Our (reoccuring) interest in Herrera came out of the blue. Any other deal with foreign players could/would follow similar pattern. What Ducker "thinks" and what Ducker "knows" are seperate issues at this point.

They still get briefed, or at least still have the odd leak. They were spot on with the Kroos stuffs and Shaw, missed the Herrera signing but this definitely seems like a genuine one. 'From what I was told last night' is fairly obviously a source.
Seems that the vast majority of this Vidal stuff is utter bollocks. We clearly have interest but the proper sources are all in agreement that we've not actually made a move for him.

Andy Mitten has been quiet enough too, but has said to expect alot of action this week now that LvG's at OT.
Also, Sport Witness are very reliable & sceptical about all these ITK's & seem hell-bent on calling them out. With them & Mitten, thats where i'd place my trust regarding United & this window..

I think he seems decent and pretty sensible but he's treated like some sort of oracle on here and I can't for the life of me think why. Pick any of the 'name' journalists you like, Ogden, Ducker, Jackson, and I suspect they have the same sort of success rate as Andy Mitten. He clearly has some contacts, but he also has a private, paid forum that he constantly has to generate content for.
With Nike we earned a proportion of profits. If I recall the base deal was for around £25-26m a year, whilst last year we earned £38m total (presumably around £12m via the profit share).
I imagine the £70m would either be a set figure and not include a profit share (with United preferring the money up front), or will have taken the profit share into account (e.g. £55m + c. £15m per year in profit-share).
Either way it's an incredible deal, but it is not more than double Real Madrid for example.

Yup no denying that. I think us willing to negotiate long deals counts in our favour as well. I dont think other clubs sign 10-15 year deals so we can demand more to start with.

It's plainly obvious that Ducker, Ogden et al enjoyed a regular stream of info in the Moyes era. Thankfully, that info seems to have acome to an abrupt halt now. Any of the info they give out this Summer is very much on the fence stuff, or personal opinion prefaced with "I believe" etc. They plainly had no knowledge of the Herrera deal until the rest of us found out about it.

These big deals mean feck all to me, because it only helps to pay the Glazers. I'm not on the anti-Glazer bandwagon either, but we're not exactly big hitters in the transfer market - even though we bring in more revenue than any club.
There's plenty of dosh left over after financing the interest payments too!
It allows you to get a better deal in the short term, but sometimes can come back to bite you towards the end of the deal.
An example is our Nike deal in 2002 that initially was an incredible deal that blew everyone else out of the water (similar to this Adidas one). Back then we would never have been able to get that amount had we not signed up for 13 years. However because of the boom in commercial revenues for the last 5-6 years £35-38m ended up being lower than we could have gotten if we were not tied into a long term contract, as evidenced by this contract being over 80% larger!
I suspect the club have gotten it right with Adidas. I think the market has probably reached saturation point in terms of what kit manufacturers will pay clubs (hence Nike stepping aside). Put it this way: I very much doubt in 10 years we'll be negotiating for another 75+% increase!
