first arrived, he looked the part, scored some absolute belters and generally had an impressive debut season. Before he arrived, he had been PFA Young Player of the Year and twice got into the PFA Team of the Year. He was never a world beater, but most players/managers/fans regarded him as a more than decent player at the time. He was playing well regularly for England too. His second season was punctuated by injury and in the tournament in between he was poor for England, but looked better playing for United. Third season he had a shocker, but then so did everyone, and if we compare wide players he definitely wasn't the worst.

Putting all of that into perspective, I'd probably still let him go if we brought someone else in. He's 29 now and injury prone, so I can't see him getting back to his first season form. But the stick he gets on here is greater than any other player I've seen. He's caught between the category of good but not great like O'Shea or Park and so shit you love them like Bebe or Dong, so it's all pure hate, which I find weird. Reading the forum you'd assume he's a complete disaster of a player but he really isn't, and actually had a better debut season than most players. The diving probably played a huge part in that but as a bloke he always seemed decent and his work rate is better than most.

Both he and Fellaini seem to suffer from that same affliction. They aren't good enough, but that isn't really their fault. Managers felt they were up to it, payed big money and wages and they just haven't made the grade. I think coward is a bit harsh, they just don't fit in is all. If you or I played for United we'd be out of our depth, we'd probably give it our all but would stick out like sore thumbs, but does that make us cowards? Not for me. And Anderson, well that's just a massive shame. He was a hell of a player at 19 but that genuinely was his peak, which is an immense waste of talent.

Bit of both really, I think he has targets. But I do believe he will assess the squad first, I doubt we will see any signings in July.

Edit: with Carrick now crocked, I will be absolutely astounded if we don't try at least to bring in Vidal.

Yeah, any Tweets? This has turned into the Michael Carrick's Injury thread.

There is zero tweets worth posting, all Van Gaal quotes at the minute, which are pretty great, but nothing transfer related.
