We all moan about the prospect of signing Cavani and while I agree he is probably a bit too expensive for us, if next season RVP and Rooney pick up a knock and Danny "6 a year" Welbeck or Javier "missing after 10 minutes" Hernandez are leading the line I bet attitudes change quite quickly to the idea of adding another forward.

James "Wonderkid" Wilson to the rescue then.

This would be commercial suicide.

I think we could turn another player into a commercial powerhouse, Rooneys commercial value will also start to decrease if he is no longer Englands main man

Why would you even want to deny it?
No we don't want Reus we want Markovic instead.... some big elite club they are!
So their fans don't get their hopes up when they sign jay Rodriguez.

Neither Welbeck nor Hernandez are that bad and Mata and Kagawa are 10's. I am sure we'd cope.

  • I don't think Hernandez will be here next season.
  • Welbeck scored 10 goals in 10 games with 2 assists last season when he started as a CF.
  • Wilson will take over 4th striker spot and will be more than capable.

Welbeck didn't score 10 in 10 games when up front. All that happened is that people pretended in the other games when he didn't score he was tethered to the touch line and any game he scored happened to be the game everyone decided he played as striker for a change. If he scored, he wasn't a striker, if he did "look he played as a striker".

His role was pretty much consistent all year. People just seek to make it look better by pretending the 10 games he scored in were somehow him playing in a different position. It wasn't. He scored 10 goals last season playing pretty much the whole season in the same position. The fact the '10 in 10' stat is so suspiciously clean-cut and convenient in itself should probably set off alarms to it not being true in the first place

I think Van Gaal is going to absolutely love Welbeck. He's a unit with incredible pace, good technical skill and tactical discipline. It's just his end product that lets him down. I think Van Gaal will find a very specific role for him and he'll flourish.

I'd swap Rooney for Cavani in a heartbeat. We have too many no.10s as it is.

 Such hatred for Danny. Check for yourself:

Swansea (A)
Liverpool (A)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (A)
West Ham (H)
Hull (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)
Chelsea (A)
Norwich (H)

Those are the games he started as a CF last season. I hate biased bullshit posts like yours, made up negative bullshit. Face it, Danny is actually a decent player when played in his natural position.

I had a twitter exchange with the Journalist and he seems to get defensive about PSG

Hmm, that's pretty interesting. He might be a fan, so he's biased. That would make sense.

I'd imagine that Welbeck would thrive out wide in a system where wingers aren't burdened by Moyes' dinosaur tactics. He never used wide players at Everton ad it showed in his time at United.

As do I. Dannys not as bad as people make out, he's just not an effective winger. Play him upfront in the position he knows and loves and he's very effective. I'm interested to see what Van Gaal does with him.

There's a middle ground between striker and winger though. As a wide forward he's be much more likely to get game time which he probably won't get up front.

Good to see someone on here realising that Welbeck played in his natural position is a good player and well worth being a big part of the squad.

Seconded

He's impressed as a wide forward for England and in a van Gaal team, our chance creation and fluidity would be far greater than that of England. I really think he can convert to that role on a full-time basis and thrive.

We'll probably see much more rotation with Van Gaal in charge anyway, he won't be afraid to drop RvP if he's not performing and putting Rooney/Welbeck in his position if they're looking good in training. Depends on the formation we use in any case. I honestly have no idea how Van Gaal is going to make us play. Exciting!

He's a very good player and someone who could feasibly eradicate his weaknesses with the correct coaching and set-up. I've got great faith in him, which I honestly can't say for that many of our young(ish) players.
